About this journal

Time to switch gears.  Focusing on buying some investment property and need some capital. I haven't really added much

to my coin collection in awhile either.  I decided all my SAC, Presidential dollars and Silver Eagles must go.  If anyone is

interested, please look at my sets and let me know what tweaks your interest.  I am not done being part of this society just

clearing house... :)

PCGS Crossover to NGC

More times than not, modern coins do not crossover. With all the hype how PCGS coins are valued higher, it doesn't always mean their grades equal NGC. I have come to a conclusion that PCGS over grades most modern coins meant for circulation. Perhaps they don't value modern coins importance so they don't examine as carefully as they do with the Commemorative coins and the older classics. I usually buy a few PCGS modern coins hoping they crossover to NGC to keep my registry as close to NGC co

A Strange but interesting Error

A SAC star is born... I found this error on a 2009 P SAC dollar from a bank roll. I don't collect errors unless it a true variety from NGC. I know this will be a one of a kind indeed. This can be seen with the naked eye as well. The question I have how would the "star" get there and where would it have come from. It looks larger than the stars on the edge. Would this be considered a "Die Clash"? There are two parallel lines that are near this star as well but does not show up on the pictu

2007 P Thomas Jefferson NGC MS67 FDI

Wants to trade my "D" for a "P" I still have one more 2007 D Thomas Jefferson NGC MS67 FDI available. Does anyone have a 2007 P Thomas Jefferson NGC MS67 FDI to trade or barter?

Merry Christmas to me!

One of my best submission ever!! I have been finding a coin here and there and had waited until I had enough for a submission to make it worth while. I just learned of the results and I am really impressed. The 2014 P SAC MS69 and the 2014 D Kennedy MS69 blew me away. I should be collecting Mint State nickels but I thought collectiing the proofs was enough. The 1972 P nickel MS66 6FS was more than I expected as well. There is only one that exists in that grade before this one. Merry X

1956 Franklin Type 1 or Type 2

May the real Franklin standup I just purchased a complete collection of the 1956 NGC PF68 penny thru half dollar. They are in the older NGC holders. I noticed that the franklin doesn't have marked Type 1 or Type 2. My question is....is there a plain 1956 Franklin that isn't either a Type 1 or 2? and what is the diffence between those types? Thanks!

1999 P SBA MS 67 W

What does the "W" mean? I was going through some of my graded SBA coins. I came across this 1999 P SBA MS67 W. What does the "W" mean? I checked the number 119661-066 and it doesn't show anything other the norm. If you know what the "W" means and if this is rare, please let me know! Thanks

Excellent NGC submission

Sometimes I even surprise myself! I've only been an active member here for 2 years and I can honestly say I am obsessed with the modern coins. I know that most seasoned collectors don't really consider modern coins worth the time to bother with them. I do appreciate the early designs and especially the history that goes with them. My pocketbook wouldn't allow me to invest with many early coins. I learned from a local coin dealer that they only way to learn how to grade coins is just sta

1960 Uncirculated Mint Set

1960 TYPE B REV 25C I just received a 1960 mint set I purchased on Ebay. I always inspect the coins to evaluate the conditions of the coins to see if any are worthy to send in for grading. Something told me to see if there is any Varieties. Sure enough clear as day the "P" quarter has the 1960 TYPE B REV variety. This is my first variety find. The quarter is possibly MS66. So now I need some advice what you would do. Should I leave the mint set as is or break the quarter out to grad

Wondering where some of those Anniversary Sets went to?

Hundreds of sets?? Here an email I just received from ParadiseMint: 2011 American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets   This is the set that sold out in approx 5 hours at the US Mint. The mintage was half of the 2006 20th Anniversary Sets. While we have hundreds of sets coming in or at NGC. We do still expect to sell out quickly so don't delay.   Hundreds??? Hmmm...talk about abuse and lack of any consideration over greed and sheer profit! They are selling raw sets for over $100

Washington Dollar MS67

Went thru a few boxes only to find a few worth grading. After 5 boxes of "P" dollars looking for that infamous edgeless coin and taking time to pick out a few that was worth grading. I figured I had one MS67 and the rest MS66. I was correct on all of them except one MS65. My eyes must have tricked me again... Being from a small populated area in Wisconsin, the banks don't get the new coins in right away, making it impossible to ever get that gem MS67FD. I think there's too much weight p

Lincoln LP2 - 2 roll set Shipped

Lincoln LP2 - 2 roll set Shipped I can not hardly believe it....Take a look!   Product Name Quantity Price (each) Total Item Status Cancel   2009 LINCOLN 2-ROLL SET "FORMATIVE YRS" 5 $8.95 $44.75 5 units shipped on 05/22/2009   Also, I was Number One for a few months on the Presidential Mint Dollars until yesterday....I still think an all or almost all NGC set should count higher than someone just using PCGS that tends to overgrade their presidential dollars.

What brings joy and satisfaction to a coin collector?

