I agree with this, and like the explanation because it explains the historical context between the phrasing. With this said, I think Kool-Aid comes in non-PCGS flavors too. I personally like both, and buy the coin and not the holder.

kool-aid with all the sugar and chemicals in it is actually bad for your health and many times more often than not can cause you more/major health problems and possibly leading to a pre-mature death

It can't be any worse for you than the Big Macs you can get by redeeming the McDonalds tokens our hosts started grading a little while back........yeah, I'd choose the Kool-Aid over one of those any day.

Actually, there's more to it than this.

Tom Wolfe wrote The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test in 1968, a full ten years before the Guyana tragedy.

Before Guyana, hipsters were using the expression "What kind of Kool-Aid are you drinking?" all the time.  It was a reference to being "turned on," and had connotations of asking were you "cool" with drugs or not.

In the 1960s, Happenings were events where Ken Kesey and his friends threw large parties that involved everyone drinking Kool-Aid laced with LSD-25 from small vats or punch bowls of the then "Electric" Kool-Aid, and they all became very like-minded in their thinking. These large scale "Acid Tests" were very communal events because of this like-mindedness. Everyone "bought-in," so to speak, to the idea of "oneness."

The Acid Tests took place in California around the San Francisco Bay area. PCGS is located in Newport Beach, CA, north of that area, but relatively nearby. (NGC is based in Sarasota, FL, btw)

All of this, when taken together, shows a pretty good fit for PCGS indoctrination of like-mindedness being described as "drinking the Kool-Aid."

Jim Jones probably thought of his Kool-Aid-cyanide idea from knowledge of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test book.

This Koolaid drinking seems to still be supported by at least one PCGS expert who is also a major dealer offering only PCGS coins. They say a client of theirs learned the hard way at earlier auctions and now buys only PCGS/CAC coins. I think this Koolaid is going to stunt their growth.
