About this journal

World Coin News 12 issues $25.99, Coin World - Weekly News Resourse 52 issues $69.99, Coin World 12 issues $24.99.  Three publications.  I am wondering which is the better of the three to subscribe to.  They all have strengths from what I can get from the few reviews listed for them on Amazon.  As well as some grips for issues delivered on time or at all.  I currently subscribe to Numismatic News for many years and issues delivered is always a problem I think because they are sent via dead last shipping.  I however hate online subscriptions, because after a day on the computer, the last thing I want to do when I sit in my favorite chair in the evening to relax is grab the tablet to read a magazine.  Nothing is better than picking up an actual piece of journalism during a commercial when watching the tube and reading an article.  I can put it down and pick it up again at the next commercial.  Any who, thoughts on the three publications would be appreciated.  As always, thanks.  PS  Anyone have the PF and MS70 of the Boys Town in brown label for sale?

Would like to share this

Fellow members and 5 star General silver dollars I just completed a deal with a fellow member. The experience was great. He was very patient with me as I was having a little difficulty getting funds lined up. After everything was said and done, the coins are on their way, he sent me serial #s and pics so I can put them in my registry now. That is great As far as the 5 star Generals are concerned both my PF70 and MS70 ar not what I call perfect. On the unc there is a reeded edge scratch

WHEN IS A SET A SET?

2013W SILVER EAGLE SET #s WAY OFF. Well that is a good question. When is a set a set? To me when a set is put forth such as the 2012 and 2013 and even the 2011 ASE sets by the mint, and they are sold by one of the large sellers, and they are purchased by a long time customer, you would think that they would send a pair that is reasonably close in numbers. So help me out here folks, am I wish full thinking or what? All my other sets are real good in matching up the numbers. I guess I feel

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

Rick, Brent, you are ineligible to guess. This is a pic of a set that I just recently sent in for grading. It has been in my closet for about 3 1/2 yrs. Could it be a sister set? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

What???

I said WHAT?? Ok the new chat is supposedly up. I still can't find anything. I guess this is for literate folks. I do not know what a thread is, breadcrumbs, post, and all this other crapolla. Thread is in my wife's sewing room, breadcrumbs are, you guessed it, in the bread box by the fridge. How about truely making it simple. I am a no haired senior. No one to help with this computer stuff. The younger folks don't have time or patience to show us things, and these site managers just t

WHAT TO DO?

I AM BESIDE MYSELF. I sent some coins in to be conserved and graded, and of course no one is ever happy. But I believe that one was damaged while in others hands. It came back as a PF68. Now no one ever sends in coins that they feel will not get a PF70 when you are dealing with modern day commemoratives. Because of the expense of acquiring the coins then 30 plus each for grading etc. One looks them over very skeptically before sending them in to be assured as best as they can they get the

WHAT TO DO?

ADVICE PLEASE, AGAIN. When I renewed my NGC membership, I did so by upgrading to get the 5 free submissions. I did this knowing that I would indeed have five new coins to send. They are the 2013 reverse buffalo, 2013 W silver eagle set, and a yet unopened 2012 S silver eagle set. What to do, the buffalo looks like a 69, the 2013 enhanced obverse has a scratch like image on it, more like a piece of fuzz got in there just as the press came together, and a bag like nick on the reverse. As I

What set is this coin from?

didn't know Silver Eagles came in two sets? Two questions here. First the coin and it's label description. Were the eagles available in a mint set and 25th anniversary set in 2011. With all the back and forth about the PCGS no more. Can one buy stock in NGC? Is it on the Stock market? Just me being silly I guess. Happy holidays to everyone. Recovering from my 3rd back surgery, doing ok. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

WHAT IS IT?

FOUND IN LINCOLN CENT ROLL. Found this in a Lincoln cent roll. On the obv. ? is a large 50 and 1969 below it with aflower blossom up through the 0 and the word GROSCHEN at the very bottom in capitol letters. The rev?has a shiel with a wide band going left to right and vertical lines above and below it. The words REPUBLIK `O`STERRICH`. Foreign coin buffs, oh it has a reeded edge, what do I have? I can put up the pic of thr rev if someone needs it. To see old comments for this Journal

What is "ALTERED SURFACE"?

