Six Conder tokens enjoy thier new NGC costumes

These six Conder tokens from the late 1700s in Great Britain had been waiting to get slabed for some time know. They'ed been waiting for some time due to the fact I wasn't sure how they'd grade. Not that there's anything wrong with..., I'll just list them and you'll see why.

1. 1797 Gloucester D&H-3 1 penny, after buying a nice collection of these Gloucester tokens I noticed that this token looked to have a coat of lacq. over both sides. I got out my acetone and gave it a couple seconds bath and saw that the solution turned a little yellow. Great the lacq. was coming off. I gave it another 30 sec. of the bath, got some clean acetone and when the new bath stayed clear I new the token was clear of lacq. Wrong, it seems there were two coats of diff. lacq. as I could not get the remaining lacq. off. With NGC now giving Detail grades I sent it in. Expecting a Unc. Details for being lacq. I was suprized with the MS-62 non-details grade. I am pretty sure this slipped by NGC as there is lacq.

2. 1797 Gloucester D&H-9 1 penny. In the same collection as above was a D&H-9 that looked great with no dings spots or anything except that it had hairlines across the reverse. Not just a few misplaced but over the whole rev., it had been wiped or cleaned. That token would need replaceing. The replacement was picked up at a auction by Numismatic Auctions LLC and discribed as Brnz. Proof. Ex-Farnell. There are a few dings and tics here and there but it came back as NGC-62. I was hoping for a 63.

3. 1801 Middlesex-Pidcock's D&H-457 1/2 penny. This tokens been on my display tray for years due to a good wiping across the reverse. I purchased this for a friend years ago and he sold it back to me 4 or 5 years later. The Pidcock series is so fun to look at that I just had to have one and the hairlines didn't matter. Seeing that the obverse is a nice R&B I sent this one in for the details grading just to help keep it red and brown. It's now wearing a new NGC coat as a MS-62 R&B. Thanks NGC for the non-details grade.

4. 1797 Warwick-Coventry D&H-269 1/2 penny. Okay, this one is new as I picked it up in a Stacks auction a couple of months ago. Listed as a gem I was thinking a PF-65 was fair with a chance at 66. OMG, what didn't I see that NGC did? Came back as PF-63. Oh well.

5. Worcester-Dudley D&H-4 1 penny. This one was lacq. and got the same treatment as the lacq. token above. This one had no second layer of lacq. and was better looking for having taken it off. Before the removing the lacq. it was a dull unnatural color. It's still a bit dull but the copper now looks natural. A bit spotty, were the lacq. had chip away over time had became brown spots. I had a feeling this was going to come back with the Details grade for being played with or dipped or whatever they use but it's now in a NGC custume as a MS-63 R&B.

6. 1792 Ireland, Dublin D&H-304. Now this one I knew was going to get the Details grade as it has an X scratched in the obv. field. There are only five known pieces of this token and they all have an X in the same place. See my Sig. Set for more info on this token. It's in a NGC Details-VG holder with Damaged as the discription.

That's it for my lastest submission. There were some bad tricks for me but also some nice treats. I'll take what I got and get ready for the next submission. It may be awhile as I only hve one raw coin and haven't decided about more ANACS cross-overs. Till next time, Merry Christmas and Best2u.
