New bannings at another coin forum.

242 posts in this topic

I have only been ATS for 11 months and have found it most enjoyable. There are many members of the community that I can attribute that to but with the recent dismissals of RWB - Roger, CoinGuy1 - Mark, Broadstruck - Frank and Bushmaster8 - Greg I felt compelled to sign up over here. I think PCGS has lost some very knowledgeable contributors and it is terribly disappointing.

If you have only been there 11 months then you may not realize that this has just been the latest round of the best and brightest ATS.

I wonder---do the moderators ATS read these forums and would they ban someone for criticising PCGS on the NGC forums?

Seems likely. As mentioned some of the big boys at PCGS have said that they read these boards, the information about gmarguli's banning, and a year after my first banning I happened to mention over here that I had an Alt ATS and within four hours that Alt had been tracked down and banned. If the moderators aren't reading here, they have "spies" that are and are reporting back to them.

Welcome. As one who has not ventured across the street, look forward hearing your thoughts, viewing and discussing new collections. As for me, I collect a series which is not recognize ATS. GSA's in original holders. Guess that's why I didn't venture to the other side.

Welcome aboard.

Chet

Both forums are great for learning about coins and I suggest that you check out the forums ATS. Many of us belong to both forums and you'll see a few familiar faces there.

I think that the PCGS banning policies have reached to point to where they could be hurting the company. Many of the collectors who are getting boot are very serious about their hobby and spend considerable sums of money. Clearly banning someone for a possibly banal comment will cause hard feelings and could affect their purchasing patterns and decisions about grading services. Some of the people who never write anything that is “offensive” might not have the passion for the hobby and don’t spend as much.

Most any coin posting site should be honored to have a major author and researcher like Roger Burdette posting on their blog. Yet they have given him the boot for what seems to a trivial reason. Roger’s books and research have prompted many collectors to get into new areas or expand their interests in paths already taken. That will have a trickle down benefit for PCGS, and yet they don’t want him to post on their site. Their actions make no sense.

If things continue as they are PCGS might have to consider shutting down their site, or they may have to alter their policies. Either way their current course is not good for the company IMO

Thanks Chet. That is certainly a good reason to hang out here then. I am doing the Mercury Dime Complete Variety Set right now and it does not seem to exist over here. There is the complete variety set of Roosevelts though. I have already emailed customer service to see if they are willing to put up a Competitive Merc Dime Complete Variety Set. We will see.

Have any others had experience with trying to get sets added over here?

NGC should jump on this opportunity to assist our new brothers in setting up new venues to show their stuff! Woops. Can I get banned for that!

Hey Wooden Jeff, nice cakes! Looks like the Easter Bunny family arrived at your house.

Bill, I agree with a lot of what you said. I have not been banned ATS but with RWB getting banned...that was what did it for me. I was not going to miss out on his posts or the chance to interact with him and others. So I decided to come over here to play sometimes.

Well, I have nearly devout brand loyalty. I always have since I'm not really a proponent of change. I like things to be consistent.

However, I also know that brand loyalty is a choice based upon many factors. When those factors start changing, then I have a natural inclination to change with them.

This "puritan" cleansing thats occuring ATS is really starting to nag at me.

Off to Room 101 with you, RWB.

Roger, did you get bammed ATS as well? Maybe, I read that wrong?MJ

Can I pick out the kind of light bulb in Room 101?

Yep.Mr. O'Brien did not like the concept that some collectors have become "plastic slaves."

It doesn't matter much, since I don't have much free time to post messages.

This is an outrage! The most important living numismatic author bammed?!?!?

Guess I am going to have to spend more time over here, even though I do not like the forum operating system.

I suspect that Roger's banning was because he posted Don Willis' critical PM to Roger, not because of Roger's anti-slab comment.

If I were Don Willis, I would have been infuriated, also.

Copying a PM into a public forum is tacky, but should have merited a warning rather than a bamming.

I made my first post in the Commem thread. Just thought I'd drop in here and say hi to the ones I don't know or haven't met. I recognize quite a few names of current ats members (or current as of pre Saturday). I also recognize a lot of names that have old threads dragged up like Ksteelheaders Type B Quarter thread.

Anyway, look forward to learning as much as I can when I get back on here regularly in 40 days after my test.

the forum operating system here, IMO, is just as easy as ATS, it's just different.

I like seeing the number of views.

Personally, I think this one is easier to use, but both are in need of an upgrade IMO.

I think both are fine...just different. Like anything, it just takes getting used to.

My First Post Here -

I think PCGS has lost some very knowledgeable contributors and it is terribly disappointing. Some people will rub you the wrong way upon occasion but that's what makes people human. It really stinks that you can have several thousand posts within a community and then with just ONE not-so-big-hairy-deal you are gone.

Let's see if we can't get you to the second plateau. The truth of the matter is the powers that be over there are scared to death of these individuals they just censored the speech of for good over there. Now all you have to do is figure out why. ;)

I can't say that I care much about "why they were banned" as long as I do not see them cross my moral boundaries. All I care about is learning from them and they have demonstrated their willingness to share and teach. I'm just here to soak it all in. I have enjoyed the majority of their posts. :) As far as the actions taken by ATS, it is disappointing.

Now what the hell did "Broadstruck" or "Frank" do? They are the most knowledgable coin people out there.. Not good for PCGS..

Who's that? Did Eric N, and Dave, and Dave, and Dave, and TD, and Capt H, and RWJ, and Eric H, and JK, and ...a whole bunch of others just fall under a bus and get squished? That's the only way I'd be "...the most important living numismatic author..."

Ok....now I see the tongue placement... :)

One might think that means PCGS wants only unknowledgeable coin people left in their forums. Now, why in the world would they want that? ;)

Here's another reason I don't like this system. That's twice now my emoticon did not print.

Of course it couldn't have anything to do with operator error now, could it? :baiting:

There was a time that bammings ATS shocked me. I was quite shocked when I was bammed. I am shocked no more. Welcome to the club guys. Our membership is filled with some of the true class acts of the hobby, and many are now found in this friendly neighborhood.
