About this journal

Friends,

As of first ---- 15 years ago or so we had a FRIENDS list available on our member home page.  A few years ago the FRIENDS were changed to FOLLOWERS by the NGC group.

Now there is not even a followers list on our home page.  Is this Followers list coming back?? Seems the club is moving more and more towards unsocial practices.

Use to be a member could post their journal from their private member page. Now they have to go to Chat Boards to do so. I don't mind it but I know that many members do not use the chat boards. Will there be a link later to post journals from the member page?

Additions and Pics

It's a task just keeping up Friends, I added 50 new Lincolns to the set this week. Purchasing the complete set of Lincolns from vumc409 left me with plenty of extras. All pics were added and it seems I am missing other pics in other sets. I will take the time this weekend to get those pics caught up as well. I like to have pics for everything on the registry page but sometimes lack the time it takes to follow up. Enjoy the Lincoln slide show, Rick To see old comments for this Journ

Easy Question FOR ALL!! What do you think is the hardest US MODERN series set to build?

I have been building them for 7 years or so. Friends, Just a thought as I plunder through my recent purchases. I wondered if others had the same complications finding the greatest coins available out there. I know we all look in different areas trying to do our best at obtaining the greatest coin we can find for sale --- of course at a SWEET price. I had no problems with the nickels and dimes as I may have been HOOKED up. On the other end I found it hard on Lincolns and dollars. Seems whe

Added a Proof Lincoln or two, or three.

Well how about almost a --- COMPLTE SET!! Friends, I had finally got caught up on everything even in this heat we are getting this summer. I saw that vumc409 was selling his 1909 to date Lincoln proof set. Checked out the set and saw around 25 or so I would like to get for additions to my set. When I asked him for prices on them he told me that he would not break up the set. Well after a day or two of really thinking hard on the set pieces I wanted and the 38 or so coins that will be dou

More Points?

Juiced up the clad dimes. Wow, I looked this morning and my Roosevelt dime set got over 5000 points added without even purchasing anything. Thanks NGC!! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

1971-S Silver Proof IKE

Trying to get a few pics for Cody Friends, I had a group of Ikes that sold a year or more ago. I held onto a couple as I thought they might be a little different. Although I don't remember the extent of knowledge at the time I had on those as varieties. May have been type 1 reverse and I didn't even know. Well this is a type 2 rev with no islands cropped and you can't tell which it is. I was trying to get the double die pic but this seems more like a quad die than a double. Enjoy Ric

At It AGAIN

Always looking for mint package trades!! Friends, As I help many collectors locally add to their government issue mint and proof set collections I run out quickly. There are many locals here that do not collect 3rd party slabs but like to build collections in mint packaging. I am always looking to trade my graded slabs for any mint packaged material available. If I have a few coins you like and you have some raw stuff in a box ---- Give me a shout!! Here is one of my February additions

State Quarter Circulation set collectors WANTED!!

Christmas is near and I would like to help others that are building these sets. Friends, As I have sent a few large submissions in to build my state quarter set I have very many extras. I would like to give some away as gifts this year to help others with their set. No matter if you are building the state quarter set or just need 1 for a type set. If you would like a few free NGC graded state quarters to add to your set just send me a message and I will wrap up a package and send it your

Time to make some room for new submissions

Not interested in buying another safe!! Friends,       Well I am getting the ball rolling again and will need room for around 400 new coins. I decided to send a box full to Heritage for Orlando Fun but first ran an add in Money Market @ 50% off listed FMV. The sales may be loss of invested but will generate the cash needed for all the new picks I have saved for submission to NGC.               Happy Coin Collecting!! I'm at it AGAIN!!

Another BLINDING task Friends,   I recently acquired around $2500 in mint rolls of coins from Jackson. Quite a few rolls and plenty of searching. The great point in this search is the dates were mostly 2005 to 2010.   With the Sacs, Presidents, Kennedy halves, and State Quarters completed I am down to Nickels and Lincolns. There will be some nice business strikes added to my sets this winter for sure!! With the coins I acquired over the past 2 years added to the new lot I should have

Sacs and President Dollars

Why??? I don't really know but that will be the next venture on my list!! Friends,   I have enjoyed so many new coins added to each set this year but with the new submission thoughts I have decided to run with the dollar pieces of the 21'st century. My Sac set is seeming to need the most interest in ranks so I am going to try for a few nice holders. I have also ordered a group of rolls for my State Quarter set that will get that set closer to completion.   Looks like a fun and intere

New Additions Coming Soon!!!

