About this journal

Time to switch gears.  Focusing on buying some investment property and need some capital. I haven't really added much

to my coin collection in awhile either.  I decided all my SAC, Presidential dollars and Silver Eagles must go.  If anyone is

interested, please look at my sets and let me know what tweaks your interest.  I am not done being part of this society just

clearing house... :)

1987 P Jefferson Nickel MS67 NGC MS 67 6FS - TOP POP!!

You just never know when it will happen! Here is another example of fishing for one and finding another instead. I bid on two Mint sets on Ebay a few weeks back and really was just interested in the 1981 Mint Set for the SBA's. The other set was a 1987. I went okay.....some more change for the bank later... I was disappointed with the 1981 set and I glanced at the 1987 and you just know when you find a six full step nickel and having it be a MS67 is a miracle. The observe does have a Proo

Nearly 60 but can not retire and just was laid off

See anything you like below, let me know WOW... One can never really be prepared when you get laid off from work. When you get close to retirement age and realize you may never get to really retire, it does get depressing. Doesn't matter how old you are when it happens, it feels the same way. Problem is that I have three grown children and all of them are out of work as well. I been trying to help out with two of them moved back home...again. Most of you have already experienced this you

In search of high grade SBA's

Would you believe a MS67 from a US Mint set? One would think that all the 79'-81' Mint Sets have been searched over and sold and searched over again. It was just by chance I picked a Ebay seller with low Feedback numbers as one that doesn't sell that much or is fairly new at Ebay. I only paid $8.00 plus shipping. As soon as I looked thru my 16x piece, I suspected the 1981D was a MS67. I even thought the 1981S was a MS66. I was half right, the 1981D is a MS67. Just got the results back fr

Silver Eagle Set

First its all part of the set now its all removed NGC just adjusted the Silver American Eagle registry set. From 2011 to the present, NGC had all the "Struck" Eagles part of the set. I was about to give up trying to collect 6 - 7 eagles every single year was getting way too much. Now its back to where it really belongs. So now what do I do with all those other Eagles I never really wanted to buy in the first place.. Merry Christmas everyone! Keith To see old comments for this Journ

re: Why are there so many PCGS sets in NGC's Registry?

Because PCGS overgrades their modern coins and everyone knows they can buy it cheaper with a PCGS label. I have stated before that NGC needs to start exclusive sets that only allow NGC graded coins. There are too many sets with most or all PCGS coins in the NGC registry. This is really unfair that buy the coin and the label and are given no credit at all for this. I believe PCGS coins should have to be sent in to be CrossOver within a certain timeframe or have their points reduced to the ne

1969-S NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo Jefferson Nickel

A EBAY steal Usually I don't mention on here what I purchased or added to any of my collections. I have been searching for a 1969 S PF69 UC nickel for awhile that was affordable. There was one being auctioned on Ebay I noticed over this weekend. Starting bid at $139.00 with less than 24 hrs left and no bids. I bid $146.00 and hoped for the best. I am one of those that question paying too much for a modern coin. If I can't get a deal, then I just pass on it. Low and behold, No one else

It was fun while it lasted.

Corporate Money has no place in these personal registries It was fun being No 1 in the Presidential Business Strike set while it lasted. I take pride that I am just a small collector with small resources to be Number 1 for even a year. I only will have NGC slabbed coins in the presidential registry because this is a NGC website. Until PCGS allows NGC coins in their sets, they should be ban from this site as well. I bet over half the awards went to collectors that have over half their collec

First Day Issue Presidential Dollar set

All will go!! I made a decision last night and felt the same way this morning. I been collecting the Presidential dollars since the start in 2007. It gets to be a lot to have a FDI set, a Business set, a SMS set and a proof set. I have stopped the SMS set about two years ago. I realized I would have been one of those collectors what would have loved to try to order the 2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle set. I could only afford to order one set. A set that could really appreciate over the

Mint State Presidential Dollars

Banks may not order any more future rolls??? Isn't it strange that the local bank branches which is part of a large midwest banking instition has decided not to order any more business strike presidential dollar rolls? Their reasoning is that they believe there is more than enough dollars in circulation now. SAY WHAT?? Isn't that one of the main reasons why the US Mint and our government started with dollar coins again for circulation is to eventually replace or least reduce the amount of p

Ego & Vanity vs Principles & Integrity

What would you do? I could easily be NGC Best in Category for the Presidential Mint State series. All I would need to do is buy the two MS69s available on Ebay and I would be in the lead. The price is not too bad for either of those Presidents either. Here's the issue: I could sell out my principles and integrity for what is simply for Ego and Vanity. Awards are nice but if it all it takes is who has the most money in the end to win, its not much of an accomplishment. And, in hundred yea