Thrill of the hunt Many things that an average coin collector receives that a corporation and deep pockets can't. That thrill going thru rolls of coins you just got from your local bank. That anticipation of finding that unique error or that near perfect strike. I recently purchased a original bank wrapped 1954 S quarter roll. That excitement knowing you were the first one ever to lay eyes on those coins in over 55 years. The awe and wonder of those coins of the luster and shine. Findin

Silver and Clad Quarter Proof Sets

Its easy to weigh the sets from Ebay It looks like each year can vary just a couple of tenths but I weighed the 2005 Silver and Clad Quarter proof sets and here's what I found out. All 5 Silver Proof Quarters with the plastic case = 76.8 grams All 5 Clad Proof Quarters with the plastic case = 73.2 grams It might help if someone has all the sets straight from the Mint to weigh them and post all the results so we can protect ourselves from cheats!

What happens if ...

Returned 25th Anniversary SAE sets These late coming 25th Anniversary SAE sets makes me wonder. What do you think the U.S. Mint would do with returned 25th Anniversary SAE sets?? Sets that the original buyer bought, opened the boxes and saw the poor quality and returned them. Would the U.S. Mint repackaging them and resell them again?? This might be a buyer be aware!! I hope sure hope not but just wondering is all. Keith Stevens To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here

Where's the Beef???

No 2012 dollar census It has been over 4 weeks at least that neither the Presidential or the Sacagawea mint state dollar census has been entered. Anyone else notice this? I really would like to know the census numbers one of these days. Keith To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

1959 Proof Set

Usually they are disappointing. I purchased a 1959 Proof set for $22.00. I did not really have high expectations. Usually they are stained and poor strikes and a few dings.   This time...wow...I was very impressed and excited.   I didn't waste anytime to submit all five with some others I have been holding on until I had enough to make it worth it.       Here is my prediction:   Penny PF68 (maybe Cameo)   Nickel PF68 (possible PF69)   Dime PF68 (outside chance for Cameo)

Presidental sets

1000 hit milestone Still number 1....for now. I know its more important where you rank at beginning of the year. For now...I am thankful I least held that position for awhile. With that being said, I know I will have the best NGC graded presidents in the registry. Some still have made no effort to fill the slots with any NGC. I have said before....any slot filled with PCGS graded coins especially when there are NGC coins available. I have a different set with just FDI PCGS but after 200

2010 Buchanan Business Strike President

Could this be the key date/President for the series??? With the NGC census updated today, I am quite surprised with the low population that was graded for this president. Has some dealers stopped grading the presidents already? Has the collector walked away from the series this soon? I believe it is just a lull before Lincoln dollar is released then watch everyone's brother hop on board if they never collect another president. I will make my prediction now and say that the Buchanan dolla

2015 Business Strike Submittal Results

The 2015 Roosevelt MS69 FT dime was a real surprise so was the 2015 Bombay MS67 PL quarter.Over all, not too bad. My real desire is with the Presidential Dollars. The series is about to come to a close too. Only one MS68 dollar of the ones I submitted. I had bought 55 Mint sets and did not find many at all to send it.The 2015 Roosevelt MS69 FT dime was a real surprise sowas the 2015 Bombay MS67 PL quarter. This is my first PL quarter too. I will let you ponder over the results below. It

US Postal Service....

Indeed....quite the service indeed! Anyone else have registered packages lost in the mail over the last few months? I have been expecting one from NGC since it departed March 9th from Sarasota to Wisconsin. There is no info on the USPS site since it left there and its been 9 days. It has never taken over a week before usually its 3-4 days. It would be a shame because I may never get to replace those coins with any other ones like it.

Disturbing Discovery

This one gives other coin dealers a bad rap in my opinion. I have recently discovered a dealer on Ebay that goes by two different names. He use to go by what looked very similar to a name of Gotcha. Most dealers will put forth the effort and send in raw coins for grading then sell them on Ebay. This one does the vulture method and buys up newly graded coins from other dealers on Ebay that no one bids on. Basically taking graded coins away from real collectors. Anyways.... the more recent t

New Categories Needed!!

Open and Closed Set Types From my last journal entry, more agree with me and a few diehard PCGS collectors do not. They do not believe they should give up there ranking now. I take great pride when I select coins to send them in for grading to NGC. I do not send in bulk like most dealers who do not care about the coins' appearance just the grade. When I purchase coins for my registry, I look for only NGC coins first after all, this is a NGC Collectors Society. How would you feel if you j

Something has got to change!!

PCGS SMS and First Day Issues most will not Crossover! The registry really should be for NGC graded coins alone. PCGS has their own registry and those coins should not be allowed in here. I have several Satin Finish Presidential dollars MS69 that I know will not crossover. If you can visibly see stains or marks with the naked eye, everyone knows that they would never be a MS69 SMS with NGC. There should be an allowance for those collectors that only want NGC in their registries. I chall
