About this journal

All bullion coins are minted at West Point, NY.  The S mint mark is a scam to make people think they are getting something special, at double, or triple the going price of a real Silver Eagle. In effect, the "S" coin is a phony, and doesn't have a place in the Registry. "Minted at" coins fall into the same category. The label can say anything they want.....even the Sheboygan Mint!

NGC removed the other coins, this one has to go also.

I too laid out hundreds of dollars only to have them erased, such  as the "2000 Millennium" ASE. Another gem that we "had" to have.  They won't pay   those coins we now have to eat.

NEXT YEAR?

With a turn around time (Modern) of 45 days, my submission will arrive next year. Between the Mint taking 2 weeks to ship, the Post Office taking almost 2 weeks to deliver(first class), First and Early releases can be forgotten. I see the times have been shortened by over a week....I'm hopeful.  I'd be happy with the coins, truthfully. Good Luck everyone!

10 SILVER EAGLES AND COUNTING?

In 1986, I started an American Silver Eagle set for my son to inherit someday. I started with the MS set and my first coin was purchased from TV sales. After a few years, I was able to start a proof set, and the collection expanded. I have been fortunate enough to maintain these sets through the years, but not without losing coins due to slot eliminations in the Registry. Everyone had to have the 2000 "Millennium" slab. Now it's history. A few others also. Now sets are being created for reverse

OWNER COMMENTS

Every time I receive a new addition, I fill out all of the form, including owner comments on the registered coin. Reviewing my #1 set is has slipped to #2. How? I check, and the owner comments have been deleted. For 20 minutes I have tried to edit it and replace the missing comment. I fill in the box, hit save, and absolutely nothing. Anyone have a clue? Maybe it's got a virus?

REAL OR FAKE?

I am not a collector of Morgans. I have no clue, other than weight and sound, to check authenticity. I found this coin in a sub floor.  I am hoping it is good, but won't be disappointed if it's a fake. Thank you

FIRST DAY OF ISSUE LABEL?

I was fortunate enough to have purchased the 2019 enhanced SAE  on opening day. I sent it in sealed mint packaging for the FDOI label and the COA number.  I am now told I cannot get a FDOI label. Why? If there was a 1 per household limit, did dealers send these in bulk to obtain one? Here is just one listing from a familiar place:  “2019 S SILVER EAGLE REVERSE ENHANCED NGC PF 70 FIRST DAY OF ISSUE 5826281-003 OGP AND COA INCLUDED” More than 10 available? I rest my case.

ONLY DAY OF ISSUE LABEL?

Now that the rush to obtain the coveted 2019 "S" "Enhanced" Reverse proof Silver Eagle lasted less than 15 minutes to sell out, there should be a new label? "ONLY DAY OF ISSUE",  xx,xxx of 30,000 should be added to the slab. Any thoughts?  I will be submitting mine for FDOI,  and the have the number that is assigned added.

THIS IS BECOMING ALL TOO COMMON!

When I first started collecting the $20 Canadian silver coins, I was told NGC would not grade the "snowflake" issues. They contain crystals that may come loose and therefore are not gradable. My how times have changed. Now the "catch phrase seems to be "colored outside the mint" I am out  good deal of time and money for this excuse to grade a coin that is submitted with a COA, and charged for no grading, or encapsulation. Limited numbers are being plated or colorized, and many more to come. Our

COLORED COINS

I have sent a few colored silver Ghana coins to be graded, with the COA, yet they cannot be graded according to NGC policy.  See what you think? The reply: Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we are not able to grade coins that have been colored or altered in any way after being produced from the mint per our grading policy. The alterations may have an effect on the metal and therefore we cannot guarantee the grade and condition of the coin. Thank you I rest my case.

Coin Grading

When you submit coins for grading, it asks MS or PF. There is no PL, RP, SP SRP space.. If we are to go by the old standards, a PL coin is an MS base. An SP coin seems to be both, MS and PF. Now we have reverse proof(RP), and Special reverse Proof (SRP?) Colorized, antiqued, plated, and a host of types that are emerging in almost every Country, and will be here soon. I started a set to find out that only 1 coin, out of the 10-15 that I sent to be graded, will have a slot in any collection.

MISSING AWARD

At the deadline for entering coins for the awards, I had the #1 Proof Presidential set in the Registry. No mention of it in the downloads section. I also had the #2 set at the end, for this year, yet that was only close. Someone got an undeserved award, and I still am near the top. Collecting this set was a passion. There was only one top set. I tried.

