To crack out or not?

If you crack out a coin, will it grade higher at another grading company!? This is what I am thinking.... Over the last 15 years I have been buying my pennies in slabs and trying to collect the best coins, regardless of the grade stated on the label for my Lincoln Cent Collection. So looking at some of my extra's, I found I have 6 2001-D PCGS MS-68 cents. So I think if I crack out one of the better ones, will NGC give it a MS-69? Tell me what you think? I think I have a better than av

My thoughts on Teletrade and Heritage.

Are they online retail stores or auction houses!? I have been buying from both Teletrade and Heritage for almost 10 years each. I hate to say this but I feel more and more that both are no more than retail companies. I say this because you do not see who you are bidding against. You only see the end result. If you are bidding against someone else, once in a while you catch a break and buy an item for a little less than the last highest sale. But with both Teletrade and Heritage you always se

to sell a coin for more or.... I enjoy reading when other coin collectors comment on grading. I wonder if we as a group of collectors should discuss who is better NGC vs. PCGS or should we break it down into something more important. Better struck/graded coin or bigger sales price if we sell? Lets think about it for a second. From, my past experiences, not being a dealer and only a casual collector, I feel its not that one is better than the other. Only that one company allows more slight ma

every week we should list the worst.... I think every week we all should list a photo of the worst coin we have seen graded. Sorta of like the oops the graders made a mistake with this one! So I will start with a coin I saw on Heritage auction for a Roosevelt dime. This one is a MS67FB coin, dated 1998-D. The same auction shows several others that are MS67's, but this one some how slipped through the process. Tell me what you think and let's have some fun showing some really bad coins!

a really crazy idea

lets beat them at there own game.... Hello to my friends and you "others" on this (NGC) site! Thank you for your positive comments from my recent posts. And thank you, to you "special group of friends" who bad mouth and threaten me, about my comments!? I will not get into the negative comments from you "special guys"... but lets get onto the item at hand! Now I am a PCGS site member, and I know some of you hate this! But some of you may or may not acknowledge that once in a while a PCGS

FBL's and grading

which is better! in response to WKF and the wisdom he is trying to share with us! LISTEN AND LEARN! Read his Journal and then read it again and learn! WKF, well a few years ago I noticed in a magazine that the coins sold by a very well known dealer seem to be off. Off meaning that the coins in the NGC holders were more money the the exact same ones in the PCGS holder. Yes we are talking about the FBL's halves, that you and I love so much. If you bought a full set of FBL's except the

When do you release a coin sold

I had a buyer try and register a coin, he just won on ebay I try and keep a coin in my registry until the new owner gives me feedback. Once I sold a coin on eBay and the new owner decided to list it in his registry right away. He didnt even pay for it! Another time a guy who bought the coin, listed it on his registry and then returned it to me. When I tried to re-register the coin, NGC would not allow it!? So when is the correct time to release a coin from your registry?

What is RED and what is Red Brown?

just look at the April 26th listings for Teletrade!? Well now for the April 26th Teletrade has over 100 1909 dated coins up for auction. Many are listed as "Red" but if you look at all of them, they may have been red at one time, but now they are all but maybe 1 or 2 coins, "red brown". Now of the over 20 red brown 1909 dated coins, only 1 or 2 would really be red brown now. The rest of those are all in the "only brown color"..... Why is this? Grade inflation?? Notice how many have carbon

Bulk grading vs. single coin grading?

Another try at this..... I sent out a 2009 SMS nickel to PCGS and got a SP68 grade on it. Top population at the time I received it. I wanted to see if a coin sent in one at a time for grading would grade differently than a bulk submission coin(s) sent in for grading at the same company. So I bought 4 additional coins from PCGS in the same grade, SP68 but all the coins I bought online were with the Satin Finish label, which means the coins were sent in under a bulk submission. Now I have 5 c

Bulk grading vs. single coin grading?

Do NGC and PCGS grade the bulk coins differently from the single coins sent in for grading? Do NGC and PCGS grade the bulk coins differently from the single coins sent in for grading? I know for a fact that you can send into PCGS a large number of the same date and or mint mark coins, and they give you a special label and grade the coins in bulk. But I am not sure about the NGC rules for bulk submissions. Maybe another member will comment on that here. Have you ever looked at the specia

out of 21 coins sent in, 9 top pops! Well after writing on how I try and protect my coins when I want to send them in for grading, I had to say..... Out of 21 coins sent in to PCGS, mostly 2009 satin finish coins, I scored 9 top or ties population coins. The population broke down like this, 1 of 52 coins, 09-d Presidency cent SMS, SF69 1 of 86 coins, 09-d dime SMS with full bands, SF69FB 1 of 204 coins, 09-p nickel SMS with full steps, SF68FS, note no coins are yet graded in 69! 1

