I'm impressed with Jerseycat. Nice call. In simple terms, what are the features of a scratch vs bag mark for TPG to discern one from another in determining a grade vs details?

Chet

Chet, a bag mark occurs when coins come in contact with each other.

The typical result of this are either bag marks or reed marks or 'hits'.

Bag marks tend to look like scuffs, and hits are usually valley shaped indentations that are typically very short in length.

A scratch is discernable because of it's length, and it's depth relative to it's width.

Essentially, if the scratch moved metal, and was not the result of contact with other coins, the coin will likely get bagged.
