What the am I doing? I can't seem to stop myself.

Well, it seems I can't stop myself when it comes to trying to have all my coins in NGC or PCGS holders. I have nothing against ANACS, IGC (or is it ICG), PCI, or any of the others. I really do buy the coin and not the holder, so it shouldn't matter what holder the coin is in, right. When I buy coins online I do perfer NGC or PCGS but if the seller has great pictures of the whole holder, both sides, I wiil buy any grading services slab. Now, having said that, why is it I want to have all of my collections in either NGC or PCGS slabs? Is it the money, NGC and PCGS selling higher than the others, I don't thinks so as I love the coin not the holder. When I buy a coin in any holder if I don't like it I either try to return it, if that fails, I put it up on eBay and sell it. Is it that I'm afraid other people won't buy it when it comes time to sell because it's in a off-brand holder? Couldn't care less if it didn't sell. I would still have a great coin, because I buy the coin not the holder, and someone sooner or later would buy it if they looked at the coin and not the holder. Sure they may pay less for it but chances are I paid less for it too. Do I want NGC and PCGS holders due to the fact that NGC and PCGS have the best slabs. No, if fact the ANACS slab is good looking along with the ICG, or is it IGC, slab. I have a couple of PCI slabs that have held up for over 10 years without a scratch on them and I look and handle my holders a lot. A few years ago I was at a coin show and a dealer had about 200 odd slabs in a bucket for $7.50 each. After talking him down to $6 each, if I purchased 10 or more, I picked out some of the offbrand slabs for a little trial I had been thinking about. I put one of each of the following slabs, NNC, PCGS, PCI (old and new), NGC, ANACS(small and new), and a ICG(or is it IGC?), in sealed Zip-Lock bag with very damp paper towel and then put them on our CD player, which always is warm on top, for a week. I was trying to see if any of the humid air found its way into the slab. I knew I may not see the results on the coin itself but my thinking was that the paper info slip would show it as warping or discoloring. The results, The NGC and NNC slabs info slips got wet and the newer ANACS(blue info slip not the newer yellow slab)showed some dew-like water in the info slip area but did not show on the slip itself. The other slabs were fine. The slabs did go back for another two weeks but nothing new happened.I did redo another NGC slab and it did the same thing. I feel I must add that none of the the coins in any of the slabs seemed to be affected. I do have a couple of these slabs left and after a coulpe of years now the coins still seem to be fine. Okay, I've know all along why I want all my slabs to be either NGC or PCGS. It's rather a dumb reasons but here it is. It pisses me off to no end to open my blue NGC slab holder boxes and see all the diff. holders mixed in amoung them selfs. To see a small ANACS slab, which doesn't fit well and always seems to tilt to one side or the other, sandwiched between two NGC slabs or how about a ICG, or once again is it IGC, stuck next to nice run of PCGS slabs. I have one of those early PCI slabs, about the size of a postcard, that doesn't even fit in the box. I have a nice set of ANACS slab that are next to each other in set of Irish coins. So what you say? They're all in a row and it starts out with one of the small slabs then the next one is one of the ones when ANACS went to a normal size holders with the blue label. The next one is one of the newest ones with the yellow label and a slightly diff. slab. You say cool? I say ugly. And so, to get to the end of this long rant, I have just sent in 10 ANACS slabs to be crossed over to NGC. I've got more but we'll see how these do. The last time I did this I wasn't so happy but it must be done. Here's what I sent in, thier all from Ireland,- 1948 1p ANACS-65 RD, 1949 6p ANACS-67 (min.return grade MS-66), 1960 6p ANACS-66, 1954 sh. ANACS-66(min. return grade MS-65), 1955 sh ANACS-66(min. return grade MS-65), 1935 fl ANACS-64, 1939 fl ANACS-64, 1941 fl ANACS-65(min. return grade MS-64),1930 1/2cr ANACS-63, and a 1934 1/2cr ANACS-66. I'm hoping they all come back in new skins but I'd settle for 8 of them I guess. I'll update this when they come back and let you know if I'm happy of sad.
