Greenstang got a reaction from Mike Meenderink in 1959-D Penny - DD Close AM
The correct terminology is Doubled Die.

Greenstang got a reaction from EagleRJO in 1946-D DD Penny
The D mm on the OP’s coin is in the wrong position to be VP-002 RPM-006.

Greenstang got a reaction from EagleRJO in first of all thanks for looking steel 1943 penny
You can post as many as you want as long as they are each on a separate thread.
Not sure of your question or if you have one but what I see is a discoloured 1943 steel cent.
If you are not sure, the weight to two decimal points will tell you if it is steel or not.
Steel is 2.70g Copper is 3.11g

Greenstang got a reaction from Sandon in 2017 D Penny. Error? Beautiful orange
Discolouration is not an error, it is caused by whatever environment it was exposed to.
It would cost you in excess of $65.00 to have a coin worth 1 cent to be graded.

Greenstang got a reaction from J P M in 1988 P Penny separation?
And there wouldn’t be as it is not a variety. A variety is created on the die so every coin struck
from that die would be the same, not a one off as the OP’s coin.

That “halo” is the result of Progressive Indirect Die Transfer, also known as Ghosting.

Unless a coin has a value of at least $200.00, it is not worth the $65.00 or so to get graded.
Usuallly only high grade or rarer coins get graded unless you have a personal reason.
Out of curiosity, what is it with “newbies” that they want to get regular business strikes graded?
Please don’t say you saw it on YouTube that they are valuable.

Greenstang got a reaction from powermad5000 in How do I price a coin before it is graded?
Not sure how you obtained this Morgan, but because of the value, it is also heavily counterfeited.
As suggested by previous members, post a clear photo of both sides and we can start from there.

Greenstang got a reaction from Lem E in Jefferson nickel steps Rev of 38 or 40. What do you see?
Not much to go by but I would say that is a Variety 2.
I remember reading on another site that there were 25% of Variety 1 and 75% of Variety 2 minted in 1939
-
Greenstang got a reaction from powermad5000 in Newbie quality control question
The mint run their coin presses at high speed and quantity gives priority over quality.
Any errors, as they are usually a one off, would not probably be noticed until the coins
were bagged and send out for distribution.

Greenstang got a reaction from Newenglandrarities in 1776 D quarter
A kitchen scale is useless for weighing cins, you need an accurate weight to at least two decimal points to be of any help.
-
Greenstang got a reaction from Newenglandrarities in 1999 P Nickel. Testing, looks like it’s been cleaned, just wondering if there is any value besides 5 cents. Thanks
There are NO mint issues with ths quarter. What you see is just damage and MD.
Value 25 cents.