SP IS NOT MS

The 2013 W SP is a variety coin of the American Silver Eagle. It has no place in an MS set, especially adding it 4 years after being minted. There is a category for the American Silver Eagle varieties. One day I have a 100% complete set, and next day I don't. All those bogus eagles that we had to have ( and paid premium prices for), are not included in the mint state collection, but as varieties. The P and S Eagles belong there too. Ever notice there are no NGC 2017 FDOI S Silver Eagles? Another

No "S" Silver Eagles!

There are no bullion coins minted in San Francisco......period. They mint them at West Point and fly them to California. Please remove it. It is as phony as the "minted at" coins we "had" to have and paid a premium for. NGC pulled the last round of Eagles because it cannot substantiated, by fact, where the coins are minted. West Point does bullion.

SLOTS FOR THE NOTS

It was easier than one would expect. Hello everyone, I would like to take a moment, and a few words, to thank the staff at NGC. The minor glitch has been rectified, and life goes on, but not without a "Thank you" from me. I have slowed my collecting down to a crawl in the past few years. I am ridding my collections that are going nowhere. I would like to have just a few great sets. Thanks to NGC people for making it easy on us, to enjoy the hobby. I am hoping for a few score changes to

SLOTS AND NOTS!

No place to put some coins? There are collections and sets with slots for them, and the coins haven't been minted yet. There are also graded coins with no slot to put them into. Scores need to be updated also. Not complaining. Just an observation. Happy collecting! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

MISSING COIN?

I count 7. NGC counts 6? I count 7 coins in my Second Kennedy Anniversary set of half dollars. The score is as a number 1 set. The Grades are also. Collecting used to be fun, it has become less now that the US Mint has gone haywire. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

50th Quarter in the ATB set

Is it Colorado? When the Mint and the Parks Department promise to give each school child a "new" coin for attending, it was supposed to be the Battle of Saratoga quarter. The plastic capsules o one little girl contained a Colorado Statehood quarter. A few dealers said it was the worst introduction they had ever been to. Everyone had to drive to the local Post Office for stamping. Another inconvenience. I believe someone should make good on the promise of the new "50th" coin. The Mint is defini

Reverse Proofs in Presidential sets?

After 36 coins the Mint does this Reverse proofs do not belong in the Presidential Dollar Proof Set. They are a variety, and should have their own category. Trying to get a set now will be next to impossible. Collecting is supposed to be fun and relaxing, not cost prohibitive. I can see the Sacagawea set getting the same treatment after all these years. The Silver Eagle sets needed milleneum coons and others, now they are gone. Please take reverse proof and make them another category. To see

NGC makes #2 sets so others can get on top?

I had the best set for years NGC plays with sets to get others on top. All of a sudden a set or two is missing a description. I lost my complete #1 New Zealand set for the same reason. Politics in numismatics. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

A QUICK QUESTION

NGC HAS THE SETS AND I HAVE SOME COINS With the newest 2015 Marshall's 225th Commemorative issues out. I see no slots for them. It is a 6 coin set, and no slots. There are 2 halves, 2 one dollar, and 2 gold. No spot for all six together either? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

TWO NEW MS EAGLES?

One Eagle is "Struck at West Point" and has no W. The other is struck at West Point, and has none either? All gold and silver is minted at West Point. Nowhere else. Period! Just a way to sell more coins at a inflated price. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

STRUCK AT????

You tell me Hello everyone, I have put the reverse of 2 ASE, NGC graded MS70. Can you tell me where they were struck? Good luck This is why we buy the mint out of the same coins. No one complains about the fraud. Happy Collecting P.S. Sorry.....I went off on this fraud 2 years ago. I happen to like my collection, we don't need over 2 coins though. One proof, and one mint state sufficed in the beginning. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be

CANS OF WORMS

I've gone fishin' Yes, I opened a can of worms. Don't I always seek the truth and correctness in our hobby? I do it for myself, but I also try to make it right for the others that get a bad deal. Hopefuly Scott's set will be where he should be soon. I explained it to her and I hope she now understands how we feel. I'm hoping this will be the last of the last minute slot availability from NGC, but there is no new Sac slot, and the coins are out. Hasta la vista my friends To see old com
