About this journal

All bullion coins are minted at West Point, NY.  The S mint mark is a scam to make people think they are getting something special, at double, or triple the going price of a real Silver Eagle. In effect, the "S" coin is a phony, and doesn't have a place in the Registry. "Minted at" coins fall into the same category. The label can say anything they want.....even the Sheboygan Mint!

NGC removed the other coins, this one has to go also.

I too laid out hundreds of dollars only to have them erased, such  as the "2000 Millennium" ASE. Another gem that we "had" to have.  They won't pay   those coins we now have to eat.

FOUR COINS/THREE SLOTS ?????

Where's our 24th President? I have four new 2012 Presidential Proof coins graded by NGC, and only three slots to put them in? WAKE UP!!! I registered them all anyway. Happy Collecting everyone! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

SOME NICE EMAIL

I follow Dilbert and coffee? Hi all, You guys are too nice. I am truly flattered. I am impressed that I am becoming a household tradition. Coffee,Dilbert, and NGC journals. I guess I have to compete with Dilbert? I really do appreciate all of you sending mail. A few have voiced concern about some matters. Everything will work out. To those asking about the changed label, I added the best image I can post in a journal. The coin that's on the label is strangely outside the slab. For t

I AM DIVERSIFYING..............AGAIN

I am going to dump my shoebox out and submit the first coin I find! Hello all! I have 5 "modern" world coins at NCS for eval and/or conservation. I have more on the way too. I just remembered about an old shoe box I stashed away, and a beautiful "coin" I thought was junk. After realizing I know nothing about condition, I'll send in this "junker" and see. I have no idea what it is, but then again, I am not the expert. My NZ penny set is starting to take shape. Five nice Unc/BU reds

ANOTHER COMPLETE SET TO NGC!

A lot of bucks for a possible 42 point set? Hi everyone! 42 points is the lowest they'll grade. It's a 14 coin circulated series. I was going through some sets of world coins and realized some slots could be filled by some that I have amassed. I had to buy a few to get the set complete.(I have learned to accept whatever grades I get), but at least it will be 100%. I will be replacing my 1960 1c large date soon. I kept the one I had as a not so fond memory and a wasted grading. Sacs d

THANKS TO ALL !

So many friends, so little time. Hello all! I am overwhelmed by everyone's response. Friend and foe, alike. I have to add a few answers to everyone that asked for certain coins, or sets. If my collection sells before the Registry Awards, I will release everything for you to compete. I do not wish to break up this collection. The quicker I liquidate, the quicker I can get other plans rolling. To my friends out of the US, I wish I could sell to you, but customs would flag the collection

BEAUTIES TO BODY BAGS - WHO WATCHES? WHO CARES?

REJECTED! Hey all NGC must have known I am upset. My 14 paragraph dissertation on their incompetence got deleted. Papamesa is right. To move the label, you have to hit it hard enough to shatter the case. I have received gouged slabs in a "pristine" shipping box? The NGC scans do not show any damage. How does this happen? If the USPS indeed is handling them this roughly, the packaging is to blame. A paper divider, half full, is chintzy, at best. These coins mostly leave NGC in the c

I'M OUTTA HERE !

I have held on too long. Hello everyone, Hopefully 2010 will be my last year of competing in the Registry. I have had fun, and met a lot of nice friends. My sets are as good as I am going to make them. It is time to liquidate and persue other venues. I will hold one Sac proof set, a Prezzie proof, and my Proof Silver Eagles. My MS Eagle set, and the New Zealand Pennies will stay also. Everything else will go.....hopefully. It's been a blast, and a challenge, to get as far as I have. A ne

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Out of one year and off to the next. Hello everyone, It's been a hectic year for me. I spend as much time in the hospital as I do with my coins. I have, however, added a few upgrades, and just tonight finished my #1 2007 Complete Proof set. I wish everyone a prosperous coming year. I will try to keep my competetive sets at the top, even if they are for sale. Have a great evening, and hope to see you all here, and writing in the journal, for a long time to come. Best Wishes, John

MISSING AWARD

At the deadline for entering coins for the awards, I had the #1 Proof Presidential set in the Registry. No mention of it in the downloads section. I also had the #2 set at the end, for this year, yet that was only close. Someone got an undeserved award, and I still am near the top. Collecting this set was a passion. There was only one top set. I tried.

I MISSED OUT BY 1 COIN!

I looked for a nice one , but........... Hi everyone! I hope all enjoyed the Holiday. I have been busy trying to image the missing few in my sets. My NZ 1d set will be ahead by 1 point whenever NGC gets the certification from PCGS. This is going to be a close one. I wanted to enter my NZ half crowns, but the 1961 wasn't really a beauty. I figure an XF, at best. Rather than waste a grading, I'd wait. Well, I found a lot nicer coin, but a bit too late for the competition. Oh well. I could

ON A MORE POSITIVE NOTE!

