To join the Collector Society, the minimum age is 14. By that time your kid has hormones kicked in and is a raging teenager. To get them to do something with you is a miracle, much less to sit down at the computer and/or discuss coins.

My question is this; Can we as a society get the age lowered to age 4? 6? or 8? If so, we have several years to get them into working with and/or performing with coin activities, and start to display some pride for coin collecting.

My 8 year old child will sit down every night and work on webkinz over the internet, but will not work on coins over the internet. If we as a society want to get the world of coins into the next generation, then we have to get them interested with tools they use. Computers and the internet are their tools, unlike our generation.

The society has to get some "kid orientated" elements built into their programing. There are three immediate things that come to mind. First, Webkinz gives challenges that are kid orientated, like games with prizes. We can perform some games. Have a couple of games that makes kids come back every night to get a weekly prize (like Webkinz). They can get kids into the "pocket change" out today, and start the "spark" at a tender age b4 those crazy Teenage years kick in. P.S. Even the Mint recognizes this and has a kid oriented section on their site.

Second, Badges are attached to any organization. The Army gives badges to privates. Webkinz gives badges to kids for various activities. The coin Society can give badges to members and kids. One easy badge can be years as a member. For kids start with a monthly badge. Give them incentives to continue a collection. For example, give the usual three placements, then give every kid who joins in a competition a badge, not just the first three. These badges move over with them into the adult arena.

Third give kids their own control panel with easier collections for the coins that they are collecting. In the Mercury Dime collection, there is a single year date, along with the regular year date collection. Give the kids some collections like that.

I am sure that others can come up with other suggestion, but we all have to get behind an idea b4 it can get attention. Please start and join a movement for our kids in our society. Without you spreading this to a movement, nothing will happen!
