An upgrade to my Quarter set - I have two of this date in AU 53...

Here's a really special coin, IMHO.

WDROB:

Stunning example of the rarer of the two varieties of 1892-O.

Thanks for sharing it. I enjoyed looking at it very much !

Thanks Mike.

I am aware that it is a Type 1 but do you see anything funny about that mintmark? Seems slanted more than others I have seen.

I'll recheck my examples...

Never really noticed any tilted MM's.

Here's my old 92-O Ty. 1

I recently added another Ty. 1 - but it hasn't been to the photographers yet.

I did not get the sellers images anyway....

Seems as though I hardly ever use my lap top anymore - let alone my desk top...the I-Pad has become an essential tool for day to day communications.

So... here is a little something to keep this thread alive with images...

Bought and sold this - the buyer had it on eBay for over two years at some

stupid price - wouldn't budge - finally I said he was sadly misinformed if

he thought this coin was worth more than 50% above what he paid for it.

I offered him a 20% profit - and he sold it back to me

Its really a very attractive coin... I have to admit...

Pretty coin. I can't imagine being as specialized in Barbers as you are, but it feels as though you must recognize old "friends" from your past collections from 100 yards away. :)

I sold this in 2011 - and repurchased it a few months ago

from another collector who was starting a Seated Liberty

Quarter collection.

Its in a PCGS 58 CAC Holder

Elb:

Great quarters!

And very tough dates

Thanks, Frank.

The last four I need will be almost impossible to locate.

The semi keys needed: 1901-O, 1907-S, 1909-O and 1914-S.

This set will not have the Big Three... I refuse to get anything

lower than a 53 ... and I can't afford that grade level. Simple.

A friend pointed this out to me the other day. I threw in a low ball offer and

it carried the entire auction. My duplicate which is an amazing coin and also

an AU 58 was twice the price of this one .... My friend said I stole it ... :cloud9:

The images are terrible, so I have to rely on the grade PCGS gave out was right on...

I threw in a bid for another Quarter - on Stack's Bowers Baltimore June auction. I have not gotten one of their catalogs in a few months... guess they think I'm not spending enough with them. lol.

I forgot all about this coin - its a duplicate - and I liked its overall look.

Well, it was an interesting couple of days at Summer FUN.

Although I was only there Thursday and Friday, it was more

than enough time as the show was cut down considerably

in size.

Although the show was smaller it was busier than last year's

Summer FUN show.

I picked up an old Half of mine - it's always nice for the kids

to come home after a three year absence. Will edit this with

an image, once off the iPad.

Also, I upgraded my 1898-O Dime from an AU 50 to an AU 58,

which makes me feel pretty good ( no images, sorry ).

Last but not least, another duplicate for my Quarter set, another

AU 58 of 1913-D. ( again, no images ).

had a friend visit this week - and we organized my sets - and he had his camera with him. He ended up imaging my set of V Nickels.

He still needs to burn a CD - but here are three individual iamges he sent me.

Mike, that 1889 is curious, looks more broadstrike than OC.

I assume you meant the AU example. I tend to agree with you.

NJF... thanks for sharing those neat Dimes !!

Mike - nice V nicks. Do you ever wonder at the placement of the mint marks on this design? It seems that it could be placed on the obverse behind Liberty's neck. The design is not very accommodating for mint mark placement frankly.

Catbert... I agree, the design [ in all of its simplicity ] is not

conducive to MM placement. I guess the "Dot" on the left

Reverse is as good as any place to have been used for this

purpose. Placing the MM on the OBV would have stood out

too much.

Every 1912-S I see, I see a completely different coin than

its predessors. Without looking up the reason in one of my

books, I'll try and remember what I was once able to absorb

easily...lol... love old age... I believe there was a new Hub

made for the newly issued Branch Mint coins.

I posted some newer images [ compliments of Mike Valente ]

and he is sending me a CD of all the Liberty Nickels he imaged

while visiting me last week. Thanks again, Mike.

Here's the last one he left me with before he went home:

I would have loved the REV split planchlet of this coin.

During much of the 1890s the Philadelphia Mint bought five cent blanks from Scoville. In 1895 and for a year or so later, there were considerable problems with poor blank quality.
