About this journal

All bullion coins are minted at West Point, NY.  The S mint mark is a scam to make people think they are getting something special, at double, or triple the going price of a real Silver Eagle. In effect, the "S" coin is a phony, and doesn't have a place in the Registry. "Minted at" coins fall into the same category. The label can say anything they want.....even the Sheboygan Mint!

NGC removed the other coins, this one has to go also.

I too laid out hundreds of dollars only to have them erased, such  as the "2000 Millennium" ASE. Another gem that we "had" to have.  They won't pay   those coins we now have to eat.

THE OBVERSE IS OBVIOUS

There is a better way! Hello Everyone, Why, all of a sudden, are we worried what eBay does? They just want the extra $0.15 for the second image. I will only use the obverse of my graded coins for sale. It has all the information, as well as the serial #. If eBay doesn't like it, I'll put it on eBid for free. If you are worried about a particular NGC or PCGS slab's authenticity, there is a place in both grading services to check any slab they have graded. NGC's is on the pulldown of grading a

THE MISSING LINK

Good things come to those that wait! Maybe Hey Everyone! Here is something that may help us all. I see a few drawbacks in selling lots of things, but I have a lot of abstract coins listed. If you like it.....you'll like it. If you don't, it's another place to look when you cannot find it anywhere else. http://us.four.ebid.net/perl/normal.cgi?ref=760460&mo=register-main Good luck! You'll see me and a few others you may know in there. I hope this an alternative to expensive

THE LOST '"W" ?

Three years and............poof! I have acquired the 1999-2001-S clad Statehood quarter sets in PF 69 W Ultra Cameo. An S proof 69 W ? Apparently NGC gave this "extra" distinction for a white, or whiter, device on the mirrored field. I just bought the last of the 15 coins I needed to complete a Signature set. I did a clad set, and now I see that there are some in silver also. I added them to my regular Statehood quarter set, but the coins I already had, listed as better. I was hoping that

The journal that isn't!

I thought I would, and then I didn't.....then I did Hello everyone! My 1957 proofs are in the mail. Nothing great, but they will look nice with my other set. NGC imaging on these too! I got a 70 in my new Prezzies, but would have been happier with a 69 set. My 2008 set award certificates came. Thank you NGC!!! Everone that sent their coins in ahead of me, are now behind? How did they do that? It's a shame some dealers aren't as above board as they could be. I could have sent my own

THE EYES HAVE IT!!!

Do yours feel any better today? Hi everyone! Gee it's later than I thought. I have made a concerted effort to ease the eye strain of those that choose to check out my collection from time to time. Never once did I intend to distort your vision so my coins looked good. For those of you I have subjected to the less than adequate coin images, there is great news. My NEW scanner arrived late this morning. I toyed and tested for an hour or so. I had papamesa(new member) doing a critiqu

The elusive "W" statehood quarters

I know they are out there! Hello all! I have been fortunate enough to find a few more proof "W" designated state quarters. I am looking for silver mostly, and any clads in PF 70. I know there are 1999 silver proofs out there looking to get into my collection. I'd like to have 70s, but anything with six digits and the "W" are fair game. If you have any you might like to be rid of, I am all ears. I really don't want to pawn the Harley to get them, but I would like a fair price. NGC will

THE DESCRIPTION FITS THIS COIN?

I told you they don't know the difference either. Hi Everyone! I just couldn't resist this one too. Here's an ongoing(Australian)auction description. My eyes aren't seeing what my mind says I am reading. "Nice beginners rare variety coin. Oh so hard to obtain and frankly the higher grades are very difficult to tell. THAT'S IT - NO MORE!

Enough isn't enough......it's too much. Hello all! Well, the verdict is in. I cannot afford to send coins to be graded and have them either not graded as what they are, or body bagged. My KM13-A 1d, now, does not exist. There is a Registry slot for it though. My uncirculated 1934(out of a roll) New Zealand threepence with a double die crack, is neither cracked, nor any good. It looked like a proof coin when I sent it to them(NCS)for evaluation. Nope....excessive hair lines. I guess that me

THANKSGIVING NEVER ENDS

AFTER A PERFECT 10, I SETTLED FOR A PAIR OF NINE. I am so fortunate to have been able to obtain a goal. A little sacrifice paid off. I am proud to add 2 more #1 Sacagawea sets in the Registry. I am thankful to those who helped me acquire these fine coins. Like everyone else, I believe I have the best sets in the Registry. I am thankful to know I have, at least, a few good ones. Thank you all!

THANKS TO ALL !

So many friends, so little time. Hello all! I am overwhelmed by everyone's response. Friend and foe, alike. I have to add a few answers to everyone that asked for certain coins, or sets. If my collection sells before the Registry Awards, I will release everything for you to compete. I do not wish to break up this collection. The quicker I liquidate, the quicker I can get other plans rolling. To my friends out of the US, I wish I could sell to you, but customs would flag the collection

THANK YOU

It is possible after all. Thanks to the powers at NGC. I am happy with the correction, and pleased with the communications and time period it has taken. Sorry to snap at what some think as meaningless, but I do still have a flicker of passion for my sets. Competitions are just that. I compete against the fines collectors and friends in the world. I am proud to have the sets I have, and the friends that have come along with them. I am going back into my little corner until I am perplexed aga

TECHNICAL PROBLEM CAUSING INTERRUPTION IN SOME FUNCTIONALITY

Is it payback? Hello all! I guess if I can't get into the site, I can't see what they are doing to my coins. They'll all be graded and shipped before I can call them to complain. If they are so far behind, why won't they hire? I need a job. It's a good thing I read Dena's post. I thought for a minute she was talking about the graders. That's all folks

STRUCK AT????

