this thread has inspired me to start a Barber Half set--coins in the F12-VF30 range

here are the first 2...a 1915-D and a 1915-S ( I self slabbed them) full readable liberty but it's weak...

PS: it's not easy finding Barbers in this grade range..where are they all?

Good luck, and if I can be of any help, please feel free

I'll be happy to help direct you towards what you're looking for. I'm constantly searching for myself and usually find things others are looking for too.

Still on 1895 - I think there's something else I have not shown yet:

Here's one that was in one of our "miscellanceous" marked boxes I have been going through.

Good evening, guys.

Though I am not a Barber collector specifically (I do U.S. type and some foreign stuff) I thought I would post my Barber dime. I have a quarter and half too, but this is the neatest of the 3. I have it marked "overdate"...but maybe it's a repunched date, because something is definitely going on inside the lower loop of the 8. I see no specific mention of this variety in "Cherrypickers", but there appear to be no shortage of messed dates in 1908.

I am certainly not even close to an expert on Barber Dimes, in fact much the opposite. But I have seen reference to Overdates on "proof" 1908 Barber Dimes.

Hey, Rey!! Nice talkin' to you again.

Well, my 1908 dime is not a proof, but this overdate/repunched thing is really fascinating. But then again...I find almost anything in the hobby fascinating...except the slightly oozy greenish layer of PVC I found today on 2 Swiss silver 5 franc coins. The are common and only worth melt...but how DARE PVC be alive and well in my mystery box!

Your thoughts on regular and specimen Swiss silver pieces makes sense. I found a small bunch of nice 1/2, 1, 2 and 5 franc pieces today (no PVC on THESE puppies) all common dates but I doubt that there are any "specimens" in the lot.

Be well.

I had to scratch my head about this and then refer to my Breen Encyclopedia. You're right, Rey, Breen mentions [ # 3562 ] a 1908 Proof Dime Overdate. "Very Rare". Uncertain digit within 8, possibly a 6.

David Lawrence's reference book makes no mention of a Proof Overdate; however, he does list four varieties of RPD's. Breen mentions only one RPD, the Tripple 8, and classifies it as "Rare".

Thanks for the refresher course, as I had forgot about the RPD's. Looks like I'll be doing some reading in my Breen Encyclopedia this weekend.

My newest addition to my F12-VF20 Barber half set..............curse you Elbezar, you got me hooked... :cloud9:

PS: there is a "lump" at the bottom of the reverse rim..at first I thought it was a rim ding but upon further inspection it is just a small mound of extra silver...what is this called?
