About this journal

Friends,

As of first ---- 15 years ago or so we had a FRIENDS list available on our member home page.  A few years ago the FRIENDS were changed to FOLLOWERS by the NGC group.

Now there is not even a followers list on our home page.  Is this Followers list coming back?? Seems the club is moving more and more towards unsocial practices.

Use to be a member could post their journal from their private member page. Now they have to go to Chat Boards to do so. I don't mind it but I know that many members do not use the chat boards. Will there be a link later to post journals from the member page?

MY SET SELLING TEST EXPERIMENT

What would a dealer offer you? Friends; I read all the hoopla of I need to sell and I wondered what if I had to sell? Well if you have a great set (good luck) It dose not matter where you are in the ranks Your coins are gray sheeted. So if you are thinking of selling your "pride & joy" first check on the crappiest price you will get offered = gray sheet value. If you think people would go overboard to purchase your coins (they would have your coins at the same grade already). So as a perso

My points didn't change

AND HERE'S MY 2 CENTS WORTH Friends, I have read enough, I have 2 pennies of which no points were added, or taken away. 1 large cent and 1 wheat. Collectors Society Police (NGC) need to go back 1 week and push the redo button. The points system is fine the way it was "IT AIN'T BROKE" leave it alone. If someone purchases a rare coin I am sure it already has a points value. If you are wanting 10,000 points for your rare coin I say (go buy some more coins) and leave the system alone. We al

My new TURKEYS have arived

This is the 2nd 100%%%% this week Friends I was overjoyed as I loaded the new coins in my Silver Eagle set. Pulling them up one by one out of their NGC boxes to download into the set. All the slabs in pristine condition as if nobody has ever touched them. Todd sure took great care of them. At the end of the 2 NGC boxes of MS Eagles was 1 extra = 1986 PF69UC a gift from Todd that will be very appreciated and added to the other proof I have = 2006w (my new mini set PF-UC. My Latest Loss

A little reverse psychology on collecting!! Hey friends, Well this week ended up in a trade with another member. I have been working on 1979 proof set a couple years now. Only missing a few keepers to complete I traded a sweet 1988 Lincoln PF70rdUC for a 1979 25c Type 2 70UC and some cash. As this is a farewell to the Lincoln I decided to post a pic for perfection. Good Bye and Enjoy To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

MY LAST IKE

An Eisenhower won't even get ya a cup of joe Friends; I went through my coins Monday and sent my last ungraded survival kit off to auction. Indian head pennies, proof sets, silver nickles and my altered surface Morgan Dollars. When I stuffed the box there was one 1976 Ike sitting there in a plastic pouch. Well I don't think the auction house would know what to do with one Ike ungraded so I slipped it in my pocket. Tuesday I went to the local convenience store for coffee, pulled out

My Heritage Winnings showed up today

Funny how plans to add a top pop can change over the weekend. Friends and Society, I recently informed everyone that a sweet Roosevelt 1981-D MS68FT was on it's way to a new home. At the time I thought my house was the home right??? Well when Todd Peters got home and went through all the e-mails and read up on journals he sent me a message asking me to keep a eye out for another one. WHAT? I replied. With only 10 coins in NGC slabs I would be eligible to play the lottery and win a few bu

My Gratitude and Thanks!!!

What a QUICK TURNAROUND Friends, I did a journal yesterday on variety dimes and expressed a thought that was in my mind in the 2nd paragraph. I had asked for a few dimes to help complete TPETERS set. Of course I knew a couple might help in a couple days or so. WOW what a great bunch of collectors!!! There were guys searching E-Bay and even PCGS dealers searching in the PCGS club. It's is a scholar showing that all of you performed and my thanks goes out to you all. In less than 24 hours the

My Coin Pal is Back Home!!

A Journal on FRIENDSHIP due to COINS!! Hey Guys, Well it was really nice to finally get a e-mail from TPETERS last night letting me know he was back home from a 2 week stay with family and friends for his sons graduation. The time was not really that long but when your coin bud does not have a laptop to keep in touch the time seems doubled. We usually e-mail once or twice a week discussing different posts and coins of course. I sold around 24 of his proof coins listed on my page for sale w

My big Morgans will leave tomarrow.

