EleMint Man got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in "Just Having Fun" MS68 PCGS Slab!
At it's high point, PCGS valued it at $10,000. Eventually the value dropped below $6,000 as I recall and now is valued at $8,000. If it were cracked now and  sent to NGC,  what designation would be attributed to this illustrious Rossie? My guess would be MS67, Maybe MS67+.

If it isn't in a holder, it's fake. Super rare in any condition with only 6,000 minted approx.

    Coin Slabbing of the Future

In the future, there will be only one combined grading service, PNGCS. This conglomerate will operate as one entity for the entire hobby of Numismatics. As of 07/01/2021 no other agency will be allowed to start up or combine with the Mother Ship after this cut-off date.

In addition to the regular grading skills, all future Graders will have E.S.P. capabilities . While they are holding the coin, the grader will see flashes of who actually handled that particular coin in the past. These extra sense abilities will immediately inform the grader if a coin is a counterfeit, has been doctored, or altered in any way and by WHOM!

Ports installed into the graders cerebellum will allow downloads of images so further prosecution can be executed.

The cases will be made of clear diamond silica carbonate, fused together with .05 mega-watt lasers in a argon-xenon gas matrix vacuum. On the Moh’s harness scale, this new slab material is equivalent to a natural occurring corundum (ruby) impervious to the most of common means of entry.

Before sealing the coin into the slab, a programmable digital electronic microprocessor was imbedded in the carbonate, pre-set to a determined frequency. This microprocessor will emit a frequency signal of between 900-1600 megahertz, the same as most modern day cell phones, so in essence, the slab is constantly calling up the Grading Service and asking a verifier for authenticity.

If the verifier determines that the slab or the coin contained is not the original as issued, the verifier will send out a mobile Tracking Goon Squad to collect the errant coin slab.

This Squad has at it’s disposal, all the means necessary to retrieve the grading services proxy property. Think of men dressed in all black, head gear, batons, boots, guns, battering rams...ahh kinda like present day SWAT Teams going in after a known felon. "We have a no-knock warrant from PNGCS!" BOOM!

Profiteers who wish to emulate the grading services will have a tough time, as the next generation f-bay and other auction venues will install screening devices to prohibit falsified/generic coin slabs.

Raw coin dealers will proliferate in the alleys and back rooms of abandoned pool halls and other dark seedy places. These RawC’s as they will become to be known, will still grace the outlawed Dansco albums that so many collectors now hide from the authorities.

The future is great…or is it?

The reverse is pleasantly toned with  a mini rainbow. No dark areas in hand as there are in this photo.

Found this beauty recently and most people like it, some very much so. I almost had second thoughts after one person said "Looks like it's been hit by a blow torch". He also said "I don't get this toning thing some collectors have". After explaining to him why I like nicely toned coins he replied "I guess I'm just a purist" which I took for preferring "White" non toned coins..This conversation made me examine the reasons why I and others like toned coins and are willing to pay a premium for them. I came to the conclusion I simply like them, am happy with this one and will continue to get more!

Yes that one is a fake.
For these that is usually true, but it wasn't that long ago that one bought at a flea market for a dollar turned out the be real and was slabbed as a MS-64.

Others know toning better than me, but I think that "type" of toning may be due to the tabs and folds created by rolls.  So, my opinion is, it was likely from a roll and one of the two coins at the end of the roll.

Everyone does not like a Picasso, Chagall, Monet, Renoir.... need I go on? I really like the more subtle toning of your coin and it's just plain pretty to me. I also like white coins if they are of an age and type that makes it reasonable for them to have remained untoned. To each his own. Pretty dull hobby otherwise.

It looks it to me and obviously, it did to NGC and CAC. If you show a toned coin to enough people, someone will probably question it. And if you show a color-free one to enough people, someone will probably question it, too.😉

I usually just like some subtle rim toning on my coins,  but these 2 end roll toners I couldn't pass up. The one reminded me of the dark side of the moon and the blues in the other made me drool. Have a great weekend 👍

This past week I picked up three nice MS coins.
    1921 Morgan Silver Dollar MS62
    1911 $10 Gold Indian Eagle MS62 (I really think this one deserves a 63)
1927 $20 Gold Saint Gaudens Double Eagle MS63
All common dates but you gotta start somewhere, right?

After many years of hunting down this coin I was finally successful. It came back from NGC as AU55.
It's a German/Brunswick mining Thaler from 1685. It weighs 78g and is stamped on the reverse as a "3" Thaler coin.
