Breast Cancer Awareness

Hello Everybody, I just received the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemoratives a few days ago and I thought I would share. The Mint did a nice job choosing the designs for this coin...which they don't seem to get right sometimes. The WWI comm is a good example. NGC did a good job with the label and the pink holder is a great touch when looking at the coin in hand. I just hope enough coins are sold so some money gets back to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Take Care Everybody J

San Francisco Giants and the Baseball Hall of Fame Coins

My new custom set! Hi everybody, I wanted to share my new custom set I put together. It is the Baseball Hall of Fame coins featuring both the team logo label and the 2014 World Series Champions label for the San Francisco Giants. Both labels are very hard to find on the open market since NGC didn't accept direct submissions for the labels back in 2014. Then, this summer NGC announced that they will except submissions for the team logos, so I sent in the coins I have to get re-labeled with

Purchases from fellow Society member

Eagles-R-it help add to my collection Hi everyone, Recently I made a purchase of two coins from Eagles-R-it to add to my modern commemorative collection. It was a great experience and a very smooth transaction and I am very happy to add the 1991 USO and Korean War proofs to my collection. Thanks again Eagles-R-it! now on the look out for 2014 World Series Champs label. Towards the end of last year when NGC announced that the HOF coins would get labels with MLB team logos, I was quite happy to say the least. I finally got around to getting one with my SF Giants label the other day and I am very happy to have it in hand! Now I am on the hunt for the Giants World Series Champ label that NGC released after the WS. I found some with the SAEs but the HOF coin is the only way to go for me. When I find one I

March of Dimes

New coins for my collection. Hello everybody, Just like to share a couple coins that I recently added to my modern commemorative collection. They are the MS and Proof March of Dimes Silver $1. The Mint did a nice job in choosing the design for these coins. I especially like the reverse depicting the infant in hand. Nice job! I also would like to thank NGC for doing a good job with the specialty label available for the 3 coin set. Enjoy those coins Jeffrey To see old comments for

U.S. Marshals Service

Most recent addition Here is my most recent acquisition...2015 U.S. Marshals Service Commemorative MS Dollar. The Mint did a fine job on selecting the designs for this set. Lately, it seemed like they were just recycling the same designs for new coins. This puts me 47% complete...slowly getting to the half way make for the set. Now, if they can only do a commemorative for Firefighters! Jeffrey To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Baseball HOF coin and the SF Giants!

A great series to watch. Hi everybody,               I had a great time watching the World Series this year. Both KC and SF were pretty much evenly matched but I think one of the reasons it tipped the series to my Giants was how the DH effects the strategy in the National League compared to the American League.               Anyways, I have patiently waited to purchase a graded proof version of the HOF silver $1 and it paid off quite well. I scored my coin for $69 off of EBay

added a couple more coins to my Modern Comm Set Hi everybody,       It's been almost a year since my last post and last purchase...but I have visited regularly to keep up on the conversations and posts.       I recently got back into the game and made a couple purchases to add to my modern commemorative collection. The first is the MS Baseball Hall of Fame. I am a big baseball fan I think the Mint did a great job with this coin. Both the obverse and reverse along with the curved feat

Currency of the Apocalypse!

and a MERRY CHRISTMAS to everybody. Hello fellow collectors, Last night we celebrated Christmas at our house. It was done a little early because myself and my youngest daughter have to work on the 25th and my oldest is going to San Francisco for a few days with her boyfriend. They are attending a Shark's hockey game and my daughter wants to visit with a bunch of her cousins. We did get to open all our gifts and one from my youngest combined my hobby of coin collecting with my love of horro

Really....is this how a coin should be shipped!!

...in a business envelope!! Hi everybody, Just wanted to rant a bit on how I received a coin I purchased the other day. It was shipped in a business size envelope with a tape used to make the envelope a bit more secure. Really... are people this dumb? The slabbed coin just slid right out of the envelope when the mail carrier handed it to me after I signed for it. Thank you PO for having honest employees. I could of been handed an empty envelope instead. At least the slab was bubble wrappe

Slowly Growning Commemorative Set!

4 more coins to my collection Hello fellow collectors, I would to show my latest addition to my Modern Commemorative Set: 1987 Constitution MS70 1989 Congress MS69 1984 Olympics MS69 1984 Olympics PF69UC They are quite the nice group of coins and they have helped push my total close to the 50% completion mark for the set. The curious thing about the Constitution is how the denomination is showed on the reverse....Dollar 1...strange! I also took the photo of the Constitution w

New additions to my Modern Commemoratives

...and slowly getting to that 50% completed mark Hello fellow collectors, Just a quick little note on my latest addition to my collection...the 4 1983 Olympic Commemorative Silver Dollars. These we the first of the $1 comms to be issued since 1900. And that being said, the Mint could of done a little better job. Even though the Olympics is a worthy theme, the design that was chosen for the obverse leaves a bit to be desired. I do like the bald eagle on the reverse though! On the obverse,

Follow up to an issue with a slab....NGC's OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Thank you very much to Max Spiegel and NGC. A few days ago a posted a journal entry here about a West Point SAE in a retro-black holder that had all kinds problems inside the holder. I contacted Max Spiegel at NGC and he asked to me to send in the coins so he can have a look at them and see what the problem was. The coins were delivered on Saturday and today...Monday...I received a call from Max. He said that there was a problem with the holder for the reverse proof and that both coins will

West Point SAE Set....Very Disappointed with NGC!!

