About this journal

Friends,

As of first ---- 15 years ago or so we had a FRIENDS list available on our member home page.  A few years ago the FRIENDS were changed to FOLLOWERS by the NGC group.

Now there is not even a followers list on our home page.  Is this Followers list coming back?? Seems the club is moving more and more towards unsocial practices.

Use to be a member could post their journal from their private member page. Now they have to go to Chat Boards to do so. I don't mind it but I know that many members do not use the chat boards. Will there be a link later to post journals from the member page?

A Sunshine 100% natural PIC

a shot for Aurum Friends & Members, I don't see any problems with taking an inexpensive shot of my coins. I don't use lights, scanners, flashes, cones, whatever. I just go outside on a sunny Sunday morning while the sun is shooting across my porch deck, place the coins on white paper and shoot. I cover my hands with a white T-shirt to keep the skin tone off the coins. Set your cameras at a low image quality for full shots. HAPPY COIN COLLECTING

HEY BUDS----- YA GOT ANY PICS?

Coin Addict---- looking for a cool view Friends & fellow members, I have not worked long enough to receive a purchase fix yet, but I feel that it will be soon. I am sure that some of us have been spending all they can & not sharing their moments & "PICS" with us. Don't be shy, put them out there. If I can't get my fix it is good to see that someone is. I help my friends out (when I can)

Rick, I got a drowned sheep! "can ya help me" Friends, I'm at work and I get a distress call from a friend. So of course I go and take care of the deed. It took a while to get him out of where he was, and a guy that was there said he was going to the store but all he had in his wallet was old money. I don't collect bills but I jumped like it was a coin. How much ya got? I purchased $28 (old for new)strait up. $2 bills= 2- 1976, 1- 1958, & a new 1928 $5 bills= 2- 1963 and a $10 bill=

A DREAM COME TRUE ( well temperary )

Did you check your coin grades at 7:00 Eastern Time this morning? Friends & Members, I got up regularly, around 6:00. I made coffee, checked E-News & E-Mails. After-wards I decided to take a few coins out of my Morgan Date set that I plan to upgrade. I logged in and pulled up my set. Every coin I owned was graded at MS66. Now I'm sure I drank three cups of coffee "but who's set am I looking at"? I checked the points and values and they were correct. Then I just gazed at all of my se

Times Are Starting To Look A Little Better In My World

I put my lower grade Morgans up for sale. Friends, The year has been a rough one for us and I hope everyone is starting to feel the relief that I am finally comforted with. I checked out Heritage auction for next month, a lot of sweet coins are now out there for our sets. I went broke on the list that I wanted and then I threw it in the trash. I have been working regular this month so everything seems pretty good for now, a nice contract would put a boost in my collection, or a sale of the

PURPLE SLABS WANTED

Thinking of starting a set Friends, Just thinking of the possibility of a full set of graded upgradeable coins in a registry set. Sounds affordable, but is there anywhere to check on how many there are so I could figure on the best set to start? HAPPY COIN COLLECTING

I am going to vote for RAM-VT-yeah right

It couldn't be any worse than his vote for OBAMA Friends, Yep I have been keeping up with the journals, not adding coins for a while but still put in a shot of something to make it worth the time when I do. I can't comprehend what RAM says because it is coated with too much sugar "he must be taking lessons from the same person Obama is seeing". I know #1 is #1 because he or she is #1 and you know it because NGC told you and I will tell you they are #1.....HAPPY COIN COLLECTING P S If you wan

THINKING of TRADING Friends and Members,Lately I have not really done much with my set. Being laid off this summer I spent a lot of time with my son.He is not crazy about the coins but loves the 60's cars & trucks. I recently put a add in Craigslist "trade morgans for nice 50's or 60's car or truck" We have received a few offers with 1 real nice 1969 chevy but waiting for the one that drops our chin. It seems that when I want to do something with my son he's off somewhere and I think h

FALL IS IN THE AIR

How many journals have you entered lately? Friends, It sure has been a slow summer. With little money (no vacation) and little work (stuck at the house) I read most of the journals entered this summer. The average of journals were around 1-2 per day but with fall around the corner it seems to be picking up a little.I have stopped grading coins until I figure out what NGC & PCGS is up to. It seems they are trying to change the way we think about our coins. I wish all the collectors going bac

A NEW FRIEND

And Probably A New Member "with a great future set" Friends, I received a e-mail from someone today wanting a list of my morgans that I am selling. I sent it to him with my phone number. He called and I guess we talked quite a while. My friend has been collecting his morgan dollars for around 5 years and has over 70 different coins (ungraded). I was in the same spot a year ago before my PCGS membership & my Coin Collectors membership. We talked about grading and I was surprised that he w

TODAYS AUCTION

Of course I went Friends, Well it was a good day. I set out this afternoon to meet a dealer concerning my set. After which I went to the auction. Made a couple friends before the auction hanging around out back talking about coins. When we all went in they registered but I didn't. It wasn't that the 1893s morgan dollar was bad,it had a good rim, rubbed but good visuals, and a couple black spots on reverse. A visit to the coin doctor "NCS" & it would get a 4-12 grade. I only have $2,000 left

INSPIRATION

SELLING

I swore I would stay away from raw Morgans Hey Friends; Sent off some coins for auction (raw ungraded Morgans) and was glad to finally get down to all graded coins in my possession. I have 4 graded coins to crack out and submit for next month.I wanted a couple more but didn't have the finances so I did what I swore I would not do, I purchased 3 raw ungraded coins that I will probably regret later. I have not bought a coin in a while and wanted to submit more than 4 coins for grading.

