I have to agree with you 100% on your above statement @EagleRJO. By no means was I trying to be ugly or rude in my comment which is simply NOT the way I roll. I have come to absolutely love teaching others (in the capacity that I'm able, that is) due in most part to the overwhelming support and guidance of those knowledgeable and professional numismatists here on this forum that I learned SO much from when I dove into the endless world of errors and varieties. For this, I am truly thankful for all of you that helped me out more than you know! I was only expressing my opinion and trying to get a point across that what some folks may think to be funny in their mind, may very well be taken the exact opposite way from a new collector's point of view. Subsequently, and unfortunately, this could easily turn away a newb's interest in this great hobby. However, with that said, I strongly urge those newcomers getting into coin collecting to at least make a concerted effort to put in the time for self study and research. There's more stuff out there these days on the web, that's totally free and extremely helpful, that will no doubt facilitate a good foundation in which to expand upon. For those of you that know me, my background, and current health situation, I'm fairly confident in saying that you know I'm a very thick skinned individual. However, for those that may not be of such a nature, I'd hate to see them turned away from collecting because of....well... you all get my point. Anyway...... I too love and appreciate some good humor (at the appropriate time) and I'll gladly dish it out just like I can take it. I guess all I'm saying here is that some comments should probably be "rethought" prior to posting. So..... in closing..... I surely didn't try to hit any sensitive nerves here, but if I did, oh well........I'm old enough now that I really don't care, nor do I give a D^*#, but if I did offend anyone...., you can go pack sand til your heart's content!!!

Two totally different things here Rykel. Plate blistering (or blistered plating... tomato/tomaaato) is basically a chemical reaction underneath the minuscule micron layer of copper platting that coats the zinc core of the Cent. A die crack is considered a die event which is completely different and has no relation to, nor would it create, blistered plating. I like your train of thought though in thinking "outside the box".

Good to be back chatting again and thanks for the congrats! I actually looked at some coins tonight for the first time in over 6 or 7 months. Hopefully I'll get back into it and come along with something to share. 👍

Alright everyone, thank you for the replies and your assessment of grade. It was graded as a MS 66 Red by NGC. To me, seeing the difference between a 66 and a 67, in my opinion, seems to be based on what kind of day the specific grader(s) are having (no offense). I've seen 66's that look like that should have easily been a 67 and vice versa. I suppose I should be satisfied with the MS 66 label, but I have entertained the thought of having it cross graded as the pics of my coin just don't do it justice versus viewing it in hand. Maybe I should just stick with what I have. Pretty tempting though after looking at a dozen or so 67's and 67+'s that to me should have probably been, in my humble opinion, 66's or even 65's. Who am I to say though.... I'm just a newb, but I sure would like to think this one would maybe have a shot at MS 67 because the "listed" price difference is HUGE. However, I also fully understand that the beauty of a coin lies in the eye of the buyer and not all 67's are equal as we all know. Thank you all for the great comments, opinions, and welcome backs!

@RWB Here is a copy and pasted photograde pic of a MS 67 from "ATS". It too exhibits the abrasion you mentioned. Just wanted to show this for comparison purposes to mine. Even 67+ grades have this same looking abrasion on the obverse. I wonder why this is the case on all of these 1948's??? I'd assume it would have had to of been a die issue. Thanks!

I will have to agree with you Roger on your observations. I've viewed this year LWC on the "ATS" site since they do have a good selection of "other images" to view. Oddly enough, it appears that what you described with the abrasion issues is actually quite common on ALL MS grades for this year Cent, even the higher MS's.

Hey there Coinbuf! Glad to be back here for at least short while. Life's had me bouncing back and forth lately and I haven't had much time to even look at or be involved with coins. I'm definitely looking forward to some down time if and when that ever happens so I can get back into this hobby that I love so dearly. Thanks for your expert opinion on the grade my friend, as well as your kind words. Gonna let it ride for awhile before I announce the grade just to see what some other folks think. You are obviously WELL in the ballpark as I knew you would be. 👍

HELLO everyone! I hope my NGC family and friends are doing well! It's been a minute since I've been on the boards here, but I'm still green side up and kicking, thankfully. I was going through some of my collection and entertained the thought of letting some of them go. I have had some life changes recently, both good and bad, and could use the extra $$$. Anyway..... I would really appreciate some input/opinions on this 1948 LWC and see what grade the pros here would slap on this one. I know, I know, I know..... grading from a pic is difficult at best sometimes, but these two pics are of the original auction photos. The only thing I have done to these photos is enhance the light (I made it a bit darker) so that the coin's color appears as close as possible to what it looks like in hand. Thank you all! Edit right off the bat....🙄: I see that the pics are rather large once I posted them. If you click on the picture(s) it will make them smaller and more clear (at least it does on my laptop). Sorry that they are the "size of pie plates" @Just Bob😂. I'll never forget you saying that to me YEARS ago about my pics. 👍

Yeah, I came down here to fish in a tournament. I worked relentlessly over the last few months to get my baby ready to go. However, an hour after I launched her, she decided to die on me leaving me stranded. Go figure……

Very nice! I'm just commenting here for clarification for the author of the post- @Lost in the Groove, the visible blurred/distorted areas are on the holder and not the coin. Hopefully I am correct in my assumption.

Thank you very much. However, just for the record, I was not the one that diagnosed the damage on the coin. That was done earlier by J P M and Greenstang on this thread. I just thought I'd try to put their words into a picture so that others could see what those two gentlemen had carefully observed. I was glad to help out though. Thanks. 👍
