Thanks, Larry.

I was chatting with a friend and he mentioned he had picked

up a 1912-S Dime in an OGH - in PCGS 64. He kiddingly said

I wouldn't like it, as it was darker than what I usually go for.

It's off to CAC and then it'll get sent to me.

I received the Stacks Bowers BALTIMORE catalog

and there were a bunch of error V Nickels that I loved.

Regrettably, all were reserved beyond my means and

none of my bids were any good.

I did however locate a beautiful upgrade for my 1900-O

Dime, as I have an XF 45 and now, I was successful in

winning a MS 61 in a PCGS OGH holder.

I actually won the coin for 10% below my Max Bid ( which was PCGS

Trends ) . That made me pretty happy !!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My second purchase was a very attractive 1894 Dime -
ANACS 58 - with rim toning... This is scheduled for my
Wayte Raymond album.
I won this Quarter a week or so ago - forgot to post it... its a minor upgrade
for the AU 53 I have.... this came with the CAC Bean...
Mitch,
Thank you, however, I couldn't take a picture of a Barn Door with a Macro Lens.
Most recently, a friend has been imaging my coins "for practice". I'll have him respond ... as I believe he posts over here.
I think he does a great job.... and look forward to many more images from him.
A couple of years ago, he was a student in my ANA Summer Seminar course,
The History of Charles Barber. I believe he only took the course because I had
promised to have my entire Barber Collection with me in Colorado Springs.
Here is a sampling of his work -
I
Those Lily Nichole Dimes are too rich for my blood, but I really love
looking at them ... Nice thing about my friend, he shares his coins &
I have a chance to examine them in person. My photographer will be
visiting me over the 4th of July. He'll be imaging a few of my coins and
some of my friend's NEWPS.
I was fortunate enough to snap up two more Dimes for my Nephew's
Collection....
1892-O - PCGS 53 - Edit: I posted the wrong REV with this 92-O.
1901-P - PCGS 62 CAC
Funny thing is, these were once raw and in my 1st
Dansco album. The collector who bought them must
have upgraded them. Let's see if I can add the images
using my iPad....( as feared ... I need to use Photobucket )
Same coin - just a professional imaged it { Todd Pollock }
I picked up another one of my old Dimes, another PCGS 53, of 1910-S.
This was in my Dansco for close to 16 years before I had my raw set
certified.
image.jpg3_zpseooifoit.jpg
I also won a minor upgrade for my Half Dollar set.... 1907-D....also an AU 53:
Images forthcoming ....
I was able to pick up a neat 1902-S Quarter ( PCGS 55 )
to use as trading material at a later date. I have a wonderful
AU 58 CAC in my set now. Just thought this was a good item to have.
I also picked up a duplicate 1889 V Nickel - I bought it for the color:
Spotted this a few weeks ago - and we were under negotiations
and I was offered the coin as fair a price as he could go.
We both loved this coin. { I really love his undergraded duplicate !! }
Love Barber Errors - as if you couldn't tell....
Saw this and threw in a very light bid ... happy to add it to the set:
This picture was terrible - maybe that's why I got
a great deal ??
I have this date (1907) in two other grades: 55 + CAC , & a choice 53.
I've been looking for a 58, but stumbled across a choice 60 with a CAC :
An upgrade doesn't usually come along for this date...
and, yes, I wish it were an "S"
Three years ago, I was the underbidder for this coin, since then,
I have found a few others of this date - but this one kept gnawing
at me...I knew it was out there some where !! Well... I found it, I bid
the exact same amount as I did last time - and as the market has slipped
just a bit - I finally won this beauty.
Looks like I have a few 1909-S's to sell off now...lol
Oh, and yes - I sure wish it was an "O" instead of an "S"
Edit: Due to this posting of having a duplicate 09-S, a fellow Forum Member - Kaiser14
PM'd me asking to buy my 09-S in 64. I just bought it last year and charged him
what Holsonbake had charged me. He is thrilled with it. Glad it found a good home.
I'll be six feet under before an AU 55ish of the 1909-O Quarter surfaces.
So, although I swore to myself I wouldn't do as so many have done, add
a coin that was considerably lower in grade to my sets' average.
Well, bite my tongue !! Try finding AU 53-58 of the Barber Quarters'
Semi Keys. You can't. I have the 1901-O, 1907-S, 1914-S, and now,
this 1909-O in grades less than AU 53-58.
These few Semi Keys are very tough to locate near MS - but each
is a circulated cameo in its own right.. One of these days when I finally
do locate these dates in my grades of choice - I should have no problems
finding a home for the circulated coins:
My newp: { Looks like a VG 10 - not a VG 8 as the sticker says}
A good friend mentioned that he does very well on Stacks Bowers weekly auctions.
As their web site has been the bane of manys existence over the last couple of
years, I as well as many others have shied away from their site.
Once you get the hang of using the site, it's not all that bad.... Maybe... ;)
Last night I put in a low ball bid for a Barber Quarter - I heard this morning
that I had won the lot:
My 1st cousin's son has an interest in coins that I have been
nurturing for the last 8 years or so. I have started him on a
Barber Dime collection and where he was born in 1998, I have
gotten him choice AU 53-58 examples of the 1898-P, O & S mints.
Plus, over the years, I send him a nice AU coin for birthdays, Christmas,
and other events ( straight A's on his report card ).
His birthday is coming up in 6 weeks and today, I stumbled across a
raw 1898 Quarter listed as AU/BU. it's been cleaned I am sure - but
not too harshly ( I am hoping !! )
I have added a 1998 Quarter as well cut from a Mint Set. I now need to
locate a Dual Holder.
