QUESTION:

 

In 1862, it was estimated that what percent of bank notes in circulation had counterfeit counterparts? Of the counterfeit currency produced, what percent was estimated to be in circulation?

33-50% of currency in circulation was estimated to be counterfeit, which would put a dollar value of ~$66,000,000-100,000,000 of counterfeit currency in circulation. That would be between 33-50% of genuine circulating currency had a counterfeit counterpart.

As some of you noticed I prematurely posted Friday's Numismaquest question yesterday. Boy was I shocked last night at about 10PM when I had realized what I had done. ANSWER:

 

Part 1 - 80%, Part 2 - 50%
