Why Foreign Coins Will Never Be As Popular As US Coins

16 posts in this topic

Look at this coin. A beautiful reverse. What better way to ruin the coin than put some 3,000 year old crone on the obverse.

Is that a picture of the queen or someone from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies? At least the US coins don't update the person as they age. This person looks like what George Washington would look like on the quarter if the mint updated his portrait to reflect his current age.

If they must put the freakish queen on every coin, at least lie and make it a good picture.

I'd have thought that the Canadians would have preferred french coins.

The updating of Elizabeth II's portrait is to be commended and something you Americans should consider. How about a current picture of Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Washington and Kennedy? Two reasons, first they are dead and would look ghastly and, second the U.S. NEVER mints coins with new designs.Until the United States produces something new you should all be quiet.

ET, you should take that middle finger out of where it is and look at the new coin designs that US coins have. A new quarter every 2 months, a new dollar, and a reworking of the nickel. Of course, why lets facts get in the way of your troll.

A correction to your 'facts' is in order concerning the 3 coins you've listed.

Half a new quarter every 2 months. The obverse is nothing new, unless a smaller bust of Washington is a ground-breaking new idea? The reverses are, for the most part, uninspired.

The Sacajawea hardly circulates outside of your major city transit stations. Has the U.S. Mint made any for circulation in 2002?

And the Lewis & Clark / Jefferson Nickel is yet to be realized. It's amazing the State of Virginia wields such power over your nation's money.

Come back when you can provide me evidence of something really new. I'll not hold my breath waiting. It could be a very long while.

You mentioned "updating". The obverse of the quarter was updated.

If you wish to talk about uninspired, then look at that crone on every piece of money you guys have.

The fact that the Sacagawea does not circulate has nothing to do with the fact that the coin is a brand new design.

We also redesigned our paper money a few years back.

Looking at two U.S. quarters, a 1997P and 2001P Vermont, the busts are identical except in size. It seems more a 'down-sizing' than an update. The best hope you have for a truely updated coin is the nickel with Jefferson sans wig on the obverse.

What good is a new dollar design if the coin doesn't circulate?

The new portrait of Elizabeth is a lesson in life if you look closely. Rulers age. What better place to show this than on the coins of their country?