Got this back from grading.  Bought it from the Mint.  Called NGC to find out what this meant.  Got a gal who read a prepared sentence.  I called the mint to see if they had done something to this coin, and they say no, can't be responsible for coins once they leave the mint.  Still don't know what is wrong with it.  I guess the Postal Service did something to it before NGC got it, because I know that they don't "alter surfaces".  Anyway, can someone explain what the mints do to alter surfaces s

Wanted

Standard holder I am looking for this coin holder MS70 2011 Silver eagle. Sometimes called the standard label, the regular label, or the brown/gold label. This is just like any other yr. Eagle holder, and other denominations. It was used early before they came out with the 25th Anniversary brown label. They then called that the standard label. But it was only for the 2011 yr, because the 2012s have the "standard" label. If anyone has one for sale the 2011 label or knows of someone who is

VISITED A COIN SHOW ON SATURDAY

DISAPPOINTED ABOUT SHOW, THRILLED WITH MAIL. Hello everyone. It has been awhile, but must vent something. While at the show on Saturday, a dealer or so I think, had a table with some nice Morgans and Peace dollars. Sitting in a chair in front of him was what I thought to be a customer looking at his display which I thought was okay since all the other tables had the same. Chairs were everywere for clients to sit and look. I was looking at some slabs over the shoulder of the gentleman a

TRIP FROM TOP TEN LIST

Two things on my top ten list is tour the US Mint, and attend a large coin show.  The Denver ANA show fit the criteria for a trip like this to get two of my top tens done.  We made reservations and purchased airfare tickets in early April.  The days went by and two days before our trip I decided to check the Mint website again for info on the tours.  To my shock all tours were cancelled during the week of the ANA show.  This was not the case when we decided on the trip.  Oh well disappointed but

Dealers/brokers? I suppose I am the only guy in the universe who doesn't know the answere to this. Did the Mint produce extra coins for the brokers, dealers/mints who are big internet sellers? Buy this I mean besides the 100,000 for sale to the public. Could they have gotten rolls upon rolls of these coins just for the purpose of a tremendous price cascade? Its seems that everyone said get a set if you can cuz there won't be any left. Just look at Ebay and the on-line folks how many ther

TODAY'S COINAGE

LINCOLN CENT To all the Lincoln cent people out there. I just started to dabble in the buy a few rolls of pennies to see what would happen. WHAT A SURPRISE. I bought 10 rolls from my unfriendly bank, they really did not want to sell me the rolls, but the big wig over rode them. Anyway here is what I am getting at, It seems like anything new is junk. Green, crusty, very very poorly struck, and quite frankly a big disappointment. Of course it seems only the 2000 and up is the worst. I fig

THEIVES ARE OUT THERE.

DON'T LET IT BE YOU Well it finally happened. I had a order from the US Mint coming and I checked the tracker and it showed "delivered". That's fine except for one thing. My regular mail was there and NO package. Got with the Post Office and the carrier insists he put a package in my mailbox at the time noted on the tracker. Got with FedEx as it was shipped Smart post, but nothing I could do, neither one of them seemed interested in helping. Contacted the US Mint and they said I had to f

THE PERFECT SET!!!!!

1 thru 5 brown Standard label Well here it is, what many of you have been asking for. Picture of my recent aquisition. A 2011 25th ANNIVERSARY 5 COIN SET. This is the perfect set as you can see by the serial #s. Plus it is the only known one in existance with the Standard Brown NGC Label. I got it from my friend, and yes I do have permission to post and tell about it. I put the three MS70 slabs in my custom sets, so you can see how may different ones were made for 2011. THE BUFFALO HAS ARRIVED

NOT THE BEST PIC. Well it came yesterday, and I apologize for the crappy pic. It is the best I can do. When I opened the shipping box, you could smell the leather aroma and my anticipation and excitement went off the charts. It came in a absolutely gorgeous brown wood box, with leather, dollhouse type fabric inside. Upon opening the box, I was floored by the beauty of the coin. Stunning is a better word, again I wish I had a better camera. My photo just doesn't show the awesomeness of i
