PCGS. Paying For 25 Cent Quarters With A W!!!!!!!

Hi everyone. Well I received my New Numismatic Magizine. July 2,2019.. They had an article in there that I was shocked with. If you find one of these quarters and it gets to P.C.G.S fist you get Paid!! How dumb is that. I find one the same day but because I live further away I lose out on Two thousand dollars. I saw prices of 667.00. In was so disgusted I stoped reading it. How low can a grading company go. They had corporate problems. Graders left. There very liberal with there grading. Just Look at the stats. They speak for themselves. I could never send a coin there. I want an honest grade. If I send a coin there and it comes back a MS 70 I'm willing to bet it's a MS 69 or lower at a good grader. Well  send that 70 to NGC and you will get an honest grade. This way the buyer knows what he's getting. I don't know if this was part of the rules. I would doubt it very much. I guess it's a gimmick to get you to send your quarters to PCGS instead of NGC. That's all it is. You get a high grade and get paid for finding a free quarter. Say that and tell me how dumb that sounds in this hobby. Well I stopped sending stuff to PCGS.a

long time ago and I am very glad I did. This is so low in this great hobby. It's a shame they should stop it now.. How long has it been going on? I think it's sad. A once respectable company like that. All over free quarters with a W. Good hunting.  Thanks Mike

And he keeps the coin and the money but how do you really know who's got there first.I think it lowers the hobby and the practice it's very poor. It makes us sound like we should be out there constantly to find coins in the hands of three hundred and fifty Americans. It makes you feel like a scavenger. That's my opinion. Thanks for your comment. Mike.

Well, Mike, I think there's an easy answer to this problem......don't buy into the hype.  Say screw PCGS and screw the W quarters and just pursue coins you actually want to pursue and that make you happy when you pursue them.  That's what I've done.  I actually did get a W mint War in the Pacific quarter in change myself.  You know what I did with it?  I gave it to my mother in law because she really liked the design of the coin and it made her happy.  I'm just pursuing my ancients and ignoring all of the modern US Mint hype and I'm very happy doing so.

That's a great answer. I found two my wife brought home after she had money left over from the bank for laundry. I sent one to a friend who has no chance of getting one. He's always been there for me. So that what I did. Your absolutely right. Screw them at P.C.G.S..

Exactly, Mike! Screw them!  PCGS is being ridiculous and the W quarters are just another numismatic fad pumped out by the US Mint.  It's just more gimmicky *spoon*.  There are much better things to chase and expend energy and resources on......like your Conder tokens.  Now, those are cool.  They're cool pieces of history that are also tried and true collectibles.  Can't go wrong there :)

Wow Mike, Your Wife is an example of all those people all over the country with zero knowledge of the W quarters going about their business and passing them through the economy, Lucky you are a collector and make sure you check all the change that circulates through your household.  With a little luck, you may put together a set through circulation.  Keeping Fingers Xed for You.

That's the funny part. She hates coins!! And who brings home the extra she didn't use but my wife. I check the coins. I have two my friend didn't want one maybe I will have my wife do his wash.!! Haha

PCGS paid out their "reward" for W's based on when the shipment to them was post marked. Mailing distance is irrelevant.

I'm surprised NGC mods allows such a rant against a competitor. PCGS forums would be quick to remove such a post.

Thanks for your comment. I appreciate all. You bring a good point. But I was saying paying out money to people who can find these is out of line in my opinion. It's like another gimmick. It seems interest has died out. This is there answer for us to look for them. I just feel in this hobby it's wrong that all. What next will they come up with. Again thank you very much. Mike

yep.  But while finding its appeal hard to understand personally, I have to figure, to its credit, that:

the chances are slightly higher someone finds out there are actual identifiable coins from the ancient and medieval world they can hold IF THEY DO get roped into a US mint / PCGS gimmick than if they DON'T.

A much easier-to-understand and deeply benevolent plan to grow interest in USA coins has been to spend lots of buffalo nickels and other worn old coins into circulation again.  I saw this on youtube, sponsored by some dealers and organizations lately.  That would do it for me if I was a kid and got a 1920s nickel in my change.

I could try to stuff some denarii into a Coke machine for the cause

Personally I stay away from you tube and it's self appointed experts in the field of everything. They just want to make a name for themselves. I did watch some and almost laughed myself to death. To me you tube is a gimmick. Where anyone can become a star overnight.

If the U.S. Mint doesn't do anything for Collectors....they are bad, etc...

When the Mint does something for Collectors....they are bad, etc...

The Dichotomy exists at all levels....

I am happy they tried and accomplished something this important...they could of done nothing....at all...right?

They turned it into a gimmick for sure. Both the mint and PCGS. It reminds me of when I was a kid and searching for that special toy in a cereal box. To NGC's credit, they allow this blog. My opinion.I could be wrong.

Paying ransom for a Do in makes me feel like someone collecting fans to r recycle. It's cheep and low to the members of this hobby. Collecting has dropped five to six % in the last year. And with there big programs this year I see another drop next year. Thanks.for your comment I appreciate them all. Mike

I just found one today, brings back the thrill of when I was four or five. Yes that is when I started collecting. probably a bit earlier. It is not the perfect coin, but it was fun looking for it. I believe the mint was really trying to do this, stimulate interest, nothing more. However, the grading companies first strike? Hmm there is an issue. I did talk to the mint about this and they told me that first struck is not always first sold.Or first in is not first out.