1989 S Jefferson Nickel PF70 UC NGC

This even surprised me. Earlier I posted I upgraded my Nickel Proof collection and thought I would never be able to purchase any PF70 UC nickels under the year of 1990. One seller kept having a weekly auction of the 1989 nickel. They were going between $85 and $125.00, I placed a bid on one for this past Sunday for a max of $85.00 and no one bid on it after me so I purchased it for only $76.00!! A Long and Winding Road Indeed

Finally found that MS67!! Ever get a hunch that there has to be a MS67 but trying to find it is another thing all together. I have been searching box after box of the Harrison "D" dollars. There was only four FDI MS67 and they were all found by one person but there was never a business strike "D" MS67. After $10,000 (or more) I finally got a box that most looked better than all the other boxes and it was just pure luck I ever even got that box. I asked my local bank to order another box of

2010 D Fillmore Edge Error

Another Partial Missing Edge Lettering Dollar I have been fortunate to find three partial missing edge lettering dollar errors since the Presidential dollar series began. I never did find any total blank edge like the Washingtons though. I don't collect error coins per se but I am rather curious about the collectors that do. Is it really that valuable to have a modern day error coin like the missing edge? Not that I am not complaining though since they do tend to bring in a few bucks to u

MS Nickels - Six Full Steps

Its not easy finding these in higher grades with full steps. Its been awhile since I posted anything to the journal or have been able to do much collecting since my unemployment beginning of the year. It seems the market place is not as eager to hire a Vietnam-Era Vet over 55. As the line goes from the movie "Youth is wasted on the wrong people"... Here is my lastest attempt for those nickels: 001 1988 D 5C MS 66 6FS 002 1989 P 5C MS 66 6FS 003 1989 D 5C MS 65 6FS

Commemorative Update

Six out of Six! I wrote before that I sent in 2 of the Disabled Veteran Proofs and 4 of the Uncirculated for grading. Lisa was so nice to let me know the status. ALL 70's!! I never had 100% before....either I got lucky or my eyes are not as bad as I believed! Yeeeehaw!

2009 Registry Awards

Once again...Changes need to happen here!! Here we are a month before the close of all the registries to be honored as the best in all categories. Most take it serious and take pride in their sets and being honored as having the best set. However, when PCGS coins are allowed in a NGC Collectors Society and are NOT allowed to have NGC coins on the PCGS site, things need to CHANGE! NGC has never inspected any PCGS coin that reside in any registry set yet they are accepted as equals without

Presidential Business Strike Dollars

Its been rewarding and a challenge thus far. First off, I want to thank "SBH" for the compliment he left on his own registry set about mine. Not everyone appreciates sticking to only grading or buying NGC coins. Secondly; I still have a few FDI dollars left in the First Day Issue set, I've been selling them off one of one. I could add them to my Business Strike set but that is not the intent to that set and I could never get the Number One set in my lifetime unless I was for

2016 Poor Quality Mint Sets

2013 P Jefferson Nickel Reverse Struck Thru Error

A MS67 too! I went to my local coin dealer in Green Bay. They sell more trading cards than coins. Not surprising yeh? Anyways, I bought 4 of the 2013 Mint Sets. There last four they had in stock with 3 still sealed brown boxes and one open for display. The best of all four sets was....the opened one... Going thru the coins in the sets something caught my eye and I relooked and sure enough there is a few impressions on the Reverse right below the steps. The photo didn't show it all b

Poor 2014 U.S. Mint Sets

Submitted only 18 coins from 55 Mint Sets What can I say. You wait all year for the next annual Mint Sets to arrive hoping to find just one MS69 coin. For me, that hasn't happened yet and after going thru 55 Mint Sets, it won't be this year either. Out of 1,540 coins, I was only able to find 18 good enough to submit for grading. My only real goal is to populate my Presidential Business Strike Registry set. All duplicates and other coinage are sold to support my habit. Here is the res

2011 (w) struck at West Point Silver Eagles

Check out Ebay If you were like me and collect Silver Eagles and avoided buying the 2011 (w) Silver Eagle because it was not originally part of the Silver Eagle registry slots until real recent, check out Ebay. Though they are PCGS bullion, I doubt if you will find any that are still affordable with NGC. BTW... I don't sell Silver Eagles...just buy the ones I need to fill my slots is all Good luck! Persistance Pays Off

One big WOW too! Here is my latest submission results. I been chasing the 2011 P Sacagawea and the P Garfield for some time. I got both MS68's this time. I wasn't going to pay $300 or more for either of these modern dollars. I have now looked at about 40 - 2013 US Mint sets and I have to say that the quality has really took a nose dive. It will really take some effort to get all the 2013 Presidents in MS68 year. I may need to even purchase a few but no way would any be worth $500 or mor
