About this journal

It has been about 3 1/2 years since I posted anything in the journals.  Ever since I sold my 1959-Date Mint State Lincoln Cent Collection to purchase some land in north Florida in 2015 I haven't posted any of the coins I still have in my collection.  I see a lot of my old coins in new sets now and I am glad they have started to find new homes.  If any one you Lincoln cent collectors want to you can view the attached registry award link from my former #1 set and use any of the pictures that robec1347 took for me. https://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/Coins/awards/WinningSetDetail.aspx?AwardSetID=59937.  Had just about every 1959-date mint state Lincoln in the top grade when I sold the set.  I recently added this NGC ancient to my collection.  Hope you enjoy.  As always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

Would You Take A Chance On This Coin?

For me personally, NO Hi everyone. About a week and a half ago this example of an IGC MS67 RD 1969S Lincoln Memorial was offered for sell on TeleTrade and it failed to sell that night. It is coming up for auction again during the June 4th auction. When I followed this coin the first time the last bid I saw was at $1000.00 WOW, is all I can say. NGC grades only 5 in MS67 RD with one graded higher. NumisMedia list the coin for $630 in MS67 RD. I am in no way convinced that this coin would

Would You Pay $1400 for this coin?

2011 MS68 PCGS Lincoln Shield Hi everyone. I had this particular coin tracked in last nights TeleTrade Auction and all I can say is "WOW" This coin sold for $1400 last night before fees. I know there is such a big debate about the value of PCGS vs NGC coins but this is just out of whack. I have a NGC example of this coin in the same grade that I paid less than $100 for. You decide. Who Can Help Me With This Coin

1889 Guatemala 1/4 real date over strike Hi Everyone. As most of you know I collect mostly Lincoln Memorials for my registry sets. I belong to the Tampa Bay Coin Club which has been around for a very long time and we have an auction every month at our meetings to help raise funds for the club. I bought this 1889 Guatemala 1/4 real not because it fit into any of my registry sets but to support the club and also because it is silver and old. I paid $6.00. The coin itself is not very expensiv

When a lower graded die variety is worth more registry points than a higher graded die variety

NGC MS67RD 1998 Wide AM Lincoln Memorial Hi everyone. My latest addition to my 1959-Present Lincoln Memorial Set is a NGC MS67RD 1998 Wide AM. The registry point value in this grade is 351 with a population of 30 with none graded higher. This same coin graded in MS69RD without the Wide AM is worth only 288 with a population of 7 with none higher. The Lincoln Memorial has a few years that they designated as Wide AM variety such as the 1992, 1998, 1999 and 2000. They call it that due to the

What is Wrong With This Picture

A costly mistake avoided Hi everyone. Within the last 4 months an NGC MS68RD 1964 Lincoln Memorial sold for $2000 and at the time the seller said it had a population of 1. Shortly thereafter, this example came up for sale and of course I was interested in adding this coin to my Lincoln Memorial Circulation sets. I check NGC Population Report and it did show a population of 2. The seller of this coin listed it several times on Ebay and would drop the price each time it did not sell and re-l

Top Ten NGC Lincoln Memorial Set

1998 Type 2 Wide AM NGC MS 66 Hi everyone. One of my goals at the beginning of this year was to finish with my Lincoln Memorial Registry set in the top 10 at the end of the year. My most recent addition has temporarily placed me in 8th amongst these sets. I have a few more sleeper coins that I will be looking for this year that hopefully will keep me in the top 10. I hope you enjoy the picture and always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

The Lighter Side of Going Postal

Tales from the Post Office After all the recent post about problems with shipping and receiving coins through the US Post Office and the known mismanagement that plagues it I decided to go down and purchase a 100 rolls of the Forever stamps and place them in my safe. I figure in 10 years if the USPS still exist then stamps will be about $5 each. I could sell mine for $2.50 and make a fortune. Of course I am joking, but it is a thought. Happy Collecting

The Envelope Please, And The Winner Is

All collectors are winners in my mind Hi everyone. Congratulations to all the registry and journal award winners this year. In the long run we as collectors are all winners. People collect many different things and for many different reasons. When I started collecting as a child it was for the fun of it. All these years later it is still fun but their are other reasons I collect now as well. I was honored this year to bring in 2 registry awards for my 1959-Date Circulation Issue and for

The Double Vision Lincoln Cent Collection

How much can 7 cents be worth Hi everyone. I just picked up my latest addition to my Double Vision Lincoln Cent Collection this past weekend from the Heritage Auction. Here is my NGC PF68*RD 1971 S FS-102 doubled die obverse Lincoln Memorial. I have been looking too add this coin for a long time and the opportunity finally came up. The last example of this coin that I can find auction records on was an example sold by TeleTrade back in September 2009 which was a PF68RD without the star des