You snooze ---- You loose!! Friends,   I have been adding some great TOP POP coins to my MODERN sets lately. I don't really make the income to afford these jewels but have been working overtime to get them paid for . It is GREAT to have such friends here that will accept the I.O.U's I needed lately to pull the purchases off and get them loaded.   My computer died this month which I guess -- 8 years is a good life span Working on my wife's laptop --- SUCKS!!! Stack's Bowers Galleries

Free gift if you realize over $ on your submission Friends,       I had the funniest e-mail from Stack's today. Seems if you consign and sell over a certain point price wise --- they will give you a free coin!! HaHa               Now don't get me wrong --- FREE coins are GREAT --- BUT if I am selling ----       WHY??? in the world would I want a free coin for selling above their price tier??       Seems a break in costs would be more effective!!

A Copper Weekend

Trade SILVER for Copper Friends,   This weekend was a different switch as of the regular. Thursday I went to a local coin shop to trade Silver coins for Coppers. He had mentioned before that he was wanting to rid of all his copper stash.   As he had a nice group of Indians and large cent pieces I figured it would be a fun task. I ended up getting 2 books of wheats, 1 book 1909 to date, 70 rolls of memorials, 50 rolls of wheats, 70 large cents, 50 indians, and a few hundred wheats and

Anyone planning a modern submission soon ?

I would like to match!! Friends, I have my new subscription and plan on knocking down this pile of modern era coins for NGC grading. I would like to hook up with a few that are doing the same. Surely the dates would be different --- being different mint sets and trades would be a great time!! If you are doing a 1970 to date submission this summer give me a shout and we will work a few trades out. Later---Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can b

Soon to get the gears grinding again!!

My collecting motor has been down for a while now. Friends, Well I am soon to renew my NGC membership and start sending in more of those great coins I have been hoarding. It has been a rough winter cash wise but my work schedule is flowing once again. I did manage to do a few sales and trades with promissory notes while I was low on cash but have overcome the debts and now ready to start spending a little cash on new coin ventures. I hope to complete my sets 1965 to date and start back coll

1/2 oz. Gold First Spouse

Of the group that I have. I like the look of this one!! Friends, I don't have the full set of first spouse gold coins. Of the ones I do have I like the look of the Mint State coins more than the Proof coins. This Jefferson pic here with the wavy hair and the soft texture flow seems to look the best out of the group I have even though it is not the rarest. Modern Commemorative Half Dollars

Just what collectors were they intended for Friends, I have purchased and sold very many Modern Commemorative half dollars but never bought any mint wrapper sets. There are many sets built by us that are from already graded coins and I was surprised to get the mint package ones that came this weekend. For the collectors that build these sets I thought a pic of mint packaged sets would be interesting. Below is a pic of 4 Modern Commemorative half dollar coins in a mint wrapper that were int

Buying RAW coins to fill holes in sets.

Where to get your values for bidding. Friends, Many dealers subscribe to grey sheet price lists for their monthly values on raw coins and sets. A great magazine that my wife got for me yesterday is great and will help to keep up with monthly values of most raw coins I purchase and sell. It is impossible to keep up with today's value using the red book which is actually outdated when it is released for publishing. March to April values on MS65 coins -- +.11, VF graded coins -- -.49. A Silver Commemorative Search

I found more than I needed for sure!! Friends, I was interested in getting a few hard to find Modern Commemorative Silver Dollars. Well the box came open and the full load was surprisingly beautiful. Mint package after mint package full of sets that were Silver and Gold from the first set in 1983 to 2010. I grabbed a few Silver sets that I wanted just a little over melt and I can get some gold if someone is interested in grabbing a few. There was also a few Double Eagles graded MS61 in the

It took me a while!!

I finally have a showcase in a store!! Friends, As I have been selling coins for quite some time I have had a hard time getting in the door to sell at coin shops. Finally a new store opened up locally and they needed someone familiar with coins so I jumped at the chance. Here is a pic of the showcase with a large selection of NGC slabs and other stuff. It was nice to be able to fill a case in the store and talk coins to customers that were interested. Later---Rick To see old comments

A rare Indian

A sales piece on the run!! Friends, I have a beauty that I am sure there will be no other of this date and design run through here for a while. This is a 1907 $10 gold Indian. For the 1907 year there were many made and kept as well. The rarity to this one piece is - No Motto. There have only been 50 total graded by NGC and I was glad to have the chance to check this piece out while it was in route to a new ownership. Just thought I would share a pic with you. A Neon Lighting for the day

Found in a batch for sale!! Friends, Last week a member here sent me a very large group of raw morgans to sell for him. These are nice Morgans for a dansco or whitman album set. He has decided to go all in on high graded coins and decided to sell these. Anyway --- As I did pics and pricing I kept eyeing a very nice toner -- 1879-S that kept trying to get out from the complete collection. I decided to share a pic of the reverse of which matches the obverse. ENJOY!! To see old co
