the gold fractional buffalos are here.
read me!!!!
Earlier this year i wrote that the mint would be introducing fractional 24kt gold buffalo coins that will replace the gold american eagle series. well, on 7/22/08 the fractional buffalos went on sale. i think 2009 or 2010 will be the last year of the gold american eagle series. i say this based on the fact that the eagles have been minted for 23 years and historically 25 years is the average mintage for a gold coin series. also, the U.S. needs to mint 24kt gold coins to market a world trade coin that will be easily be bought and sold around the globe.
also, i have been informed by very good sources that this is the last year the platinum coins will be minted. i mentioned that in my last journal also. the platinum coins have become too expensive for the average collector but of more importance to the mint the votatile bullion market has made it difficult for the mint to price the coins.
look for the silver eagles to be phased out also.