RE: I'M NOT A ROCKET SCIENTIST

Just my thinking (right or wrong) Friends, I do think it is a great thing that NGC is encapsulating our problem coins. I have 14 PCGS genuines. We pay for a service and all coins should get encapsulated for preservation. The new slabs for these coins looks great. The only part of this I don't agree on is the 50% points. I watch the auctions looking for a replacements for my 1890CC,1892CC & 1893CC genuines and I see a lot of ANACS & ICG details coins, and yes now PCGS genuines are at t

I"M NOT A ROCKET SCIENTIST

NGC is going to grade cleaned, scrathced, and rim nicked coins? GRADE but DETAILS? so I read in a journalFriends; I don't know for sure but this would be the downfall for NGC as far as I am concerned. You don't put a grade on a coin that is not lusted for. I surely don't want a MS-65 with a rim nick in my set,HELLO what are they thinking about. So you say my 1893cc altered surface will now get a MS64 and will give me over 1,500 points in my values. GOOD BYE NGC. Times have been tough but you c

COINS & MY COMPUTER

I borrowed your best coins for a week,, or2, or3 Friends; Yea I'm guilty of keeping your best coins in my office for a week or two. The large picture RareSov just put in his journal is a perfect size for a back screen on my computer. Every time someone shows off a spectacular coin I like, I right click it and save to back screen on my computer.I clicked stretch on RareSov's picture and the five perth mint set fit perfectly. This will last from 1-3 weeks until another pretty coin picture shows

AUGUST STARTER

END OF THE DAY OF A FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH-----AND NO ENTRIES HEY EVERYONE; Well I will start the month out. I did re-download most of my set that I was going to sell at auction (I should have left it until I sold it but I jumped the gun)when I checked the archives I realized I would lose quite a bit. However--it has been enjoyable watching my points value go back to where they belong.I even added a set to accommodate my upgraded coins. I always wondered why so many of you have 6 sets of your

IS NCS REALY A GOOD IDEA?

Send a coin to get CLEANED (altered surface) and then receive a good grade? Friends; I have often wondered why you would send your coins to the cleaners.I have a few that would be more lustrous with a little buff. I also have 2 NGC graded AU55 that are no doubt cleaned ( they are flat gray and look like they were stamped out of concrete). What are your chances of getting a nice grade from PCGS after sending the coin to NCS? If in the future we get a grading standard and all coins that

PUZZLED OWNER of a 1921

Is it a MORGAN? Is it a CHAPMAN? NO it's a ZERBE Friends; When I started collecting morgan dollars I purchased a lot of coins I did not need due to my uneducated coin mentality. Since then I have sold all of the worse ones but I still have one that puzzles me because I don't understand it. I believe the Zerbe R. simply means some type of VAM . Do you have any clue?

Heritage or Teletrade ???? Re

Well the choice was made BY MY WIFE Friends; It was a week of mental breaking stress. I have a new job coming at $25 hour and my truck is broke down with no warranty. I still have an old blazer (HOBBY) with a $10K Drive-train. The job will start in around 2 weeks but I have been out of work for 5 months. So I still owe taxes and have 1 high credit card. We have done O-K living off of ungraded coin auctions and small side jobs. But I know the I_R_S will be beating on the door soon and I would l

Heritage or Teletrade ????

Looked at a nice truck yesterday. HMMM Friends; Well I fell a little overboard when I checked out a new F350 Club Cab 4X4 yesterday. The price was around $56,000 witch is pretty unreasonable but the dealer is going to work it down (of course since I must have been the only looker there). Well I get home and Heritage Auctions calls me and wants my set for the A N A show next month ( so did everyone else ). We talked a while "me & Bob Marino" the best consignment fees were 7.5%. Last Journal For A While

Yea I gave MY EXPERTISE ADVICE Friends; We all love the journals and read them every chance we have. Recently (for the past six months) wow that's a long time. I have been unemployed, if I was not self employed it might have been easier (I cannot collect unemployment) so I sold everything that was not nailed down to the floor. I did manage to hold on to my wife ( she cooks so good I don't need restaurants) and of course I held on to the coin sets I have grown to love and then there's the dog

I-BID----E-BAY-----PROXI-BID

SEEMS TO BE THE DISCUSSION OF THE WEEK (AMONG MY FRIENDS) Friends; I don't know what all the talk is about I-Bid, I guess a lot of my friends here in the club can save money selling coins there. I logged on today to check out the Morgan Dollars. If you are a collector of Morgans you will get a better price on Proxibid. There were no great catches and actually everything was like a proxibid de-ja-vu . Most of the coins were raw (looked like the coins I sold last month), and the coins that were

MY SET SELLING TEST EXPERIMENT

What would a dealer offer you? Friends; I read all the hoopla of I need to sell and I wondered what if I had to sell? Well if you have a great set (good luck) It dose not matter where you are in the ranks Your coins are gray sheeted. So if you are thinking of selling your "pride & joy" first check on the crappiest price you will get offered = gray sheet value. If you think people would go overboard to purchase your coins (they would have your coins at the same grade already). So as a perso
