ASE Error

Mint made a goof I'm sure everyone received an e-mail from the U.S. Mint stating that their order for the 2010 ASE Proof Coin was sold out and their order was cancelled. I just got off the phone with the Mint and this was a computer generated error. So disregard and let out that sigh of relief,   moondoggy To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Ahhhhhhhhhh

Everything back to normal Received an e-mail this morning from Dena stating she was having the software engineers looking into the value changes. Just checked and ALL values are "Back in Black" (sorry couldn't help myself - AC/DC) and back to the values where they belong. I knew moderns couldn't have devalued like that. moondoggy To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

What's going on ????

What happened to values ..... Greetings all; I came here early Friday afternoon and checked my Kennedy's and ALL the FMV of every coin was now in red and only a fraction of their FMV from the day before. Then went to my Ike's and the very same. I called NGC and talked to Lisa and she was not aware of what was going on but passed on the info to higher ups. Still haven't heard back from anyone but is anyone else experiencing this phenomenon ? moondoggy To see old comment

One more to add

1996 Silver Finally have gotten around to replacing my 1996 PF69UC with a PF70UC. Have been busy going off in other directions for awhile so it was nice to get back to my Kennedy's at least for 1 coin. moondoggy To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. A big assist today

A really nice postal clerk Spent the better part of last evening going through the coins I was getting ready to submit to NGC for grading. Got em all packaged up and called it a night knowing I would take them to the P.O. tomorrow (today). To my surprise when I arrived at the P.O. on this side of town it wasn't busy (unusual) so I went right up to one of the service stations to send off my box. A lady clerk was waiting on me and when I told her how much I wanted to insure for and with posta

Upgraded one more

It was a very good year.... Greetings all; I am fortunate to be able to upgrade another one of my Kennedy's. This time around it was the 1983. This was a very good month for me as I added or upgraded a number of coins. Now that the funds are dry, (choke, choke) It's off to work we go...... Good fortune to all Mike (moondoggy) To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Didn't take my own advice

Do yourself a favor Ok, this morning I'm kicking myself for NOT following my own advice and because of it I had to do extra work. Last week I won a "lot" (one Kennedy) at one of the on-line auction houses. I had been "tracking" this coin for a week in advance. They had the photo's of the coin both obverse and reverse. So the day of the auction arrives and I submitted the winning bid. I waited all week for my new Kennedy to arrive as I was sure to be proud to add it to my collection. Well

A New Addition

A great looking coin for a modest price Greetings once again, Well as luck would have it, I acquired this 1979 Type 1 Kennedy in PF70UC on the first of the month. I say luck because it was one of those things that you bid an opening bid on and no-one else made a bid. I was in total shock when I received an e-mail informing me I was the winning bid. I couldn't get it paid for fast enough. It arrived in today's mail. This acquisition really made my month. Hope everyone had a great Labo

The SAE Mystery Continues

Will they or won't they ? Placed a call to the Mint tonight to straighten out a shipping problem and during my conversation, I asked about the ship date of Silver American Eagles (Proof) The customer service rep whom I was talking to laughed (she then said, "excuse me I forgot to push the mute button") and told me she too is a collector of these fantastic coins. I then asked if there was STILL a shortage of Silver for the program and she said YES !!! My next question was when will the "Offi

A new Morgan with something special

My first "Plus" acquisition. I really got this at a great price what with having a premium because of the (+). This is 1 of 2 Morgans that have been given a (+) for this particular year and mint. I try to follow the Official Red Book Guide to Morgan Silver Dollars when acquiring Morgans and this particular year it stated an MS64 was the optimal collecting grade to acquire. So with the (+) I figured it would be a big positive. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New

2 To Go

Nice Welcome home gift Just returned from a trip to the Windy City and found these 2 gems in my mail pile. The 95 Silver Kennedy has been a tough find in recent months that wasn't "above" FMV. Also was nice to add another MS70 to the Silver Eagles. Took a few items to my local coin store last week and "sold" em. I get a much better selling price there than at the Bay and there are NO shipping charges. The guy who runs the shop has been in coins and stamps for almost 50 years. He rea

