About this journal

All bullion coins are minted at West Point, NY.  The S mint mark is a scam to make people think they are getting something special, at double, or triple the going price of a real Silver Eagle. In effect, the "S" coin is a phony, and doesn't have a place in the Registry. "Minted at" coins fall into the same category. The label can say anything they want.....even the Sheboygan Mint!

NGC removed the other coins, this one has to go also.

I too laid out hundreds of dollars only to have them erased, such  as the "2000 Millennium" ASE. Another gem that we "had" to have.  They won't pay   those coins we now have to eat.

NGC IMAGING - UPDATED

I am glad to see it's not just me having trouble! Hello everyone! I have been trying to see my 1960 large date Lincoln 1c with the NGC verification tab. All I get for 3 days is image is not available. I thought they may not have imaged it. When the Sacs were done I looked to see them and they all looked great! Now nothing!.....There are no images available at all. My scanner is out on loan for a week while another collector catches up with his coins. That's my fault for being Mr. Ni

NEXT YEAR?

With a turn around time (Modern) of 45 days, my submission will arrive next year. Between the Mint taking 2 weeks to ship, the Post Office taking almost 2 weeks to deliver(first class), First and Early releases can be forgotten. I see the times have been shortened by over a week....I'm hopeful.  I'd be happy with the coins, truthfully. Good Luck everyone!

namvette68 in Waiting Patiently

My trial set has been graded.

The results are in! Hello everyone! The trial is over. The 8 Sacagawea PF 70 coins I sent to PCGS for crossover are done! You all had your ideas and preferences. My $1,500.00 set is now a little less than $500. I will also lose a #1 Registry set this year. I hope everyone that gripes about the two grading companies, now has a different perspective.   Now you know why PCGS is more expensive than NGC. They have fewer 70s. Not a PF 70 in 8 submissions! My response to BULLY........and others

Here's my 2 cents worth. Hello all! All these coins and not enough boxes! Let's see......six new quarters for 2009. Do we really need any more? They get their own category. All 12. Then in 2010 we get more? Oh yeah........the national parks. Sacagawea.....you want some? Any vending machine in the Post Office will have them. Put in a $5 and you'll get them in change. Oh, how they tarnish so quickly. The business strikes are so bad, you'll never make a set of MS 69s. Then NGC adds t

MY PF 70 TRIAL SET HAS BEEN SUBMITTED

To be, or not to be? We'll have the answer shortly! Hello fellow collectors! Well, I went and did it. I sent out 8 of my Sacagawea PF 70 set to PCGS for crossover grading. It may take up to 30 days for the results. They don't have the turn-around times like NGC. My PCGS membership......yes, I am a member there too, allows me 8 free submissions. I took advantage of all 8. I know there are some that do not like having PCGS slabs in the Society's Registry. I bought the coins for one

MY FIRST PCGS SET

I had to settle for only 9 coins. I recently decided to add a set of PCGS graded Sacagawea golden dollars to my collection. PCGS has only 9 coins to a set. I am in the process of building a PR69DCAM SET. I only need the 2002 and 2007. Unlike NGC with the "First Year Of Issue", green label, pedigree, this set is easier to complete, and a little cheaper.

MY FIRST 70 OF THE NEW YEAR

I guess it takes a miracle? Hello everyone! I just received my first 70 of the year. It's the 2010 $15 Canada Lunar Lotus, Year of the Tiger. It is absolutely gorgeous. I checked it out and it is flawless for such a high mintage strike. It's number 10507 of 19888. The RCM has craftsmanship that is unequaled. Their coins show Canadian imagination and beauty. Their subject diversification and commemorative dedication makes them a great choice for collectors. Unlike the US, stuck on eagles a

MY EAGLES HAVE LANDED

100% was the goal Hello everyone, I just added the last two MS Eagles to my collection. I now have both sets at 100%. Here's hoping that 2012 will bring us only 2 coins. Did somebody say, 26th Anniversary set? I'm outta here. Happy Collecting

MY 1945 CAME BACK A ZERO!

I guess it looked like it turned black from something? Hi all! The results are in, and just as I figured. "Environmental Damage" was the verdict on my 1945 KM13A Penny. I guess all the black stuff on the coin made it hard to grade, so it must have come from the environment. I guess if it were green it's the PVC? That is an expensive coin to throw away. I asked them to describe the"damage" and see if it was worthy of NCS conservation. No answer. Email says they shipped the lot already

MOVIN' ON UP

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble. Well, I went and did it. I started a set of Presidential Dollars in PF 70. I am proud to have another #1 ranked set. After trying to get some nice photos of the obverse, I opted to leave the reverse scans for now. I am going build a photo booth (miniature) for at least the obverse. I'll see soon if it works. I have a good set to work with. It'll need to be good enough to present it properly. I want to at least get an "Honorable Mention" by someone.

Modifications?

