1833 Half Cent

The color balance is off on this picture, but from what I can see the coin appears to be corroded. It has a crusty, dark look to it, especially on the reverse. The sharpness grade is EF, but the net grade would be in the VF-20 territory.

 

The business strike half cents from the 1830s until the end of the series in 1857 did not see very much circulation. Therefore it is not unusual to see coins like this with very little wear. In fact these coins are actually scarce in “no problem” VF and lower with respect to wear.

The reverse photo has me a bit concerned too.I'm not sure if it's the photo or the coin itself, but if it's the coin , I would have to concur with the environmental damage/corrosion diagnosis.
