re; broken planchet error

looks to me like you got free lent from the mint. sorry pic not clear enough. It might be another loch ness monster. I would add that the red is the wrong color to possibly be copper after that much time. Copper oxidizes green. I am almost positive from looking at your pics that you have a red thread of some type. It's defintly NOT the loch ness monster. Sorry to have gotten your hopes up. VBG

Rookie mistakes amaze me! When buying coins the first question i always ask after careful study is do the laws of supply and demand have much control here? Second question i ask is the deal too good to be true? If it is it probably isn't Why would you buy a coin without some type of serious knowledge of what you are recieving? I won't say great deals do not abound because truthfully some people don't know what they have, in the same breath, most usually have researched the value intensely.

allan the site you referred to is maintained by ebayer Cameo who is a dealer but i don't think he really does much on ebay any more. I know for a fact he is all about ICGS a opinion i disagree with emphatically. By the way Cameo is very knowledgable but i would be very careful not to offend him. I am glad to have "crunked" your interest in civil war tokens. One of the best things about coins in general is that there is so much to be learned and as a community we can specialize and keep the flame of knowledge alive and well. what you have there is a civil war token. They were made because coinage was scarce during the civil war. George and melvin fuld wrote the book on civil war tokens. Let me go look for it and i will try to varietize it for you.

you are lucky NGC let it be a registry coin. Afterall it's not legal tender and sometimes NGC won't let legal tender coins in such as error's. Take for example the 1990-s no S proof cent. It's a 10k coin but it gets a single point on the registry scale. Being an obvious error coin the 90 no S by ngc definition shouldn't be allowed at all. BUT it is a notable error coin and has recognition. NGC has allowed certain notable error coins be included in the registry some like the 90 no S get a

proof gold buffalo's and supply demand

price is right but i wouldn't worry anyway some of the flops as far as mint marketing of coins have turned into right pricey stuff in the real world. My real guess is it's a good hedge on inflation to have some of these and it would be smart to have a few for collector appeal. Afterall it is a beautiful coin.

registry score changes

am i the only one? i see plenty of date modifications on many collector's but few score changes. Whenever I personally make an addition or subtraction i see no point changes. It always shows 0. Anybody got an answer?

bought off more than i

planned to chew.... i was bidding on an auction site and noticed it was slow to process bids. Anyway i bid on a few coins that i wouldn't normally have bid on because i didn't think i had won and well guess what? I am the happy winner of all auctions i bid on. It's fine though because they are duplicate dates and well i have one grandaughter and my youngest daughter is also a collector so it works out nicely. I found a way to get them started early. If ICG's as good as the ICG proponents proclaim

I really don't think i will be posting on this subject again. We have heard several suspect posts and a few legitimate posts on why ICG should be allowed in an NGC registry. I will try not mudslinging because i would prefer to keep the posts i make in a gentlemanly manner. The simple FACT's are that a small group of legitimate registry poster's want ICG to be included and some less than legitimate poster's also do. I was shocked at johannsenn's journal comments

For someone who has had such a vast experience at crossing over slabs that this was his first visit to NGC's website. I am not trying to pick a fight at all but although his composition was a 70 his content was more like a 58. If it was only marketing i sincerely doubt ICG would even be in the "triangle" he referred to. SEGS has a much nicer looking slab and i believe it to have more eye appeal and function than any other i have seen. Great to be an american and a right to an opinion.

grey sheet as a reference anyway

has become overrated in my opinion Someone referenced the grey sheet earlier as a reference for top grading companies. If grey sheet reccomendations are as accurate as their recommended bid ask's are relative to current real world pricing then "greysheet" could be included in horseshoes and hangernade sayings right next to atomic bombs.

how about ntc pci segs anacs? If you lower your standards (and i think this would be) you really diminish the importance of what you have collected. I am not being snobbish here but i have consistantly compared coins same grade and prefer the current system.
