    Adventures of Ike...My pocket piece.
Well last month I thought I would start a new journal. ADVENTURES OF IKE!!!!!!! Who is Ike? Well Ike is my 1971 Silver proof Ike dollar. Yes I busted him out of a brown box.....OH NO!!!! I carry it almost everywhere I go so I thought why not document his journey.
First adventure was camping/Deer/Dove hunting weekend. After our son crashed out for the night My wife, Ike and I sat around the fire drinking and laughing. Good times.
Then at the recent local Reptile show we picked up a red bearded dragon. I was .99 cents short and all I had left was Ike in my pocket......."Do I dare use Ike to finish paying for a Dragon?" heck no. Dealer was nice enough to cover the .99 cents so I wouldn't have to spend $4 getting money out of ATM.
Lastly Ike and I sat through our yearly TSA training program. Talk about a bore. We had fun until the sound of Ike wobbling on the table echoed throughout the room........ooops.
Sadly that was all the note worthy adventures this month. We had a lot more planned but son got sick twice and had to cover for co workers. Oh well.
What adventures has your pocket piece been on?
    Until next month.....

    More adventures of Ike!
Well had a few good adventures this month.
First we heading to the Chiricahua mountains in south east Arizona. We stayed in Rucker canyon. Very nice area with tons of wildlife. Saw deer, turkeys, snakes, lizards, skunks. The skunk was bad. It hit one of our friends dog. That was bad.
Then we took our yearly trip to Annies orchard in Wilcoxs Az. Mostly known for their apple pies but they also have another large area of produce you can pick yourself and during this time of year we picked pumpkins. Always a good time.
On the way out to Wilcoxs there is a road side attraction called "The Thing". I wont tell you what it is but if your in the area pay the $1 and go check it out. Once you leave the building and head towards the thing they have alot of random funny things until you get to the thing. Like a wood carving made of solid wood.... Also this German car used by Hitler although it cant be proved.
Lastly is Halloween night........Kid let me have the king size snickers bar....oh yeah.

Well most people want to lose weight or get rich or whatever for New Years. Me? Nope. I wanted to make a dent in my type set for 2015......Ok and get ripped but that's a different story. First two aren't for my type set but nice pickups none the less.

First was a 1957 100 Yen from Japan. I needed this one because I had sold my other one to a friend when I needed a few bucks so finally decided to buy another to complete my set once again. There is only three silver 100 yen and this is by far the best design with the Phoenix on it (ok looks like a Peacock but whatever).

Second was a 1oz Imperial Russian Seal bar from the local coin store. I had a $20 burning a hole in my pocket and it looked cool so I picked it up. Glad silver prices are down. Makes it easier to buy them here and there.
Third coin is a 1964-D Kennedy half dollar for my type set. Graded by NGC MS65. Good looking coin with some dark toning around the edge. Not sure why I haven't gotten into the Kennedy's more. It's a solid design but just hasn't peaked my interest much.
Fourth coin is a 2005-P Kennedy half dollar graded MS68 by NGC. Seventeen bucks for an MS68 half wasn't bad as far as I m concerned. Filled that hole in my type set and I don't see myself upgrading that anytime soon.
Fifth coin is a 1976-S Washington quarter graded PCGS PR69DCAM. I love bicentennial coins. I keep all of them I find from my change. No real value to those but I just like them from my childhood. This one cost a whole thirteen bucks.....not bad at all. Type set also.
Sixth coin is a 2006-D Monticello Nickel NGC MS68......ugh it's a nickel. It filled my type set hole. That's about it.
NOW WE ARE GETTING TO THE GOOD STUFF
Seventh coin is a 1938-D Buffalo nickel NGC MS66. All I can say is I love higher graded Buffalo nickels. This one just has amazing detail. Took me a while to finally stop staring at it. This filled the Buffalo spot and won't be going anywhere. After MS 66 the prices get to the mid to high $100's and I'm not that much in love with them to drop that kind of money. Day after I received this coin in the mail it was shipped out for photos. They came out awesome.
Eighth coin is a 1857 Seated Liberty quarter NGC VF25. This coin is just plain nice. Probably one of my favorite designs in coinage history. I ran into this one on Ebay as a BIN for $40 shipped. Had to jump on that. It is currently the background of my work computer and Iphone screen. Took me a few days to finally stash this away with the rest of my type set coins.
Has it been an awesome month for a BrokeCoinCollector......YES! Will they all be this grand? Probably not. Sadly at work we had layoffs and I lost half my team mates. Not sure what this will mean for the rest of the years coin collecting but I still have a job and they are making us work overtime still. Hopefully I keep my job and the overtime stays. Only time will tell.
Side note......I m officially on page 2 for the type sets.....WOOOOHOOOO page 1 here I come.

