Rare Mexican Coin: 10 Centavos 1896? Grade? Value?

2 posts in this topic

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for any advice.

I have here an 1896, 10 Centavos coin that has "Republica Mexicana" written on it. It also had the MoM 902,7 at the top, which I think indicates that it was made in Mexico City. Can anyone provide any insight as to the condition of the coin and whether it is of any value? Many thanks. 2 photographed and 2 scanned images are displayed below (you may click on the images to see larger images).

Looks to me like KM #403.7 1896 MoM, which seems to be a rare variety for the year--though nothing of monster value in that condition. I'd give it a rough grade of G-4 and take a wild guess at a value of $10. It's 90% Ag, so it has intrinsic melt value no matter how it grades out.
