About this journal

All bullion coins are minted at West Point, NY.  The S mint mark is a scam to make people think they are getting something special, at double, or triple the going price of a real Silver Eagle. In effect, the "S" coin is a phony, and doesn't have a place in the Registry. "Minted at" coins fall into the same category. The label can say anything they want.....even the Sheboygan Mint!

NGC removed the other coins, this one has to go also.

I too laid out hundreds of dollars only to have them erased, such  as the "2000 Millennium" ASE. Another gem that we "had" to have.  They won't pay   those coins we now have to eat.

PAUL IS ONE OF MANY QUITTERS!

FeeBay is a losing proposition Hi all! Just a short addendum to Paul's journal. A few of us abandoned FeeBay almost 2 months ago. We aren't looking back. I paid the $49.99 for a lifetime of free listings and no FV fees. You may list in several ways and get up to 5 images, per listing, as Paul said. Free T shirt too! Personally I have had more good sales, with no fees I didn't ask for. I have a lot more people looking too. Here's the link to see or join: http://us.ebid.net/perl/norma

A WHOLE YEAR!

and 3 days Hello fellow collectors! It's a year for me too! Plus a few days, but who's counting. Just remember one thing.......it's all your fault. Every member of this Society is to blame for my addiction to this hobby. A year ago I started to enter a few NGC graded Silver Eagles and my PF 70 2006 Franklin Commems. It was a great place to keep my meager sets in order and an excellent "offsite" data base. As a few of you remember(and some wish to forget)I became a paying member a whi

THE DESCRIPTION FITS THIS COIN?

I told you they don't know the difference either. Hi Everyone! I just couldn't resist this one too. Here's an ongoing(Australian)auction description. My eyes aren't seeing what my mind says I am reading. "Nice beginners rare variety coin. Oh so hard to obtain and frankly the higher grades are very difficult to tell. Called burnished as the flan was specially treated in the Royal London Mint to ensure that the pennies would be dull black to discourage people from hoarding in the World

A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS?

I see experts are like playoffs. Don't get me started on playoffs. Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a happy, and safe 4th. I tried a week ago to query the braintrust of the Society, and I am still as baffled as before. HELP!!! I recently acquired a box of pre-decimal New Zealand coins. There are a few 1945 pennies. I'd like to send them to NGC for grading, however, there is also a slot for the 1945 "burnished flan" coin? How does one tell the difference? KM#s are 13 and 13A. I can

ANOTHER COMPLETE SET TO NGC!

A lot of bucks for a possible 42 point set? Hi everyone! 42 points is the lowest they'll grade. It's a 14 coin circulated series. I was going through some sets of world coins and realized some slots could be filled by some that I have amassed. I had to buy a few to get the set complete.(I have learned to accept whatever grades I get), but at least it will be 100%. I will be replacing my 1960 1c large date soon. I kept the one I had as a not so fond memory and a wasted grading. Sacs d

PENNY ON A FENCEPOST

Third time is always a charm! Hi everyone! Well, I totally vented this morning. My PF 63, 1960 LD, Lincoln, 1C is gone!!! I admired that coin so much, I put it out of my misery on the third shot. At my age I guess shaking is bound to happen. Still not bad for 100 yards........and my Eagle. Oh.....it used to be the coin on the right in a former journal..... Congrats to those with the correct answer! Not to worry though. I bought 5 more PF 70s to submit. I guess grading

WHAT A WAY TO START THE WEEK

I know times are bad, but c'mon!!! Hello everyone! Well, to start things off, my mail lady left a note in the box Saturday morning. It said she missed me at home. She did? I was up at 06:00 and waited for her until noon. Zip, zilch, nothing, nada! She never showed. I have to wait until Monday morning! It was only a few commemorative coins for my sets from 2001-2003. They have never been opened, and they should get good grades. I got them and opened the package.........2 out of the

WALMART IS THE PLACE!

The mint works in strange and mysterious ways. Hi Collectors! I personally could care less about the new coins. I have had a few ask me about them , and I've told them that our(upstate NY)banks will not order the new coinage. They don't need it. The only place I have received anything new is WalMart. Yup!!!!! the biggest cash flow in today's economy. NGC has a paragraph about it too. As most of you know, I am hot on the proof Sacs. These were to replace the paper note in 2000-2001

NGC IMAGING - UPDATED

I am glad to see it's not just me having trouble! Hello everyone! I have been trying to see my 1960 large date Lincoln 1c with the NGC verification tab. All I get for 3 days is image is not available. I thought they may not have imaged it. When the Sacs were done I looked to see them and they all looked great! Now nothing!.....There are no images available at all. My scanner is out on loan for a week while another collector catches up with his coins. That's my fault for being Mr. Ni

1960 LARGE DATE 1C

Even a 67 would have been great! Hi all! I sent a very nice graded cent to NGC for grading. It was done already by a well known third party grading company. People buy their coins every day! I got it for $2.50. I said to myself.......Self....why not? So I did. I cracked out a 70 and hoped for a 68. Losing 2 grades is to be expected even with a very nice specimen. As you can see, I was wrong. I will have 2 options when I get it in hand. Laugh until I cry, or throw it in the "Goodwill box"

ADD ME TO THE RANKS OF DISSENTERS!

Today totally wiped out yesterday......obliterated it! Hi all! Time for me to vent! I cracked out a PF70 and sent it in for grading. It is now a PF 63. Oh well! I just got my "overnighted" package from the US Mint of the 2009 Proofs. If they were sent overnight.......why are they just getting here a day before my graded sets? Oh, I forgot, it's the US Mint. I opened the package and then the box. My bad!!!! The Sac is scratched and has a finger print on both sides. The pennies look ha

TODAY IS MY CLAIM TO FAME DAY!