Final Chapter of "Well This Is New"

Predictable outcome you might say Greetings once again all; Well much has transpired since my last post. I did file a formal complaint as I stated. After that, the individual who used "my coin" cert. number in his listing wrote and threatened to sue me for slander. Honest to God I kid you not. His message went on to state how he had won all these numerous lawsuits etc. Oh it gets better... So I talked to E-Bay for the second time last night and the lady from E-bay said she would expe

More Follow-up

More info just in As I am sure many of you are following my first post on this matter (Well This Is New) I contacted the NGC member who tried to register my coin. He did respond in a timely manner and what some of you surmised is in fact true. They purchased the coin on E-Bay from an NGC dealer and they used the cert number from the photo to go ahead and register the coin before they received it in hand. Of course that is when it came back to them that it is already registered to me. The s

Follow-Up to This is New

Talked to Amy I decided to give Amy a call this afternoon to see if there was anything else I needed to do besides "reject" the request. She told me no and also stated that this kind of mistake happens "all the time". I have since contacted the individual who was trying to register my coin to see if they could shed some additional light on where they acquired the coin and was that in fact the exact number as displayed or was it a typo? Well this is new

never happened before Just received an e-mail that another member here is trying to register one of my Kennedy's. Usually it is the other way around when you purchase a coin and the seller hasn't removed it (unregister it)from their set. Could they have entered a wrong number (I checked their collection and they are in need of this particular coin) ? Don't want to think somebody is trying something shady, but has anybody else had this happen to them ? Please let me know if you had ha

It is difficult

when you aren't adding to your collections Greetings once again. Well, it had been sometime since I last added anything to my collections so I fed the monster that resides inside all of us and purchased this 1921 Morgan. Nothing monumental but a nice "gem" Morgan that filled an open slot. Guess my honey-do list just grew some................ best to all Moondoggy

Dropping by

It has been awhile since I was last here Greetings my fellow numismatists. Well it has been some time since I've last posted a journal and sometime since I have acquired a coin for my collections. As most of you know I moved this Spring and it has taken some time and funds to get settled into the new "digs". My attention has been on designing and building my "Home Theatre". I almost have it complete. I am using a new InFocus projector, with a 92" diag. screen. Controlled lighting, etc.

To All Aspiring Photogs out there

A great program I give a hearty thumbs up to !!!!! Reading the journals on photography of coins I feel compelled to share this tidbit of software kingdom to all who aspire to take your coin photo's to new heights. Aannnnnd it is FREE for the taking. The program is Photo Pos Pro I have been personally using this program for two years and it just keeps getting better and better. The GUI is simple, if you want it will show you how to accomplish an end result and upgrades are also FREEEEEEEEE

Back in the saddle

Finally back to feeling the need Greetings all; Well the move is over and we aren't living out of boxes any longer, amen !!!!!!!!!! I have the new house networked (hard wired of course) with Cat 6 cable and a new DocSis 3.0 modem for screaming bandwidth. Just finished reading all the journals to get caught up. Some good ones I will admit. Also checked out the E-Bay scene and was somewhat surprised at what was being bid on a few Kennedy's. A few bids are way o

One more time

Another beauty added Greetings all; Today I added another PF70UC Kennedy to my set. A 1993 Silver. I had been watching for one to come along at a decent price that wasn't inflated by E-Bay bidders. Paid over $50 less than the last one that sold there. So happy about that. Will now put coin acquisitions on hold for brief time as we are moving and everything is getting boxed up. Good luck to all in your acquisitions moondoggy

One more to add

This is a really nice Mint State 65 My latest purchase arrived today. An 1879 S Rev. of 79 Morgan Silver Dollar in MS 65. I am really pleased with this acquisition as this coin is super in appearance. So another new neighbor arrives in "Morgan Park" and we welcome him with open arms !!!!