There is always a solution. Hello everyone! I got a few emails about negativity. Me? I want to set the record straight. I deal with facts as they are presented to me. Period. I call them as I see them. Here's the latest: Thanks to Dena, and maybe a few others, who took the time to see there was a "glitch" in the program. The annoying "fly in the ointment," so to speak. People should be recognized for what the do and get done. Too many get praise for what they say they can do. Dena

Environmental Damage PartII

Can you ever be sure? Hi everyone! I was just looking to see if all my latest submissions made 70s, when I saw cvcc's journal. I guess it happens to everyone sooner or later. I have done what I can to prevent environmental damage. These slabs, regardless of grading company, are not perfect. They do a fine job of physically protecting the coin, but airborne contaminants are just that. They infiltrate places nothing else can go. I see 2009 coins already toning in slabs.....why? They are

RETALIATION?

My details graded coins are still "scheduled for grading?" Hello everyone, I guess I will never get them done. They are already temporarily entered into slots, but big deal. If I try to sell then, no one can check the numbers in the Registry. I guess when you have a valid dispute, it is countered like this. I bet they get cleared before subscription renewal. I see the minute the KM-13A disappeared, everyone wants to have a set. Howard Mitchell says, all it takes is common sense to see t

IS NO NEWS REALLY GOOD NEWS?

First it is.......then it isn't. Hello everyone! Well it's another weekend at NCS and NGC for a few of my submissions. It seems they are either scheduled for evaluation or scheduled for grading. Last week one from NCS went to NGC, scheduled for grading. Later it was in quality control. This weekend it's back in "scheduled for grading" again? I guess the fresh ocean breezes will do wonders for them. I never really worried much about these coins until they took over a week to get to NGC.

IMAGING DAY

Here's what they look like? Hi everyone! A few slabs(appropriately named)came back today. I imaged the QEII, New Zealand pennies, and they are looking quite good. The 1945 NZ George VI looks good, even though it lost the"British flan", KM-13A, pedigree. They must have hit delete on that line of the label. It's now in a slot though. I won't argue the grade. A DAY LATE AND A.............?

Few COAs short! Hello everyone! Here I thought I was doing everything right. I filled out the submission forms with everything needed to adequately convey my submission to the actual/eventual graded slab. I just happened to omit: The Certificate of Authenticity!!! Some Canadian coins have a serial number on the COA. Can everyone in unison say DUH??? Thank goodness a fax is somewhat faster than snailmail. My coins arrived, and they should mate up tomorrow or the next day. The next

I FINALLY FOUND IT!

I knew I put it in a safe place. Hi all! I have been in my coin room for 3 hours looking for a teensey, weensey coin. At least I think it's a coin. I told you in a previous journal I had one that I wanted to send to NGC. With all that's going on, I am hesitant. If it is a real coin, I should let NCS evaluate it. Maybe conserve it so it will grade at NGC? I am here to ask some help before I spend money on a potential loser. Can anyone identify this for me? I know it's old, but not how old

MY FIRST 70 OF THE NEW YEAR

I guess it takes a miracle? Hello everyone! I just received my first 70 of the year. It's the 2010 $15 Canada Lunar Lotus, Year of the Tiger. It is absolutely gorgeous. I checked it out and it is flawless for such a high mintage strike. It's number 10507 of 19888. The RCM has craftsmanship that is unequaled. Their coins show Canadian imagination and beauty. Their subject diversification and commemorative dedication makes them a great choice for collectors. Unlike the US, stuck on eagles a

THE OBVERSE IS OBVIOUS

There is a better way! Hello Everyone, Why, all of a sudden, are we worried what eBay does? They just want the extra $0.15 for the second image. I will only use the obverse of my graded coins for sale. It has all the information, as well as the serial #. If eBay doesn't like it, I'll put it on eBid for free. If you are worried about a particular NGC or PCGS slab's authenticity, there is a place in both grading services to check any slab they have graded. NGC's is on the pulldown of grading a

THE MISSING LINK

Good things come to those that wait! Maybe Hey Everyone! Here is something that may help us all. I see a few drawbacks in selling lots of things, but I have a lot of abstract coins listed. 2010 PREZZIES ARE HERE!

I have some nice coins, but lousy imaging! Hi All! At least I tried and didn't obscure my set. My scanner is on vacation. It should be back today if I can get te error message to go bck to where it came from. My all-in-one did it, but what a lousy image for coins. Not to worry. I will somehow get up and running to get these beauties redone and looking better. I have my Canadians to image also.........whatta week this will be. Thanks to the powers that put my sets up front! Top in grade

The first in PF 69, but still #1 Hi all, I just got my 1st 1987 Loon proofs back. So far they top the chart. This isn't the greatest, but they do look good! Only a PF 70 can beat them. I'll take that seeing as how it is so hard to get any Canadian issue graded as perfect. I have more Canadian coins at NGC, but I don't even have to hope for a 70. All 69s are just fine. I have enough "perfect" coins to add this year. I can live with my lovely Canadians. Thanks to everyone that told me

WE MUST BE CLOSING IN ON JUDGEMENT DAY?

I never thought about this side of the coin. Hello All, A few last minute emails from friends and competitors alike. Thanks for wishing me luck, and to those, and everyone, I wish you all the best this year. A few brought up a category in which we do not enter, yet still get graded. It's the Journals. I answered........What??? With all that went down this last year, I'd probably be last in consideration. I do believe some changes were made after all. Maybe the journals did their part?
