The Type that Keep Growing

So, I had put together a little custom set of the 4 Lincoln variations from 2009 , the 2010 Union Shield Lincoln, and the Lincoln President Dollar.  But, as I was putting together the set, I decided it should be a Lincoln Type Set.  At first I thought, add the Lincoln Illinois Half Dollar, the Proof Lincoln Bicentennial Silver Dollar,  along with the Wheatie Proof and Memorial Proof (just ordered).  Now, I am thinking I also need a VDB, a Steel Cent and a Lincoln Memorial Zinc Cent (Since I already ordered a Lincoln Memorial Bronze Proof.   I know I have missed some variety, so if you can think of anything else to add to my type collection LET ME KNOW.

Ok, Do I have to add a Lincoln Shell Case Cent too?   Collecting is the ultimate obsession. I should be able to find a reasonably priced Lincoln Illinois at the National Money Show, gotta be NGC and Gotta be under 125.  Now I'm starting to ramble.  OUT, Mokie

I like this idea. I could see this set in a custom holder with nice embossed labels, hanging on a wall.

(I won't mention including the various types of currency picturing Lincoln, because, in addition to the different five dollar bills, you would have to find an early 1860's ten dollar greenback.)

Aim high - fail spectacularly (which is to say, maybe you don't hit it, but you build / do something awesome along the way). I think you can't let the prospect of 1 expensive or hard to find coin / note keep you from trying to build a set. The 1932 mint set my step-father and I built doesn't have and will probably never have a 1932 double eagle unless we win the lottery one day. When I started my Netherlands 10G set I knew there was a very good chance I might never be able to get an 1887 or 1888. The set now has both.  I may never own / find an 1879/1877 overdate for that set, but the set is still pretty great at this point IMO. I feel like the idea of not letting the "key date" stop you is especially important when you consider that almost every coin series seems to have at least one or two coins that are very hard (if not almost impossible) to get and which are very expensive - the Lincoln cents have the 1909 S VDB, the Washington Quarter has the 1932, 1932-S, and 1932-D, the Mercury Dimes have the 1916, the Barber Quarters (if I remember right, I've never collected these) have the 1893, the Double Eagles have the 1932 and 1933... the list goes on.

Just bob, Thank You for not mentioning currency.   I did think about building a corresponding set on the PMG side of the house but then I thought, I know nothing about currency and my brain suffers from Kelly Bundy syndrome.    LOL

Hey Revenant, Thanks for the encouragement, when I was on the NGC site a few years ago, I got a little too caught up in the competitive thing, I am going to take it very easy this time around and stick to my core purpose, which is to just have a place to log my slabs so I can print an inventory every once in a while.  Mokie

Mokie --- How about a Lincoln reverse proof added to your type collection?

Just thinking Lincoln Type set and the mint now producing 99.9% silver coinage. It would be cool and probably a great seller if the mint pumped out the first ever Silver Lincoln in the near future.

If the Canadians do it, we are sure to follow, and they have.  LOL

Another possible and available Lincoln coin are several Civil War tokens with Lincoln’s portrait. Although not official, there are several on EBay now NGC certified with Lincoln’s portrait. Also cool that these were made during Lincoln’s lifetime as well...

CW, Maybe just one of the tokens to illustrate the general concept of the civil war tokens.  That is a good idea.  Thanks  M
