It was fun till the friends list was deleted and more coin sales adds were added. Now it is more of a purchase NGC graded site then a coin social site.

I could really add a bunch more things that I don't like any more about this registry.... but I'll keep quiet for now!

I basically gave up.....very sad.  There was a time when I was a member of NGC, PCGS, ANA, etc, etc.  I sold my complete sets of Proof coins from 1950-1964 and now just collect raw Lincoln Wheats.  I still don't understand why PCGS coins cannot be used in your sets.  Can someone come up on line and explain please?

Each "improvement" seemed to reduce the community aspect of the site.  Up until a couple of years ago, there were half a dozen new journal entries a day; now it seems more like half a dozen a year.  Journal entries identified the author on your home page; no more.  Money Marketplace used to be a collector-to-collector site; now a dealer inventory list and eBay referral site.  I'll probably drop my paid membership after this year.  

I used to use the old journals as reference material.  Many were exceptionally well researched and well written.  Most (but not all) of the old journals are still available on the chat boards, but very difficult to search.  I too miss the old journal system.

I was also very disappointed when NGC banned all PCGS coins from the World Coin registry sets, and again when they stopped accepting any new PCGS coins in the U.S. registry sets.  If NGC believes that the PCGS grading standards are lower than their own, why not just discount the point score for PCGS coins?  They could still allow them in registry sets, but at a reduce point value for the same grade.  That seems fair to me and I'd consider it a win/win for both NGC and collectors.

I still don't know if NGC has restored my archived journal posts as they said they would. There are a lot of posts that I wrote that not only others could read, but I myself referenced back to on occasion. Yes I do have the saved posts on my computer but I much rather reference my old posts via the web. That said as a somewhat prolific poster it is sad that this once vibrant site has come to a trickle. Lately, I've been posting my blogs on the ANA's site because there seems to be more interest there.

Sadly, I think this is correct. 

....and one more thing... God forbid that an existing pcgs coin is dropped out of your set with all this coin  reassessment point value that it seems to be changing everyday... you won't be able to add it again! Go figure!

With all of these comments it still seems to fall on deaf ears. By the way NGC, not all change is good!

I had a complete set of NewZealand Pennies in PCGS, and they eliminated the #1, in the world, set.

The couldn't agree more with comments above.  I used to eagerly await logging in my new purchases into the NGC website.  No longer.  In parallel I have watched the posts on the left side of the control board evaporate.  I recognize NGC doesn't want to run the website for free, they want a return on their assessment by forcing people to have All of their coins greeted by NGC prior to being permitted on the registry.  I read the commentary by Mark Saltsburg Provided data supporting grade inflation by PCGS.  Some of the cases stated appeared to be valid and some on further investigation he had an innocent explanation.  Regardless to offer a potential solution rather than just complaining: it seems to me that NGC could continue to  still continue to support the registry that included both NGC and PCGS by conducting 10% from PCGS Coins on the NGC registry.  Effectively, they are already do this.  On modern mint state gold commemorative's my numeric score is perfect (Each coin is MS 70).  I have a picture as well as a comment for each coin,  but because I have 5 PCGS graded coins out of 40 I am relegated to second place.

It may be that NGC has made a corporate decision to abandon the American market and focus Asia as demonstrated by the fact that the opening page of the registry is world coins rather than United States coins.  While on the issue of the control panel it still drives me crazy, when I work on a set and then hit the back arrow to go back to the control panel, rather than returning to the page that I was on, it goes to the first page which in my case starts with Argentina.

NGC's customer service vis-à-vis the registry is becoming a complete failure.

Some members were not in agreement. But I am sure by now they agree. NGC killed the society expelling PCGS coinage and changing the Journals. They had a successful platform for collectors and damaged it. And members posted about it tiresly and NGC did not hear. 

I have not posted a journal this year. I have been one of the more active posters for over 10 years however I no longer see the point. I also am kinda ticked that 10 years of journaling essentially has been wiped away and is inaccessible. I loved going back and re-reading where my collecting interests were at the time and how I have evolved and matured in my numismatic knowledge.

I have not purchased a slabbed coin this year--- my longest period since the State Quarters were new. They killed my certified world coin interests, they made the journals tough to navigate and pointless and now graded US coin registries are pointless as it is about the holders and not the quality coins. Salzberg and his greedy ilk have destroyed the Renaissance of the Numismatic hobby--- there won't be a next generation of collectors ( except for the Upper Crust)-- who will buy their precious plastic holders then?--probably 1.4 billion Chines/Asians who it seems are the focus of the company now.

One thing that they could have done is just link the journal entries to each person's bio just like before, not sure why it's so hard to do, database wise.

I agree with everyone. I have improved my collections as I always have since 1952. But according to CS my collections have deteriorated. I rarely add new purchases to my collection mgr unless they are NGC, even though a couple were finest known, in the wrong holder. As to WHY,   there can be only one answer, money. Someday CS will ask "what happened".  Must have been the Russians.

Hi Ali--I won my first journal award back in 2006, that is at least 9 years of missing journal history-- that is a lot of personal, numismatic chronicling that has been eliminated.

I remember logging in every Monday just to see which coin Jackson picked for "Coin of the Week". With beautiful pics and a full blown history and description of every special picked specimen.

Not only has NGC lost many members due to their decisions of the past ---- They have missed out on many submissions as well. I have boxes full of submission material just sitting here with no collectors buying or trading lately. It makes no sense sending the submissions in if the sets I have are not trading out. In 2014 and 2015 I sent in over $10K in submissions and there was a collector interest in NGC that produced a full return on costs. Today it is a less positive collector base to insure that submission costs will be made from sales and trades. I am sure that the dealers have slowed down their NGC submissions lately as well.

 I for one would like to see NGC make some positive ground breaking decisions that produce some great interests in coin collecting here in the club. I just don't see that happening lately.

I have a few colorized, graded coins, in my Ghana collection, and now, NGC refuses to grade those I send in. I sent a few more to make sets, and now it is impossible. "Colorized outside the mint" is the excuse. A silver Eagle with an S mint mark is the same. West Point simply changes the die. The (W) on the Eagle is also another ploy to sell coins. They all come from the same place.....P mint marks also. Who cares how, or where the coin is struck....it is still a coin, and should be collectible within set parameters. Now I have hundreds of dollars invested in coins that are only worth melt? SmartMint will destroy the hobby as we have known it in the past. I just sent one in that has 10 different rare metals. It will be the first graded.....or not. Checking my sets will tell.
