About this journal

I was born in Iceland and came to the U.S. when I was three years old and started collecting U.S. coins when I was eleven years old and I have been hooked ever since. I started collecting Icelandic coins in 2003 with the intention of collecting all the coins from the Kingdon Era 1922 to 1942 in high grades of MS-63 or better.

Won My 1929 1 Krona PCGS 63 Best Known

It was getting a little nerve racking I put a absentee bid on Ebay for the 1929 1 krona and watched it live on Ebay ready to bid again if it went over that amount i placed. The scary part was when i placed my cursor on the bid now button it went to the (I) form which, i think meant that i was not going to be able to bid again NOOOOOoooooo. But it didn't reach my maximum bid . I am truly a coin junkie I always knew i was. anyone out there got a Valium. Well I hope everyone out there has good lu

What are the journals really for ,not a forum for legal battles

He Needs a lawyer not the collectors society's forum He made his point with his first entry about this auction house , which i enjoyed reading about. But lost interest after the second entry because it sounded to me that he was on a mission to destroy a auction house that he had a bad experience with. He should of made it short and sweet and to the point. Now being the auction house that they are and NGC being affiliated with them, he brought the possible chance of ruining this forum for every

Waiting for the NGC gods to smile upon me

Ten Days To Go Two days ago I sent in the three Icelandic coins that I got this past month. Two of the three coins I got in the new york show this month and the other I won on ebay, they listed as a 1939 1 eyrir as a large three over a small three, now i know according to a web site that list's a icelandic coin collection that this man has. And in this listing of coins there is a 1938 large three over small three but no 1939 large three over small three. Since there is very little info out the

Unbelievable

What a bunch of insufficiently_thoughtful_person's I was watching a ebay listing for a 1959 1 Krona that was graded by PCGS at MS-65 sell for over $39.00. what kind of person has a $3.00 coin graded by PCGS and tries to sell it on ebay and expect someone to pay that kind of money or more for it unless that person has a few people bidding on it for him/her (Plishing The Bid)in Hopes a person like me will be willing to pay that kind of money for it,,,Yeah Right ,,,not in this life time since I h

To Conserve Or Not To Conserve

Is It better to remove the tiny spot or not From my last entry of my journal I mentioned a coin a 1925 1 krona that was in beautiful unc condition. what i failed to say is that this coin even though it has a wonderful chartwheel, but seems a little dull to me and i think that maybe a little conservation may help it along to a possible MS-66 and or better. And having a brass coin from Iceland that I sent to NGC last summer for grading that came back a MS-62 with note attached to it saying that

The Heart Aches of Coin Collecting

Just Checked NGC POP Report Now After reading the new report for coins graded by NGC for Iceland. I became depressed over what I seen .....A complete set of 1940 proof coins which I have been searching for in the past six years of collecting Icelandic coins from the Kingdom Era 1926-1942. NGC had at one Time graded all but the 1 Eyrir before I started this collection and hoped that they would show up at some point, that never came. Last year in July a 1940 and a 1946 proof sets came up for auc

The 2022 100 Year Anniversary of Iceland's First Coins As A Nation

One hundred years ago in 1922 Iceland issued there first ever partial set of legal tender coins the 10 and 25 Aurar's.  With a growing nation that was in desperate need for coinage because all the coins used up to that time was from other nation's like Denmark, Norway or they would use tokens that was issued by large merchants companies that was either based in Iceland or Denmark and even the Faroe Islands. Iceland banned the use of tokens prior to 1922 because merchants can manipulate the cost

RE. My heart wasnt broken

Stunned The 1925 1 Krona i sent to NGC and got the grade of MS-62 that floored me , this is a god like coin MINE compared to the one that is graded a MS-64 By NGC. I know the man that has this so called 64 and I have high grade pic's of the coin and in the NGC holder. Well if his is a 64, mine is a 69 which, will never happen for this type of coin from this year 1925 1 Krona. I missed the post office by 5 minutes so i am going to have to wait till tomorrow morning. I'm hoping its a error i

RE. Broken Heart

No End In Site Well i got my coins from the post office this morning. And called NGC and explained to them why i don't agree with the grade and they said to send it in for a regrade and that the scratches are polishing marks that only can be seen with a 15x power loop or higher they told me that they use a 5x loop well i told them that they may appear as scratches not polishing marks as i only can tell with a 17x loop ,now they will charge me another 32.00 dollars for a regrade plus shipping a

RE:OK Just exactly

The future of Coin Grading RAM-VT Journal entry has sparked some ideas of want the grading system will be like in the future. I can remember as a kid looking at both the Redbook and the Bluebook and only seeing the one price for any coin in UNC only. The dealers back then would have a higher price's for those coins if they were better then most and even higher price for those that showed exceptional quality of preservation. Its always been a dealers game even before the Sheldon's scale was put

RE: Rare?

