Selling my Grandfathers Coin Collection

26 posts in this topic

Hello All :hi:

Names Jason, coming over here from the CGC forums. Bit of a background on whats going on here. My grandfather was an avid coin collector, got me into the idea of collecting but my uncle cemented my collecting love and got me into comics, hence my collecting bug is in comic books. In September my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer and sadly passed away in December. My grandfather passed away with a huge collection of coins, ingots, and medals, many from the Franklin Mint. In total there is over 800 ounces of silver and I think about 100 ounces of gold plus lots of rare coins and other cool things. I actually have not even finished inventorying the collection (It is currently taking up the entirety of my fathers office in the upstairs of his house.

Over the next few weeks I will be listing almost all of the collection (there are a few pieces my father would like to keep that are sentimental) exclusively here on the boards. I will start tonight with a few sets. All of the pieces will be listed in this thread.

Rules: Willing to entertain offers, just send me a PM. All prices are based on Paypal payment. Will give a 4% discount to anyone paying via USPS Money Order. All pieces will be wrapped in bubble wrap, placed in an appropriate box (usually a USPS 1092) and shipped fully insured. Shipping costs will vary by set and location being sent to, but usually will be a 50-50% split of actual cost on the more expensive sets and on the lower cost ones will be covered by me (the terms will state it clearly in each thread. Please post a :takeit: either in PM or in Thread. Willing to ship anywhere on earth, shipping method chosen by buyer.

Any questions just hit me up with a PM. All the best!

My understanding is that these come from a set of Carson City Morgan Silver Dollars which were sold off by the US mint in the 1970s under Richard Nixon (underneath where I have the certificates of authenticity there is a message about our history being important from Nixon.

Next item is the 1984 Olympic 3 coin set. The middle coin is a $10 gold coin (my understanding it is 90% gold 10% copper, with approximately .48 ounces of gold, thus at spot price that coin alone should be worth about $700. Asking $925 for the set shipped and insured.

Here is a 1971 Tunesian Coin set from the Franklin mint. A total of 10 medals each with their own back design. My understanding is there is about 6 ounces of silver in this set making the spot price on this set over $130 alone. But honestly these coins are too nice to melt down. Ive seen this set on ebay and other sites listed for $400. Looking for $300 for the set shipped and insured.

Sorry haven't updated in a while. Had been talking with someone about possibly selling the entire collection but nothing came of that. So continuing to update my listings. These are some heavy hitters now. First up is Franklin Mint Centennial Car Ingot Collection. The set consists of 100 ingots in Sterling Silver which amounts to about ~208 OZ. For more information on this set you can check it out here http://www.franklin-mint-silver.com/franklin-mint-centennial-car-ingots.htm

^The above is not my set, just a link to a similar set. My collection is still in the shipping packages. It comes with all 100 ingots, the display case, and the paperwork including booklet. I am looking for $10,000 plus actual cost of shipping and insurance (we will discuss shipping method before deal is consummated. Only willing to ship to the US and Canada. PM me with any questions or offers.
