As has happened to me and happens, we focus so much on our work that we lose sight of important things, so we begin to mistakenly believe that they are not. Among of them the newbies-beginners. (Are annoying, a waste of time, non-belonging, a threat to my job). In the coin collecting profession this symptom is everywhere, derived from the money symptom. "The story says: When a person wants everything, the day comes when he loses everything." It is time to reflect, open the doors, make new rich people, share, there is cake for everyone. Review the basic principles. Monopolies have legal consequences. Only one is at the top, one follows it far below, with the fingers of one hand you can count the ones that follow the second. hundreds more in minorities (your data/a country of 350 million people). “As the saying goes: "If I can see it, so can others." NOT OFFENSE.

Elsewhere on another popular long-running thread is a coin member Sandon posted which, for lack of a better word, is Outstanding in every respect. It is an 1857-O Seated Half-Dollar, uncertified, but which he has self-described as "AU details, "cleaned." Now that non-Mint State has been alluded to, there is a natural inclination on the part of the viewer to ferret out the alleged deficits. Sandon's personal photography is superior. My eye is drawn to surface phenomena I don't know whether I would have looked for otherwise. But in doing so, I am guilty of the same inclinations every serious collector is afflicted with: minimization, maximization, or in the case of one viewer, not given to observing the niceties of cordial conversation: firm and final, outright condemnation. Herewith my bias on the subject, phrased as a rhetorical question: Can anyone state with complete certainty that NONE of the numismatic items recovered from the S.S. CENTRAL AMERICA Shipwreck were subjected to "cleaning," a/k/a "conservation?" No, because the pros were determined to outweigh the cons -- which evidently included those coins which were adjudged to be Mint State, some of which undoubtedly displayed original mint luster. What about high-tier coins generally? Proofs, Uncirculated coins -- and my favorites, the AU-59's the gods have proclaimed do not exist (with the requisite sepulchral awe!) I am prepared to say, absent exigent circumstances, no high-tier coins should be tampered with. But what about the majority of coins occupying the lower end of the scale? Is it not peculiar to single out coins that appear to be Poor, Fair or Good, with the harsh designation "cleaned"? Briefly, but directly, should there be (or is there) a threshold beyond which pejorative such labels ought to be dispensed with and the coin deemed to be exempt from that kind of scrutiny? Many members, I believe, are reluctant to submit coins they feel may be problematic for no other reason than having their worst fears officially substantiated. Your thoughts on this?

Hi everyone, im new here so I need some advice. I inherited a large coin collection years ago and have been slowly selling them. I have so many, Id like to get the good ones graded. I have a full book of lincoln cents from 1909 - 1950s. I have a 1909 VDB, 1901 S VDB, 1914D, and so on. which pennies from this book would be the most important in getting graded ? -

On the obverse of this 2021 "CROSSING THE DELAWARE " quarter, there appears to be a die gouge traveling down George Washington's eye 👁? If so I think I'll call it the crying George? It also seems to have some doubling on letters on the obverse and reverse? I'm new at collecting, but tell me what you guys think. Thanks 😊 P.S. As a bonus, I also found this 2022 "DROOLING MAYA ANGELOU" quarter.

My feeling is coins, irrespective of source, is a universal language and the description and superb photography is all a collector needs to place an order. I'm really here to ask for advise on how to handle a special coin we came across while going through my wife's grandfathers' collection. 1943-S Lincoln Wheat Cent that meets the following criteria: Copper that does not have a steel core. Weighs 3.10 grams. The "3" has the correct tail, pointing down towards the 7 o'clock position. Any help regarding the proper way to get this graded while maintaining a high level of security? Anyone have any thoughts about the recent authentication and certification of 61 Type 2 Rev. 1/4 oz. A.G.E. bullion coins "mistakenly" struck with West Point "W" mint-marked Obv. proof dies? The hits keep on coming, and they aren't being classified as errors. Merely unfinished. Nice!

I submit any of the following common coins presently in circulation, a cent, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar or dollar. Any claim I may have made regarding possible error or variety or subtler optical illusion is rejected outright and the inconsiderable amount of money I paid to have my essentially ordinary coin authenticated, graded, certified and encapsulated is returned to me at my expense. Question: what, for example, is my common cent, due to lack of knowledge and due diligence, now worth?

I have no Idea what I'm doing ,I've recently Gotten interested in silver . I have been saving change for a long time and I've decided to go through it and I've stumbled upon a few collectables we had laying around .While researching I've noticed ,So many people love coins and they have value over just spending it on things you need or want .I found this 1997 penny it jumped out at me due to its color on the front the back looks more dull but the front is very orangey red . I really don't know much about coins but I know this one is different and I've seen a few online now after googling it . Hello fellow collectors, my name is Charles and I'm a new collector and new member here. So, I retired from the US Navy in 2011. In 07-08, I deployed to the UAE. While there, I purchased this gold coin…packed it away, came home, threw all my junk in a trunk and left it in the garage. Fast forward this past Thanksgiving weekend, I’m cleaning out the garage, come across my old trunk and crack it open. I’m reminiscing about the good old days and I saw this jewelry case in the bottom of the trunk. I open it and low and behold, this coin is nestled inside. Now, when I say I’m a new collector, I mean new as in 3-weeks new. I started with the 2020-W 1oz Silver American Eagle Proof and have since acquired the 2001 thru 2019 Eagle Proofs in either PF70UC or PF70DCAM. Got some 1st Strikes and Early Releases as well. What I don’t have in the series is the 2009-W Eagle…can’t find it nowhere…’course, that’s another story… Anyhow I got this gold coin here and I’m thinking I want to get a holder for it, ‘cause I’ve handled it with my bare hands and got my finger oils all over it…don’t shoot me, I do know better…now… The scratches you see are from me trying to wipe off my finger oils with a soft cloth-like item, like a clean tee-shirt. I came to NGC’s site to price a holder for it and generally peruse the site. I saw that we can actually send in the coin and they’ll grade it and put one of their cool labels on it. So I joined up and will be getting the coin graded real soon. In the meantime, I’d like to get an idea of what a dealer would pay me for this if I sold it or what it might be graded at. I know this may be a tall order and I know you guys aren’t experts, but you’ve been in the game longer than I have and probably know things I don’t about coins. I’m just seeking a general idea about the grade and value of my coin. I just wanted to share the coin with you guys and am happy to be a member of the group. i bought 5. 2007 presidential dollars NGC ms 65 coins from a friend who needed cash . i got them cheap . but noticed none of the 5 has the ( in God We trust ) on the coins any where .NGC Graded them just wondering why they didnt catch that .at the time of grading and put it on the lable as error coin . any help would be appreciated thank you .