That's a journal entree Well I must say that PSL journal entree was one of the most interesting one I have reading in a long time. It showed to me what the journals are really meant for, the study of numismatics. I commend him and I hope more people will bring these types of numismatics journals to this forum. I would love to hear more stories like this. Its what makes it all worth while. Thanks PSL Keep it coming

RE: My Year End Review For 2009

Result's of The NCS/NGC Submission of Icelandic Proofs 1958 to 1962 First i would like to share my lose of my mother on January 31 of 2010 from cancer. We had a beautiful funeral for her with so many people attending that i didn't have a clue to who some of them were. I felt the need to share this in my journal because it was my mother who first sparked a interest in coins by giving me a old silver standing liberty quarter back in the mid-60's. She was born in Iceland on December 11, 1934 and

RE: I Finally Found A Icelandic 1925 2 Kronur

What A Disappointment But All Good Things Comes To Those Who Wait About two weeks ago I received my auction lot I won on August 15th which had a 1925 2 Kronur in it, Which looked really nice and I thought it would grade an AU but when I held the coin in hand it looked horrible to say the least. I guess the auction house must have used some kind of scanner that left a lot of the detail out of the surface of the coin that made it look so much better then it was,,,I was really amazed at the diffe

RE: A loss beyond words

So very sorry. I am so very very sorry for your lose of your son. This would not have beeen something that i ever would have expected to read in the journals today. You must be a very strong person to be able to share your terrible lose with your fellow collectors. Please accept my most sincere condolences to you and your family. The coin you picked is a beautiful coin for your son. I'm sure he will love it.

Re NCS

Cleaning coins Its been a while since my last boring journal about Icelandic coins. This time its about the cleaning of coins. First NCS does not clean coins. That is a term that was used by people years back to describe coins that has been cleaned in someway that is dedectable at first glance. I have been around coins for over fourty years and I have seen some beautiful coins in my time. Many years back before cleaning became a issue a number of dealers I new all told me that 90% of the sil

RE Jason Von Dinger

You make a good point but I agree with some of the things Jason says about ebay but not all ebay dealers are bad coin dealers. There are some really good honest people out there like for one person i deal with from iceland. I won this coin i sent for gradeing for a two day service and it came back to me about two weeks later go figure with the hurricane. well the seller took back the coin and gave me the $50 bucks for the gradeing cost now this is a ebay dealer that has a wonderfull way to do

RE is now the time

unfortunatly it is The way things are going for may collectors in todays economy people have to sell thier collections. Well if you are one of the people that have not been affected then its time to buy. But if you are looking to invest in coins then thier is a time proven way of doing this and that is to invest in the U.S. major key date coins. I have read many articals and books over the fourty years of collecting and the best is your key dates these have over the years have proven to be yo

Re Apologize

Hard Times We live in uncertain times that can be very scary for many of us and praying for good fortune is not something uncommon for any one of us, we all have done this in the past for many reasons we can not even fathom. So what he asked for your prays, He was just reaching out for help, For what ever reason he had. When I first read his journal about this I thought to myself that it was odd to ask people to pray that he gets 70's on some if not all of the coins he submitted to NGC and the

NO MORE PCGS GRADED COINS IN THE NGC SETS

WHATS HAPPENING I HAVE NOT BEEN AROUND FOR SOME TIME NOW AND JUST ABOUT A HOUR AGO I READ A JOURNAL BY A MEMBER HERE SAYING THAT NO MORE PCGS COINS WILL BE ALOUD IN ANY OF THE SETS AND ABOUT THE HIGH COST OF HAVING THERE COINS GRADED BY NGC COMPARED TO PCGS. I FELT IN THE PAST THAT NGC HAS GONE A BIT OVERBOARD WITH THEIR FEE'S MAKING ME THINK THAT I WOULD BE MUCH BETTER OFF GOING TO PCGS AND ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THIS IS THAT NGC SEEMS TO BE CHANGING THERE STANDARD FOR GRADING WORLD COINS. i