The "WOW" Factor NGC MS69 1995 Double Die Obv Lincoln Memorial

Trying to fill in some of the blank spots Hi everyone. This is a picture of my latest addition to my Lincoln Memorial Business Strike Registry Set. Population of 18. It is by far the coin with the highest point value in my set. Picked it up the other night from TeleTrade and with tax and their percentage included still came out way ahead on this one. I will be adding a few more very nice coins to this set in the next few weeks. The coin is masterfully struck and has great eye appeal. I h

TeleTrade too auction 2nd finest graded NGC 1955 Double Die Lincoln Wheat Cent

Makes my eyes cross. Hi everyone. In this Sunday's TeleTrade auction they are listing the 2nd finest graded NGC 1955 Double Die. It is only one of 2 examples graded at MS66 with this one graded MS66RB. Now this would be a dream coin for a lot of us Lincoln collectors too say the least. From the pictures I cannot tell if this coin meets the RB standard anymore but still a very impressive example of this error date Lincoln. With a starting price of $21,000 it is out of my ballpark for now.

Sometimes the flaws add character

2 Major Die Cracks Hi everyone. There have been some post by fellow members lately in reference too images that show the coin for what it is and not trying to hide flaws and enhance it's qualities through various photo hardware. I recently stated in a previous post that I was having my Lincoln Memorial circulation issue registry set photograph by a fellow collector. He normally sends me at least 5 or more images for both the obverse and reverse of each coin. I know a lot of auction houses

Sold My Entire Collection too Pursue a Dream

Yes, $2.00 in Lincoln cents made it happen Hi Everyone. Well, this may come as a shock to a lot of people but this past week I sold off my entire Lincoln cent collection too pursue a dream. $2.00 worth of Lincoln cents is basically what my collection consisted of. The MS66RB 1955 DDO was just one of the many highlights that use to be mine. I also had all the modern major doubled die obverse and reverse Lincoln cents in top grade. i had been wanting a piece of land for most of my life where

SO WHAT ARE THEY REALLY WORTH?

NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo Presidential Dollars Like my fellow collector in the previous post I have decided to sell some coins from my registry set. Whatever I do make from selling these coins will be reinvested into my Lincoln Memorial Registry Sets. So my question is, what are the PF70 UC Presidential dollars really worth? Now of course when these sets are first released people are paying a premium for them so they can be the first to add them to there registry sets. I listed all 49 coins from

RIP MY FRIEND

Thank you Bill Hello Collector Society. I posted my previous journal this morning thanking a fellow collector for entrusting me to purchase a large portion of his Lincoln Memorial Set. His mother called me about an hour ago to inform me that he had passed away yesterday. I knew he had been ill but this caught me completely off guard. So I would like to take this opportunity to express my sympathies for his family and friends loss and tonight Bill, as the New Year rolls in I will raise my g

Please release Me, Let Me Go

Remove your coin/coins from your registry How often have you bought a new coin that you were very excited to add to your registry set only to find out that the coin is still registered or ownership of that coin still belongs to someone else? Then you get the dreaded message that it will take up to a week unless the previous owner relinquishes the coin. If you sell or cosign your coin for sale, please take the time to do so. In the mean time I will be singing Please Release Me, Let Me Goooo.

I just got back from one of the National Cemetery's here in Florida paying my respects too some family and friends that are interned there. I just recently decided to have some photo work done on my Lincoln Memorial registry sets by a fellow collector who does some amazing work. He goes by Robecs Images and I am excited to have him photograph my set. I have never been able to do my #1 rank

I was fortunate to pick this coin up about 2 years ago for just over $900. Not too bad considering the last MS66RD+ PCGS example sold for $1763 Heritage Auction 10/12 and t

Nice Picture This is a nice picture of my PCGS MS66+ Double Die Obverse Lincoln Memorial that I recently added to my registry set. It is one of the better examples out there. Over twice the price for the same coin

2011D Early Release Lincoln Penny I just added the 2011D Early Release Lincoln Penny to my registry set. I purchased this coin from a seller that sells on Ebay and advertises here on the NGC website. This seller had this coin for sell on both Ebay and his website. The coin listed on Ebay went for more than double the amount I paid from his website. This just proves once again that you should always do your research when buying coins. With the addition of this penny I have moved into 2nd p

Numismatic Trivia Thanks NGC

Crime of 1873, The Comstock Connection, A Tale of Mines, Trade and Morgan Dollars I just want to take a moment and thank NGC for their great numismatic trivia questions that they post almost every week. I have been fortunate enough to win or be the runner up a few times in the past. This past week I was selected as the winner and won this very cool book "Crime of 1873, The Comstock Connection by Robert R Van Ryzin. This is by far the coolest thing that I have won.
