Rare 1896-0 Morgan Silver Dollar
Grant Gerlinger replied to Atlskrilla's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
I agree it looks to be about XF it certainly isn’t MS which would make it more valuable. Condition is a big thing when it comes to value. -
Silver 1960,62 and 1963 Washington quarters

In order to get money like that you would need top population grades. The coins you have aren’t close to what they need to be to achieve that level of value. -

1805 half cent grade
Grant Gerlinger replied to Jeremy468's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
I’m not an expert yet but I believe it’s a no stem small 5 variety. As for grade I would say between VG to F details. The ding on the reverse will drop the price down as details coins sell for less than a straight grade. -

We would need to see pictures of the coin close up and clear from both sides in order to determine if you have a genuine 1943 copper cent. Although the chances of you having the real deal are slim to none as it is an incredibly rare coin. I do believe you probably have a 1943 steel cent. They don’t command much of a premium like a 1944 steel cent but they are interesting IMO.

This is one of the few times I’ve actually seen doubling on the coin. Usually when people ask about doubling I can’t even begin to see what they are talking about. When I first joined a few months ago I had no idea what doubling was and these people kept asking about it I thought something was wrong with my eyesight. Since then I’ve learned most of those people don’t really have doubling on their coin.

I’m certainly not a veteran but most of my great grandfathers collection that have purchase dates and price tags are from the late 60s and very early 70s. It seems weird Double eagles with a price tag of $200 on them. 2.5 dollar Indian heads are only like $70 too. The most expensive coin with a price on it is an 1855 type II gold dollar he paid $345 for in I believe 1968. It’s a really nice coin that would probably grade MS.

It appears on PCGS there are only 2 certified 1922 Peace Dollar as a medium relief. PCGS has a description of the coin on their website that I found quite interesting.

Cleaned or Polished?
Grant Gerlinger replied to Grant Gerlinger's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
That unfortunate, I wish people were more honest about these sorts of things. I sell livestock and I always brutally honest with people about the quality. For me being honest and fair results in more business. I don’t want to get a bad reputation of being dishonest. -
Well, I think I made my first mistake purchase. Luckily I only paid $38 for this coin. I bought this coin a few days ago but I didn’t notice it at the time. The lighting wasn’t too good in there and the guy had other coins labeled as problem coins. This barber dime wasn’t labeled as cleaned like a couple were. Upon looking at the coin when I got home it looks to me like it has been polished or cleaned. I think I’m going to stick to slabbed coins for the time being.

Really nice coin! I want to get a CC someday. Right now I have some others I want to focus on first. It’s a special coin for sure!

Have this graded?
Grant Gerlinger replied to Kindlyspeaker's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
I don’t see anything worth grading on this one. If you like it though there is nothing wrong with keeping it in your collection. -
I picked up a nice Liberty Nickel for a good price. I really like the toning on it. Another one to add to my type list. I’ve been trying to add 1 coin every month.

1910 Lincoln Cent found in my spare change.
Grant Gerlinger replied to Lem E's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
That’s a pretty cool find. I haven’t found anything like that recently. My best find ever was when I was 10. I found a standing liberty quarter in my change. It was in pretty rough shape and a 1930 but still a cool find.