You tell me Hello everyone, I have put the reverse of 2 ASE, NGC graded MS70. Can you tell me where they were struck? Good luck This is why we buy the mint out of the same coins. No one complains about the fraud. Happy Collecting P.S. Sorry.....I went off on this fraud 2 years ago. I happen to like my collection, we don't need over 2 coins though. One proof, and one mint state sufficed in the beginning. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be

STOP THE PRESSES!

I stand corrected Oooooops I just saw a silver PF 70 Connecticut quarter in NGC PF 70 W Ultra Cameo. Simply amazing! I humbly stand corrected. I'd like to thank the owner for bringing it to my attention.

Statehood Quarter Set

What does the "W" mean? I just got a 2000 S Clad Maryland quarter in NGC PF 69 W Ultra Cameo. I have another Maryland in NGC PF 69, but it doesn't have a "W". Is one better than the other? Does the "W" get a higher rating? I am new to all this, but I guess I should kbnow about this? Anyone? Thanks

SP IS NOT MS

The 2013 W SP is a variety coin of the American Silver Eagle. It has no place in an MS set, especially adding it 4 years after being minted. There is a category for the American Silver Eagle varieties. One day I have a 100% complete set, and next day I don't. All those bogus eagles that we had to have ( and paid premium prices for), are not included in the mint state collection, but as varieties. The P and S Eagles belong there too. Ever notice there are no NGC 2017 FDOI S Silver Eagles? Another

SOME NICE EMAIL

I follow Dilbert and coffee? Hi all, You guys are too nice. I am truly flattered. I am impressed that I am becoming a household tradition. Coffee,Dilbert, and NGC journals. I guess I have to compete with Dilbert? I really do appreciate all of you sending mail. A few have voiced concern about some matters. Everything will work out. To those asking about the changed label, I added the best image I can post in a journal. The coin that's on the label is strangely outside the slab. For t

So much for presale coins!

3 strikes.....you're out! Hello all! Am I upset with affluent coin dealers? Yup, at least one has ired me to a boil. When you have enough money to buy 200 silver Commemoratives at a time(Abe Lincoln in this case), you should be able to fulfill a presale promise. Right? I guess I have to loan them my hard earned funds for 30 days or more. No interest, no coins, and no communication? After 35 days I get an email that the coins arrived from the Mint. Woohoo. I am just a little guy sitt

SLOTS FOR THE NOTS

It was easier than one would expect. Hello everyone, I would like to take a moment, and a few words, to thank the staff at NGC. The minor glitch has been rectified, and life goes on, but not without a "Thank you" from me. I have slowed my collecting down to a crawl in the past few years. I am ridding my collections that are going nowhere. I would like to have just a few great sets. Thanks to NGC people for making it easy on us, to enjoy the hobby. I am hoping for a few score changes to

SLOTS AND NOTS!

No place to put some coins? There are collections and sets with slots for them, and the coins haven't been minted yet. There are also graded coins with no slot to put them into. Scores need to be updated also. Not complaining. Just an observation. Happy collecting! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Silver Eagle MS 69 set completed!

I have added the 2008 "error" Eagle to bring my set up to date Finally! I have completed a set of American Silver Eagles in NGC MS69. I went out of my way to have 3 2008 Eagles, but I guess it was necessary to be complete. I guess the proof set is next. Maybe I can compete this year?

SECURITY? - WHAT SECURITY?

There is no such thing........believe me Hello all!   The Holiday season is back. W.K.F. has a point. Everyone wants to have something nice. A few would go as far as trying to steal it. I am fortunate to only have a mere $60-$70K in my collection. My friends all know I have it (and where). My collection represents a major percentage of my net worth. If I were to lose it I'd be devastated. The coins in my small collection, are for me, my son, and my friends to admire. They are somewha

SANTA GOT HERE EARLY!

I can melt all my Eagles now. Hello everyone! We all collect metals taken from the Earth. What is done with them is quite amazing. I've had platinum and gold. I never had a silver bar. I've had aluminum and tin cans. I have worked all year on a pre-decimal penny set from NZ. I chose NZ as no one was interested in a few lousy half silver,cupro-nickel, and copper coins. Ebay had a half page of New Zealand coins and they were extremely cheap. I guess my passion for these unimportant sets caught

SAFE/PIPE/INTERCEPT SHIELD?

2 simple ways to protect your coins. Hi everyone! This will probably upset most. Bring a smile to some, and Get a few to actually do something. Method #1) Put all your coins in Intercept Shield boxes. Most people don't know what they are. Even most collectors. Leave the boxes on a bookshelf in you den or living room. No one will even be curious enough to ask. Method #2) Put all your coins in a tube, pipe, or heavy safe. Put them into a small room as a den playroom etc. Replace

ROTATED DIE ERRORS?

What amount of rotation does it take to qualify? I have a few 2006 Franklin Scientist Commems in mint state. The reverse is not square to the obverse. I would like to know how rotated it has to be to qualify as a mint error? Does anyone have a Franklin with this mint error? I have asked several local dealers and collectors, but no 100% positive answer. The set I have registered has a pretty square obverse in comparison. I attached a scan of the typical rotation. Is it considered an error?
