  1. Very sad day. Dave was a huge asset to the team here at NGC, both professionally and personally. He will be greatly missed by those of us who had the privilege to work beside him for so many years.
  2. The question of the week: How do I put another user on ignore? The answer: Click on your username in the upper right corner of the screen to open a menu where you can select 'Ignored Users'. That page will allow you to add as many users as you like. This will not prevent you from seeing an ignored user's post if someone quotes them so you'll have to make an effort to ignore those if you truly do not want to communicate with that person.
  3. Good morning, The NGC Chat Board will be offline today at 10am ET for maintenance. We expect this maintenance period to last no more than one hour. We apologize for this inconvenience.

  5. Reminder: If a thread doesn't interest you, don't post in it. This trend of running off members who don't share your interests is not acceptable.
  6. Congratulations to you and all the winners! It is our pleasure to provide the platform and we are grateful that you choose to share your collections with us and the collecting community. Well done.
  7. You are most welcome! We are hoping things get back to normal at some point soon.
  8. So nice to have you back. Fingers crossed and prayers on the way
  9. Moderation has never gotten in the way of rigorous discussion here no matter what opinions are being expressed. Be respectful of one another and mind the guidelines you agreed to when you joined and there will be no need for moderation. You may want to argue about some of the guidelines but they have developed over time and are in place for reason. The bottom line is that your first amendment rights do not apply here. If there are topics in the guidelines that are off limits then they are off limits. Moderation understands that things are not black and white. So much so that we recognize those who continue to post in the gray and feign innocence when it is brought to their attention. To those I say - cut it out.
  10. ...is working now. It may be found in the upper right hand corner of each post. Please use that feature if you see a post that is inappropriate for these boards and a moderator will be notified.
  11. Sorry for the late response. I couldn't say without doing some serious digging. I don't have access to the old boards so I would have to search for historical metrics.
  12. A reminder seems to be in order. If you can't play nice, you can't play here. In the past we have spent time going through threads to remove the hostile posts that ruin a perfectly good topic. Going forward we will just delete entire threads. This doesn't mean that you'll be able to derail someone else's thread to get it shut down. This means that anything you've posted, good or bad will be removed. If you can't leave your personal hostilities at the door, you can't post here.
  13. Looks like that post was already in the newbie section but it was not pinned. It is pinned now and you should be able to edit it. Let me know if you have any trouble with that. The permission configurations are a little tricky in this software so I am not always sure if changes will have the desired outcome.
  14. You should now have unlimited likes and be able to see who liked your posts. Let me know if that is not working fo you all.
  15. Don't know but I will check and get back to you on this and the other questions asked in this thread.
  16. The previous forum software was no longer supported. We looked at a few different replacements and this software appeared to be a good replacement. Unfortunately there is a limit to how we can customize it and when we find things that are broken, we must report it to the vendor and hope they will include a solution in the next release.
  17. I bet that is something in the settings somewhere. I'll dig around and see if I can bump that up.
  18. I see this on posts where there are reactions: Is this what you mean? If you click on the numbers next to the icons you can see all who had that reaction. Are you not seeing that? If not, I'm wondering if it is something in the settings. Let me know if you don't see that.
  19. Suspension and bannings are almost always preceded by private warnings. Exceptions have been made in cases where a user has gone off the rails and is blatantly, knowingly violating the guidelines or if that user is a shill. In terms of politics, there are many topics that are related to politics but don't have to become an argument of one side versus another. Talking about a coin that pictures a president is fine. Talking about your opinions on that president is not. Talking about a coin that pictures a president because you want to stick it to another user but claim it is an innocent post is not fine - and yes we can tell the difference. It's definitely subjective and there is gray area. I would say that if someone wonders if their post is political, they should not post it. We did allow politics early in the history of the boards. Unfortunately this rule had to be put in place because these conversations would get ugly fast.
  20. It seems that some need a reminder of the guidelines accepted when creating an account here. Recently there has been an uptick in the number of unacceptable posts. As a result, there will be greater scrutiny of the material posted here. In summary, the following will not be tolerated: Political posts Mud Slinging Trolling Baiting Masking Inappropriate references (analogies, etc.) to significantly emotional topics such as Nazis, slavery, etc. Threads started explicitly to bash other members Hi-jacking of other people's threads in a way that stifles the originally intended topic Disrespect The disrespect exhibited in recent posts is overshadowing all the positive and valuable content being posted here and is creating a climate of hostility. It is particularly disappointing to see the way in which new members and collectors are being treated. Using words like ignorant and stupid is not the way to educate and welcome the well intentioned folks making an effort to embrace this community. It stops now.
  21. Please note that we will be performing server maintenance on Thursday, January 23, 2020. The NGC, PMG, CGC, ASG, CAG and Collectors Society websites and chatboards will be unavailable for approximately two hours beginning at 11 a.m. EST on Thursday, January 23, 2020. Our apologies for any inconvenience.
  22. We appreciate all the feedback we received about the new chat board format and will be taking steps to improve the user experience. The first step will be to simplify the chat board structure by consolidating some forums. The new structure will look like this: NGC Forums Newbie Coin Collecting Questions (including moved threads from "Hey Buddy..." and "Chat Boards Questions & Issues") What You Need to Know US, World, and Ancient Coins (including moved threads from "Numismatic General", "Coin Polls & FAQs", "Coin Conservation", "Numismatic Events") NGC Announcements Counterfeit Coins Money Marketplace NGC Registry NGC Registry Help and Instructions Ask NGC/NCS (including moved threads from "Chat Boards Questions & Issues" and "Moderation Review Request") NGC Journals (old format) General Discussion Water Cooler (only visible to logged in) Testing, 1... 2... 3... (only visible to logged in) Moderation Your Posts Removed by Moderators (only visible to logged in) Account Support Account Merge Requests (only visible to logged in) Completed Merge Requests (only visible to logged in)