A "PERFECT" 11? Hello everyone! WOW! Are sets going crazy today. NGC has released a lot of the new proofs, and everyone is buying them up to complete their sets. Me too! I have gone almost a whole year, waiting to see what was happening to my "Perfect 10" Sacagawea sets". I never figured on the 2009 to be a "Sacagawea". However.......it was slotted into the set, and will drive me to the poorhouse! Being fortunate to have made a few friends, I have added this newest coin to my exis

Environmental Damage PartII

Can you ever be sure? Hi everyone! I was just looking to see if all my latest submissions made 70s, when I saw cvcc's journal. I guess it happens to everyone sooner or later. I have done what I can to prevent environmental damage. These slabs, regardless of grading company, are not perfect. They do a fine job of physically protecting the coin, but airborne contaminants are just that. They infiltrate places nothing else can go. I see 2009 coins already toning in slabs.....why? They are

Top in grade

The first in PF 69, but still #1 Hi all, I just got my 1st 1987 Loon proofs back. So far they top the chart. This isn't the greatest, but they do look good! Only a PF 70 can beat them. I'll take that seeing as how it is so hard to get any Canadian issue graded as perfect. I have more Canadian coins at NGC, but I don't even have to hope for a 70. All 69s are just fine. I have enough "perfect" coins to add this year. I can live with my lovely Canadians. Thanks to everyone that told me

A DAY LATE AND A.............?

Few COAs short! Hello everyone! Here I thought I was doing everything right. I filled out the submission forms with everything needed to adequately convey my submission to the actual/eventual graded slab. I just happened to omit: The Certificate of Authenticity!!! Some Canadian coins have a serial number on the COA. Can everyone in unison say DUH??? Thank goodness a fax is somewhat faster than snailmail. My coins arrived, and they should mate up tomorrow or the next day. The next

a top pop coin and more Hello everyone! The results are in. My 1987 Canada Proof Loon made PF 69 Ultra Cameo. According to the census, it is the best .....so far. My day was really made because I have them all. They just finalized today. WOOOOOOHOOOO! I will have images when they get here. NGC has the images in the data base. I even started a set. The rest are going to auction for future submissions. I would have liked one 70, but these are just fine. I wish my others would be so

2009 PROOF SET DAY!!

Finally! Hi Everyone Well, it's finally that happy day again. More sets to NGC! WOOOOOHOOOOO Pennies, and dollars, and Sacs and..........you name it! Hopefully all my Sacs will come back with a FDOI pedigree? Good luck to everyone that is submitting the flood of new metal into the economy. I wish NGC sold stock! I guess this is the "change" we were promised? My Loons aren't done yet, and the next wave is already there. Hopefully I will get a few 70s to complete my sets. Hopefu

What's in a grade?

My Lancaster is nicer than your Braille Hello everyone! I just got my Canadian coin back, and is it a beauty? WOW! It is so nice, I can say it is even nicer than MY PF69 Braille. Only 19 more to make a set, but anything is possible. To those that questioned my intensity with the Sacagawea sets, I say......I have diversified! Canadian proofs match anything we do. They even do holograms and pure gold (plated) cameos. Most of these are very limited also. Mintage on most is less than

THE MISSING LINK

Good things come to those that wait! Maybe Hey Everyone! Here is something that may help us all. I see a few drawbacks in selling lots of things, but I have a lot of abstract coins listed. If you like it.....you'll like it. If you don't, it's another place to look when you cannot find it anywhere else. http://us.four.ebid.net/perl/normal.cgi?ref=760460&mo=register-main Good luck! FEEBAY MAY HAVE MET IT'S MATCH!

Want to list your coin auctions for free? Hello everyone! I found a place to go. Yes, there is a fee for the top perks, but feebay has no perks. It has become a place to plop your hard earned investment to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Listing fees, subtitle fees, 1 free photo, gallery fees, highlight fees.......had enough yet? No, you say??? How about the hefty "final value fee"? Next comes the "PayPal Only" coin transaction? Give me a break!( I kept it clean) I cannot

QUALITY CONTROL?

I wish I had that job. Hello everyone! I just got two boxes from NGC. My little proof set(1960), and a few Canadian in the other. I got my 1c slab back with a gouge in the face of the slab. My Canadian, a hologram, has abrasion(slight) over the hologram. I guess when you try to get your coins preserved, and presentable, you need to send them in to be reslabbed a few times until it is right? No kudos for quality control today. Am I the only one starting to see this? Have a great day!

In Retrospect

A few here.....a few there! Hello everyone! Not an overwhelming week by any means. I did get MS 66 on the new HABS Canadians. I also sent two proofs to PCGS, and seven went to NGC. I have a $50 Cook Island coin I'd like to send in. It looks perfect to me on both sides. I think the graders are either lacking something on world coins, or there's a prejudice concerning superior quality. A 70 is almost non-existent. Anyway, I take what they give me. There are no price guides to compare diffe

BRAILLES.......50/50

My pair is finalized today.......good and bad! Hi all! I just got the results for my pair of Braille Commemoratives. MS69 and PF 69 Ultra Cameo. Not bad considering I thought the proof was a 70 and the uncirculated a 68. The census says there are more 70s than 69s, but i just added to the lower numbers. I put them into my set for now. I can wait until the 70s come down to $60, and grab the pair to upgrade. Everything else I sent was MS65. I hope my world coins do better. I alread

Green Holder Info Site - NGC & PCGS and many more

This may be of help to everyone......sooner or later? Hello everyone! I was browsing through some grading questions, looking for a pricing list on World coins. I found something that may help identify slabs and their evolution. Just go to www.sampleslabs.com. If you don't find what you are looking for there, you may get more ideas for research. I hope this might help some. You must click on the grading company to the left to view all slabs. Good Luck and Happy collecting!