Life of a BrokeCoinCollector Volume 2
Well I would say it has been a good coining month since my last journal. Can't say good in the terms of what the coins are worth. Had some car troubles and bought some parts for my truck. Those cut into my coining but oh well it happens.
First off....Happy 30th B-Day to me!!!!! (Feb 17TH). Yep the big 30. Woke up that day and was a little scared to stand up....Will my whole body ache.....will my old bones give under the weight??? Nope.....Guess getting older isn't too bad...yet.
Well lets get this party started!
    Coin #1
1900 O/CC Top 100 Morgan Dollar. Now I m no Morgan dollar fan boy chasing every different type there ever was but I though this one was kinda cool. Als one I haven't heard of. Apparently they used old CC dies and reused them for O. Simple, cool and something different. Little hard to photo so had to use the microscope at work. Yes this one is cleaned but was $40 shipped so I figured at that price I would at least be able to break even if the need to sell ever arrived.
    Coin #2
2005-S Lewis and Clark nickel. I have had one of these on my watch list for prob a year now. Only cost $8.87 shipped but have just never bought it. Think mostly because its always there so not like its going anywhere. Finally just gave in and bought it. This coin I wanted for my custom set "Ships and Boats...Anything cool that floats". I love boats but sadly living in Az has ensured the dream of boating will never come true. Havent gotten a chance to add the details to this coin in the set but will get around it.
    Coin #3
1890 1/4 Real. Now this coin I bought a year or so ago because I loved the die cracks on it (IDK why but I love die cracks). Sadly when I needed money I knew my buddy liked it so I sold it him. Wanting to rebuy the coins I sold I contacted him about buying it back and lone behold after on minutes of hounding him he sold it back to me for what he paid. It even came back in a airtite holder...Sweet!
    Coin #4
1946 One Shilling. This one went into my type set of these. Also a coin I sold when I needed money. This isn't the coin I sold but these are easy to find for a good price so I got another in good shape.
    Coin #5
1946 Six Pence from Southern Rhodesia. Cant say I see many coins form Rhodesia when searching Ebay. Ran into this one for super cheap and I just loved the double axe design. Also has soem cool dark toning on it.
    Coin #6
1910 1 Mark. German coins are some of my Favorites. Mostly because I like Eagle designs and almost all of there coins have that on it. This is one I thought I had but after looking in my album realized I hadnt bought it yet. This coins was alos super cheap from the same seller as coin #5.
One thing to say about this seller....His coins where cheap but shipping was $2 per coin and he shipped them the slowest choice he could find. Took 11 days to get to me from 1 state away. $4 for 2 small coins and it takes 11 days...come on man. but hey even with that shipping the coins were still a good deal and wasnt like I needed them right away.
So like I said nothing expensive but still a great lot of coins that I enjoyed buying. Like always...checkout my sets if you have time and if you enjoy my journals feel free to follow me.

    Bringing Funny Back
Well a while ago I started putting a set of $1 and $2 bills together. Got a little side tracked with my US coin type set this year. Think its about time to add an older bill to my set. Here is the earliest silver cert I have gotten so far.
It is a 1928 A Funny Back. Not rare by any means but I still think its cool. Believe I got this for $10 ish at the Eagle eye coin shop here in Tucson. Not sure what the next one I will pick up is but have been want a $2 Battleship for a long time. Maybe I can find one of those for a decent price.
As for my US coin type set that I wanted to hit hard this year it has kinda stopped at this point. Kid started school and thats costing a nice chunk of change a month. Luckly it hasn't gone backwards. Well except for that 1900 O/CC Morgan that was part of it but I sold that for twice what I paid so that was a plus. Also it was never meant for my US type set just happened across it on ebay for a sweet deal so bought it.
