Is it me or did this top TPG err here?

I saw this coin on ebay, and I couldn't believe my eyes. What would you all grade this coin? I'll post the results later.

I'll say AU55 simply because the coin does not appear to have full mint luster, and slight rub above the ear.

Your AU 58 looks much better than this Morgan. Pay attention to the breast feathers.

Your graded 1901 coin is a weak 58 IMHO, the coin we are supposed to guess is between XF and AU50, (probably cleaned) depending on how much the grader hat to drink last night.

Actually, I believe the OP is amazed because the coin is graded MS. The pictures are rather poor but the Obverse does show some good definition. The Reverse does have rather weak Breast Feathers, however, the 1901P is known for having a soft/weak strike and that could account for the weak feather definition and that would be taken into account by the TPG.

 

I'm looking forward to the posted grade. I say it will be MS60-62 and I would not agree.

Looks AU55 to me but I bet ANACS called it MS60.
