Their social media person posted on Instagram earlier today that submissions and grading are not currently affected but all of their scheduled visits to coming shows/events are cancelled.

If someone of the staff were to become sick and test positive then a shutdown of the TPG would be a possibility.  A greater threat to a closure at any of the TPG's is if mail service would become suspended, that would be a huge impact with nothing going out or in.  I have an order ready to send to CAC but I'll wait for a month or so and let all this calm down before I send it off, would hate to have my coins sitting in limbo if mail service were suspended. 

It's definitely having a major effect on the 2020  early coin show season, we've already lost Central States, Baltimore, and a plethora of local shows.  I expect the PAN show to be cancelled very soon and as we look ahead, summer seminar and WFM are not that far in the future and are probably on the chopping block unless we have a real slowing of the covid-19 cases in the next two months.

I hear ya on the mailing service disruptions.  I had my eBay store turned off last week for travel and had 3 buyers contact me about not receiving the items timely (from the end of February).  Normally I get 1 contact every other month and chalk it up to the cost of doing business with USPS - then give my brother heck about it since he's a mail carrier.  I left the store off for 4 days following my return from vacation and considered leaving it off for a bit longer but decided to turn it back on this evening just to test the waters again.  It's definitely something I'm keeping my eye on.

So PCGS just announced late today that the state of California has issues an emergency order declaring nonessential businesses that operate within the county to close, effective immediately, through March 31, 2020.  Thus they are shut down no grading until April 1, I wonder if this might drive a few more submissions NGC's way.

I am wondering when and not if NGC will be compelled to close.

I doubt it. I think most people want who they want in terms of grading. I think NGC folks might be more open to using PCGS than the other way around. In either case, I think most will just be holding on to their submissions until things are more settled.

NGC just finished grading a world gold submission for me this morning, very quickly (received by them last week and just the regular $30 per coin price)

I got back an ancient submission from them last week they finished the week before.  I did see PCGS just shut down.  I think if they keep their graders locked in the building and bring them food on trays they ought to be able to keep grading through this whole thing

I just sent out a coin I sold on Ebay Monday yesterday, and hope that makes it.  I rode my bike around the Chicago downtown loop yesterday Tuesday and it was pretty dead but not totally.

For collectors that is indeed very true, and dealers also may have a preference, however if this continues in Orange county for longer than the current expected delay dealers may have little choice but to send some coins NGC's way in order to keep inventory moving.  That of course assuming that NGC doesn't get shut down in the near future also.