How to send in coins

my 3 submission's.... In one of the coin publications I read an article about a coin dealer who sends in coins to be graded. He talked about using gloves, white cotton I think, so you would not get the oils from your fingers on the edge of the coins. He also wore a face mask, the plain white one's, so the air that you breath, when it leaves your body, has a certain level of moisture in it. This air will fall onto the surface of your coin and can ruin the surface. ---- Many years ago I s

My little crossover story....

a 1933-d and a 1914-s Lincoln penny coins I sent in a 1933-d SEGS MS-65 red coin to be graded by PCGS. I was sure I had a chance at a MS-66. When I am going to buy a coin for my 1909 to 1933 set, I look at as many online auction houses for recent sales and prices the coin sold for. My coin I thought had a small chance at the MS-66 grade, when I looked at the others I see online. I also sent in a 1914-s Lincoln cent to be graded. While the coin had a wonderful full strike and barely a mark i

Gold going crazy

do you sell now or buy? While at the local coin store I was chatting with the dealer and saw customers coming in and selling gold hand over fist. Then a few minutes later a guy came in asking to buy any gold he was willing to sell! My dealer friend told me that this goes on all day long. Some people sell and some come in begging to buy what ever he will sell. Same with silver! He can not keep a silver coin in stock, raw or certified! The only silver coins he has in stock is old dimes and q

Which is better, a 1920 MS-66 Brown coin or a MS-65 Red Lincoln cent?

Both coins are the same in point values, but the red is harder to find? I have been thinking about a coin I own, which is better to keep and hope go up in value, a red ms-65 or a brown ms-66 1920 Lincoln cent? The population of both coins, should not change much in the near future. Most original rolls of 1920 cents, have been sent in for grading. With the demand for full red coins, if anyone had one, they had it graded, at least trying to cash in on the recent strong coin market! The date

more of the same? or did we MISS the point? Hi Namvette68 and fellow collectors, If you have read any of the articles about the fake coins, with and without the word copy stamped on them and the faked slabs and how to id them, you need to see most of the slab (IF IN A SLABBED HOLDER) in a picture in order to have a chance to ID it. PCGS posted a note about viewing the back side of the slab, seeing the halo label and the 4 circular spots viewed around the coin. These spots show a connection

I removed over half of them to make sure I stay un-known. I have opened a PO Box like this mail account in a fake name. sense or cents!?

In response to Sarah's Coins, yes I am listening.... Mr. Cooper, I read your journal entry and am confussed!? Ebay has a policy that clearly states and I quote, "Listings for certified coins must include images showing the full front and back sides of the authentication slab." If Ebay has this policy, and you do not follow it, the question is why? It's not hard to post the photos. It's not hard to post 2 or 3 photos in an auction. I am sure you are one of the better sellers on Eba

Important new policy for coins listed on Ebay....Continues

Does Ebay ever stop an auction early....... Pictures of slabbed coins on Ebay.... I hate to say this, but I need help here with dear Ebay. They have not stopped any auctions that I have noticed on Ebay? Maybe they send the sellers a notice, which I have no way of knowing, but most big sellers still do not show a picture of a full slab! I have been doing this for over 3 weeks and have not seen one auction I have watched closed down early.... So help me by sending Ebay a note and lets see if w

Important new policy for coins listed on Ebay

Pictures of slabbed coins on Ebay.... I had a auction canceled because of a listing policy error on Ebay recently. In the email Ebay sent me it states, "Listings for certified coins must include images showing the "full" front and back sides of the authentication slab." In fact I did show both sides of the coin I was selling, but cut off the bottom edge of one side of the slab picture! So I thought this is why you, Ebay canceled my listing. But then...... This started me thinking and I found

This may send the right message!

A while back someone said how to send a message to an Ebay seller? Hi Collectors.... I feel like I accomplished what I intended, and I must say what a rise I got out of the SELLER who sold me that coin on EBAY! Someone on the Collectors Society suggested that instead of giving a seller a negative feedback reply, to give him a positive and then try giving them ONE stars to the 4 questions you answer about shipping fees and amount of time and so on and so on. So I did it! I gave the

Hey what has happened with the price of a 1926-s RED cent?

Prices seem to be falling on the "hardest to find" red coin in the Lincoln Wheat series..... Hi Collectors.... Well in my dreams I think of owning a 1926-s RED PCGS MS=64 Lincoln coin. So as a dreamer I watch the sale of these coins and see what is happening with them. So in the last 2 years have you noticed the price has fallen!? Yes that is right, the price for the sale of a 26-s Red MS-64 cent is falling. Also the price on the lone MS-65 Red example has fallen? If you bought the

Reply to "Reholder or not".....

No the cost is not $10.00 to re-holder, actually it is closer to $50.00! Hi Moondoggy and fellow collectors...... Well right now I am getting together some of my coins to send in for grading by PCGS. From what I know, the re-holder charge is $10.00,(yes) but when you submit the one slab you must use a PCGS form to fill out what you want done! This form cost is another $8.00 charge for that (form) by itself! Add to that the s&h return fee would be $17.40 for just one coin so PCGS can r