AND THE NEW SET BEGINS Friends, The last 5 nice Morgans in my set will go tomorrow or Tuesday to Steve Twitty of P-Q Dollars. The only high grade morgan left belongs to Audrop (Dan),after over 8 weeks we are still waiting on the mail for that purchase. 3 to 5 more weeks and he can get another cashiers check and we will try it again. I have used different resources and think I have figured out a way to build a full set without breaking the bank this time. And of course the economy didn't hel

MY "FIRST" NGC TOP POP

Roosie ---2007D--- MS68 Friends, With a little extra time today and needing pics for the dimes in the sales sets on my page I started shooting pics. I am going to enter all the pics without slab view but I took a full slab view for a pic of my first NGC top pop coin graded. This is the only MS68 with none higher. MY PR69 DCAM Sacajawia Dollars are completely up to date

PAID FOR 3 BUT RECEIVED 5 Friends, I recently asked a friend in the society if he had any PR69 DCAM Sacajawea Dollars extra for sale, I needed 5. I got a return e-mail offering me 3 coins at a fair price, so I sent the check.   I had honestly forgotten the purchase with all the other things going on right now. I went up to my office and opened the box and COOL he finished my set for me. This is the first set I have ever had listed at 100%%%%%%. THANKS-NAMVETTE68 for the extra coins.

MORE COINS---MORE COINS---MORE COINS---MORE COINS

Time to fill another collection box. Friends, I have a couple sets 100% and a bunch of sets 1% to 10%. Each set has it's own holding box after it reaches 5 coins or more. I have gone out on a limb and grabbed a nest full of Silver Eagle Proofs. All are 69s and 1 70 yep EARLY RELEASE = the special egg. It will be refreshing to add a new box to my stash. Currently own 2 Silver Eagle proofs but will add 16 or more by the end of the month and get these turkeys looking ready for flight. HAPPY

MODERN COMMEMORATIVES

Which would be the best picks? Friends, I am working on a Type set that needs only 1 modern issue comm. coin in it. I would like to put the best looking detail and artistry coin I can purchase. The set will go to my grandchildren and I don't want a dog coin in that slot. The slot is for $1 coin but the 50c MS70 carries more points. I do not know which coins of the modern commemorative set are the top picks for their overall beauty but I figured some of you that have full sets or close could

Modern Commemorative Half Dollars

Just what collectors were they intended for Friends, I have purchased and sold very many Modern Commemorative half dollars but never bought any mint wrapper sets. There are many sets built by us that are from already graded coins and I was surprised to get the mint package ones that came this weekend. For the collectors that build these sets I thought a pic of mint packaged sets would be interesting. Below is a pic of 4 Modern Commemorative half dollar coins in a mint wrapper that were int

Modern Coins and spots

Silver Eagles with milk spots "Quick Fix" Friends, We have heard quite a few complaints on coins purchased beautiful but spotted after placed in their safe a few years. Sometimes we don't have the time to pull the coins out and check them and when we do they are spotted. Most blame it on the safe and humidity or whatever. Well the fix for that is NCS for preservation of the coins. Some of the best collections in museums get spotted and are preserved on a regular basis. I found a good rea

May be my first coin purchase of the year

Graded-ANA-PNG? Friends, I have been e-mailing someone on a full set of ASE's graded by NGC. I did ask the grades and was told they were ANA & PNG (go figure). I will meet them tomarrow to see what they are graded at and if they are 70's they will be my first purchase this year. It will be nice to have some coins besides Morgans in my safe to admire. Making More Room

Trades,Trades and more Trades Friends, As I usually get a box of mint sets, proof and circulated coinage from the Cash for Silver and Gold store the pile was getting pretty high. I have sold a few and done a few trades on clusters of 15 sets or so. It's not the regular trading of usual for slabbed coins but it does work well trading the sets for raw morgans, peace dollars and cash. My latest trade was 5 Silver Proof sets of which I traded for scrap silver; Morgans, Walkers, Franklins, and a

LOW BUDGET COINS

There is always a way to add a few. Friends, I have wanted a flying eagle cent since I saw one. Lately there are not very many people purchasing coins for sale. Well I mean not very many people wanting to pay the value or close. So the coin purchasing bank is nearly empty as I have done a few trades at FMV that were more acceptable than selling at 30% off (not gonna happen here). I was working today and a old dealer/collector came in and asked me if I wanted a few coins off a couple sheets

Looking for mint sets

Working on my mint sets lately. Friends, I have a small chest the I keep my U S Mint sets & proof sets in and would like to fill it. If you have a group that you would like to sell or trade let me know. I presently have around 50% from 1965 to date but would like to fill the holes that are missing in the box and maybe add some earlier sets. I know, "e-bay or auctions" but I have stopped all of that and been buying and trading in the club only. It has worked well for 4 years now and I wo

Local Coin Show this weekend

Upstate South Carolina Coin Show Friends, As usual every year I make it to the local coin show to find a few beauties and add to the collection. This year will be no different but with a twist. I am going to take a couple hundred coins to sell to the dealers before the weekend gets started. I have the coins on my page and full NGC proof sets 1999 to 2009 that I am looking to liquidate to purchase other coins that I am more interested in.   If you are a dealer that will be working the cr