One day it's there....next day it's gone! Hello everyone, I lost a set of my new 2011 Presidents to a modification by NGC. I had several coins for the slots that I entered on 1-28. I entered them all and shortly my top set was down on the list. I now have one coin listed on 2-4-11. I didn't do it. I had my sets in order and left them, but now they do not reflect it. Has anyone else had their sets "modified" without actually doing it themselves? I know another member has had it happen too

MISSING COIN?

I count 7. NGC counts 6? I count 7 coins in my Second Kennedy Anniversary set of half dollars. The score is as a number 1 set. The Grades are also. Collecting used to be fun, it has become less now that the US Mint has gone haywire. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

MISSING AWARD

At the deadline for entering coins for the awards, I had the #1 Proof Presidential set in the Registry. No mention of it in the downloads section. I also had the #2 set at the end, for this year, yet that was only close. Someone got an undeserved award, and I still am near the top. Collecting this set was a passion. There was only one top set. I tried.

MATHMATICAL ERROR!

I thought my figures were close.......NOT!!! Hello again all! I just checked the PCGS price list for a Sacagawea proof 70 set(9 coin). Yup, only $5,825.00 for a nine coin set. My 10 coin sets in PCGS would be $7,975.00. I can see everyone jumping ship now. Just think of it this way. A 2000 Sac is worth more in PCGS than my entire, 10 coin, NGC PF 70 set. Amazing? A lot of people ask me why I have so many Sac sets. Now you know.

I got a big box in the mail today! Hey everyone! All it had inside was a silver eagle. I guess it was worth the trip up to the mailbox. Some guys have all the luck. I hope everyone has a day like mine!

KUDOS TO NGC!

And I thought I was fast! Hello everyone! I just got a nice email from a fellow member. I also got a nice email from NGC. My 1958 proof set that I sent to NGC for grading(1/26/09)is ready for shipment. WOW! They have impressed me with a turn around like that. I know it won't happen like that always, but I have to say I love it. I expected several weeks and perhaps a bunch of non-grades coming back. I only submitted 5 coins. A 1958 proof set I had never opened. After 50 years I will

KNOCKING ON THE 500 DOOR ?

I almost made it today.......but Hello all! Well, I got a shock today.....again. I just acquired the NH "W" silver quarter I need for my "weird" set. I got the coin listed. I uploaded the photo and description. I hit the "SAVE" button and sat back and waited for the usual process. My description and photo made it! Success right?.............Not!!! NGC says the coin is a PF 69. Now I am confused. My last post had a problem with NH too! Am I jinxed? I am almost afraid of g

JUST MY OPINION!

You know I had to say something........ Hello all! I try for short, and to the point, but it often fails. First, by definition, professionals are not necessarily experts. Anyone can be a professional. Experts are those that are highly knowledgeable in a certain field. Some experts are not "professionals". Most professionals are not "experts." It's a greed thing. Next, the crossover thing. I look at coins that are, what they are, and then say......."what if?" Well, most of you know I

JUST FOR GIGGLES

Native American Dollars? I just hope the Native Americans get slots of their own. I thought they were ridding us of the "Godless" coins? With so many dollars available, 6 new quarters, and 4 pennies. It's a dollars and cents hobbie anyway. In my case, more dollars than sense. I wish they'd stuck to just the American Eagles. Happy 2009 all!!!

It's back again!

There is a coin God afterall? Hello everyone, As some of you know, a Presidential set of mine had moved from it's original spot. I asked NGC to look into it as I had entered the coins all on the same date. Well, it took a little time, but alas, my set is back where it started. I'd like to thank J. Garcia and those responsible for investigating and repairing this modification. I am happy to see my set back, and still glad that all of us can work things out. I never expected to achieve a

IT LASTED FOR A DAY

It was fun for awhile. Hi everyone! My goal of being ranked 500 lasted almost a full 24 hours. I suppose being somewhat responsible for a few new members(some freebies, some not)led to my demise. I woke up this morning at 505.....hmmmmmm? My NC PF 70 was accepted this afternoon, but it only got me up to 502. A new member bought a set of my Sacs. He now owns the next 10 coin Sac set to be registered. There goes my world domination. Competition is good! Isn't it? I will lose the

IT DIDN'T MAKE IT TO THE WEEKEND!

I hate to say "I told you so"............but Hi Everyone! A short note this time. In my post about imaging, I entered the lines directly from the NGC page with both coins numbered and labeled. I stated it wouldn't last long. It didn't. It is now a plain 1945, as predicted. "It's too tough to grade" is NGC's retort. If we can't grade it, we eliminate it. They've seen two of these KM13-A coins so far, and still no one has seen a difference? I have done MY homework. The first is now f

IS NO NEWS REALLY GOOD NEWS?

First it is.......then it isn't. Hello everyone! Well it's another weekend at NCS and NGC for a few of my submissions. It seems they are either scheduled for evaluation or scheduled for grading. Last week one from NCS went to NGC, scheduled for grading. Later it was in quality control. This weekend it's back in "scheduled for grading" again? I guess the fresh ocean breezes will do wonders for them. I never really worried much about these coins until they took over a week to get to NGC.