Slabs are horrible! Hi, I just received my West Point Eagle Set from MCM and I have to say that the encapsulation of these two coins is absolutely horrible and sub-standard from what I have come to expect from NGC. From the photo I have attached, you can see all the smudge marks that are located on the INSIDE of the holder on the clear plastic. What the photo does not show is the smudge marks on the retro black. The whole mess was quite visible as soon it was in my hand and stands out qui

1993 Jefferson Commemorative Silver Dollar

Father's Day Gift Greetings everybody, Here is my latest edition to my modern commemorative collection....a 1993 Jefferson MS70. The reverse of this coin is what really makes it stand out. The image of Monticello is very impressive and it came out wonderfully on the coin. The pic I took can not relay the quality of work on the reverse of this coin. This is one that needs to be in hand to truly appreciate! My wife...for Father's Day...told to go pick out a coin to add to my collection and e

5 Star Generals Commemorative Silver Dollar

Nice job by the U.S Mint! I received the 5 Star Generals proof coin today...the MS came last week...and I have to say that it is a fine looking coin. I was not to impressed with the MS version and was hoping the proof would have more eye appeal and I was not disappointed. It looks great in hand! The coin is also a nice way of giving tribute to these 2 men for their service to this country. Take care everybody Jeffrey To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New commen

and a couple coins. Hi everyone, I just received, within a few days of each other, the 2013 Girl Scouts commemorative dollars. These are very nice coins with well designed images. The Mint did a nice job with the $1 logo on the reverse instead of actually spelling it out. That was a nice touch. But the reason I like these coins so much is that the reverse gets me thinking of those wonderful Girl Scout cookies! I usually buy about a dozen of them and toss em into the freezer to enjoy throu

I Bought the Slab Instead of the Coin!

I have done this a few times before! Hi everyone, Once again I have purchased a coin based on the slab. This one was a 1998 Robert Kennedy Commemorative $1 graded MS-70. Because of the great price for the coin, I went with a coin in somewhat abused holder. It has many obvious scratches on the front and back and a small chip in the obverse near the label. I do have a few more coins to send back to NGC for re-holdering along with this one and with the costs it still comes out as a good deal.

Silver Eagle Purchase

A VERY LUCKY PURCHASE! Since my 2006 20th Anniversay ASE set could not get the special designation...except the reverse proof...I have kept an eye out for the other two coins to complete the set. A couple weeks ago I got one coin, NGC graded MS-69, for $80. A couple days ago I saw an auction on Ebay for the last coin I needed to finish the collection. It was NGC graded PF-70. The bid was at $90 when I put my bid in with a max of $130. The value according to NumisMedia is $250. I really didn'

Registry Correction

Problem fixed with the Ben Franklin "Scientist" I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a error in the registry with the score for the B.F. "Scientist". The PF70 CA and PF70 UC points were reversed. I sent an e-mail out to NGC and they fixed the error today. It might give a some of you a few extra points in your registry. Happy Collecting and Good Luck with grading! Jeffrey

2nd Submission on the way Home!

Expensive Month! I checked on my latest submission to NGC and they are on the way back home. The 1999 Susan B. Proof and 1999 Yellowstone Comm both came back as PF-69 UC. I also submitted 20th Anniversary S.E. set. I knew the reverse proof would be the only one getting the special designation...it came back PF-69. The 2 other S.E. in the set came back as MS-70 and PF-70 UC. I am very happy with the outcome. Since I couldn't get my S.E. anniversary set designated, I went out and looked for

Starting Up My Registry

First Coins Entered! I just started my 2 registries today....Modern Commemorative Proofs and Silver Eagle Proofs. I have quite alot of coins for both but still working on getting the ones that I am missing... the early eagles and the comms from the eighties. Its a slow process because of the price of getting them and then getting everything I already have graded. I can only do a few at a time. The coins I listed today were the 2006 Ben Franklin coins...both PF-70, 2001 Buffalo...PF-69, and

First Time Submission

Very Happy! I have been collecting coins since 1988 when I bought a proof set to celebrate the birth of my first daughter. My collection has been growing ever since with silver eagles, modern commemoratives, and annual proof sets. I have never really thought about having them graded or even thinking of the value of the coins in my collection until a couple months ago. I made my puchases not because of their value but because of the beauty of the proof coins, artwork, and the moments in our his
