Raw Barber Half - grade?

10 posts in this topic

The price for this key date really takes off as the grade improves. These are tough in all grades. I recently bought this one raw. I encourage the board member's best estimates of the grade. If you are not familiar with this series, the reverse of this coinage almost always wears really bad relative to the obverse, so keep that in mind.

Thanks for your opinions!

It is true that the older hub used for the reverse of Barber halves always made that side look about a grade lower in worn condition, but unfortunately, the merged rim on the reverse bars a full VG grade. In the old days, it would have been VG-7, but I would have to grade it G-6. I have no doubt it would bring a significant premium, though, since it is a very difficult issue in the set.
