I understand your frustration at loosing 1st place. I have a set that I have gone back and forth with 2 other collectors taking turns at 1st place. It's a set that no one is really close to getting to 100%. The pieces that are lacking just don't come up for sale much and when they do the condition can be less than appealing. Fortunately my set has a significant lead for now but that could change in a heartbeat as you know. Here is the set if interested:

My last 2 submissions had more value than normal for me. Just so happens that at the same time there were several stories in the news regarding the increase in lost packages. I'm not one to usually let this bother me but I was able to drop off my coins to NGC at the Central States show. I plan on doing the same at the upcoming WFOM. I have to admit that I do prefer the face to face interaction over doing it all on line.
My last submission was a mix between world coins and tokens/medals. World coins came back in time. The tokens/medals missed the scheduled date by multiple weeks.

Sorry I missed you, Gary. I'm sure I was out walking the floor when you came by. By that point I was broke. My wife mentioned that you stopped by.

Do you know the overall thickness of this medal? I have several items in my collection in double thick holders. I believe the oversized slabs are available in 3 thicknesses.
-
Entertaining as always, Gary. I love these old Medallic Art Co. medals.

Were you able to view the lot in person? I know even the big auction houses have trouble catching a coins true appearance at times. At the last ANA/Heritage auction that I was able to attend in person the on-site lot viewing I did completely changed how I was bidding.
That said, there are definitely crazy prices in the areas that I collect and it is not often that I can view lots in person prior to bidding. I don't have deep pockets so I have to be picky what I bid on. Going into a big auction I may have 6 items that I am both interested in and feel like I have a chance of obtaining. Out of those, I may only bid seriously on 1 or 2 of them. Attached is my most recent auction win. I ended up paying 4 times the estimate but the estimate was rediculously low. This came from the CNG sale earlier in the week. They actually had videos posted of most of the items in the sale which is important to me. If interested it can be seen here. https://cngcoins.com/photos/CNG_Links/video/CNG_118/1277.html
Still not as good as an on site inspection but in my opinion, more informative than a photo.

That Charlemagne piece is a beauty.

Very nice. It's always nice to have permission to make a purchase.

It's always nice to fill an elusive hole. Congratulations.

I grew up sorting coins with my grand father. We were filling those Whitman folders of course. He absolutely refused to purchase any coins. Sometimes I wish I still collected like that...oh well.

I love all the George III pieces. There is more red than I would have expected. Both of them are nice pieces.

Fascinating entry. I can appreciate the time and effort you have put in to this. Any idea why the first coin pictured has a label stating ***NOT ENCAPSULATED*** when it clearly has been? Just curious because I am used to NGC simply returning a coin in a flip when they use this verbage. There have been times when I wish they would put something in a slab for protection.

That's beautiful. I enjoy owning coins in affordable grades when the high grade is out of reach. Sometimes the affordable one looks nicer anyway.

This is in an old ANACS holder graded MS62. It looks a lot better in hand.

Nice piece. I just picked up an mint state 1697 sixpence a couple of weeks ago. Mine is pretty heavily toned. Definitely like the non toned pieces better.
-
I really like the Norway notes. Thanks for sharing.
-
That's a beauty. I love indian cents. They were the first set that I completed.
-
An impressive collection. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and photos.

I consistently get reminded (by NGC) that grading mint state coins is not a skill that I possess. 64 looks doable to me. The strike is much better than some others that I have seen.

Very nice. I have one of these in MS64 that is one of my favorite pieces. Your proof is stunning.
I guess that's all over except the crying.

I have a custom set that I was trying to get updated before the cut off. Alas, they didn't post grades until a day late. Oh well, now it's time to (im)patiently wait
That said I still have several BiC that I know are mine but I am getting the first real competition in quite a while.
