SLOTS FOR THE NOTS

It was easier than one would expect. Hello everyone, I would like to take a moment, and a few words, to thank the staff at NGC. The minor glitch has been rectified, and life goes on, but not without a "Thank you" from me. I have slowed my collecting down to a crawl in the past few years. I am ridding my collections that are going nowhere. I would like to have just a few great sets. Thanks to NGC people for making it easy on us, to enjoy the hobby. I am hoping for a few score changes to

12 MINUTES OF CHAOS

record time for me to acquire a limited edition mint product As a sign of providence, I happened to have the rare day off of work on the same day as the anticipated Standing Liberty design Gold quarter ounce coin's release. I spent the prior hour before the 12:00 start time to review my US Mint account, make sure my billing card number was right and my current address/PO Box was also listed. After this, I simply found busy work around the house to kill the final 40 minutes or so until the

SLOTS AND NOTS!

No place to put some coins? There are collections and sets with slots for them, and the coins haven't been minted yet. There are also graded coins with no slot to put them into. Scores need to be updated also. Not complaining. Just an observation. Happy collecting! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

1939-S Jefferson Reverse of 1940 in MS-67

The Reverse of 1940 just doesnt measure up in quality like the Reverse of 1938 from the San Francisco Mint. Most in this type the dies were worn and just didnt show eye appeal that well. It has been quite sometime since my last post but I had to show this beautiful coin. This was haunting me for years trying to find one in this grade. When I came across this 1939-S Reverse of 40 in MS-67 grade I had to take that second look. Why this particular coin is special to me is because of the rare qu

San Francisco Giants and the Baseball Hall of Fame Coins

My new custom set! Hi everybody, I wanted to share my new custom set I put together. It is the Baseball Hall of Fame coins featuring both the team logo label and the 2014 World Series Champions label for the San Francisco Giants. Both labels are very hard to find on the open market since NGC didn't accept direct submissions for the labels back in 2014. Then, this summer NGC announced that they will except submissions for the team logos, so I sent in the coins I have to get re-labeled with

SILVER Eagles and Canadian Maples

Did you guys and gals get your 2015 and 2016 coins? Friends, As I snoop around looking to see where the next Silver crunch will show itself I found something interesting. Since JP Morgan Chase Bank has found a loophole in selling silver it has been purchasing Silver like CRAZY after all charges were dropped from the scam. Here is the scam -- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-pappalardo/gold-silver-trading-bigge_b_706594.html Since all charges were dropped they are keeping a clear boo

NGC refuses to acknowledge known errors on new gold mercury dimes

NGC admitted that a common error was to common to recognize I submitted a order for 9 new mercury dimes for grading all with one of two recognized errors. I was told by NGG when I talked directly to them that no errors were recognized, they took my money, because the errors present were to common for them to recognize. I thought they were independent, not market makers. Who are they to decide an error is not worth grading. I paid the extra fee and they took it. I contacted them by email, phon

GUARD ANY COIN TYPE COLLECTION FROM COUNTERFEITS

Today's Matron Head Ladies watch their weight! I collect Matron Head large cents but my advice is for all. I suggest every numismatist purchase a pocket size (so small you could fit several in your pocket) LIHGHTHOUSE .01-100G digital scale or similar .1-500G from Amos Advantage.com($24.95 + $7.99 shipping). This little scale from Germany can do more to protect you from counterfeit purchases than you might imagine. First research your coin's birth weight. The Matron Head 1816-1835 varie

Collection Drive

So many different sets and which direction to go!!! Friends, I have ran through all the sets over and over again. I truly enjoy the dimes I have so those are no brainers as to keeping. I have had a swell time in the nickels since the stock market crashed. That leaves me with the Lincoln coins that I have acquired over the past 10 years. I'm not so sure that I want to keep those sets so I am really thinking ---- Heritage auctions for the Lincoln's. I could always add to the Jefferson's and

When the Colony becomes the Ruler

My vicarious trip to Brazil In 1807, Napoleon forced the Portuguese court into exile. Relocating to Rio de Janeiro, Portugal became the colony -- its kingdom ruled from Brazil. This transfer of power was formalized in 1815 when the Reino Unido de Portugal, Brasil e Algarves was established and Rio de Janeiro became its capital. This is the only example of a European nation ruled from one of its colonies. The Portuguese court returned to Lisbon in 1821 with Brazil gaining its independence t

1820 halfcrown Here is a great example of a George IV Crown from 1820. Spreading the Numismatic Word

Gifts for the young I am SLOWLY getting caught up on numismatic gifts for my cousins' children. (Curses of having such a large family) My Goddaughter's birthday recently passed, so I ordered her something her mom said she was into (Some beads that you place on a board, then fuse together with an iron) and a 2007 Proof set from the year she was born. Another cousin had her son last year, so I bought him a 2015 Proof set. He turns 1 next month, so I will be caught up with him. My goal is

IS THERE A PROBLEM SENDING COINS FROM OUTSIDE THE USA?

Canadian border guards stop coin returns. A friend of ours in Canada needs our help. Every time he sends a coin for grading from Canada to Sarasota, the border guards give him so much grief in proving the coin he is receiving back is the one he sent. It is creating so much trouble, he no longer sends coins for verification. I think this should be clarified and there must be a method so that this friend of ours can send coins to NGC without problem. Does anyone know what do to? Capt. B

Coin World Magazine

Nice article in Coin Wold Magazine Coin World magazine did a nice article on some of the libertads in my registry set with a focus on some of the rarest libertads known. The article can be seen in the current issue (August edition). There is a mistake in the article regarding the 1998 triple die, it should be the 1983 proof triple die. The 1952 West Point USMA Sesquincentenial Medal

Over her long and distinguished career Laura Gardin Fraser had a very cordial relationship with the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Both Frasers loved America and the Armed Forces of the United States. Many of their military related commissions not only included medallic art, but also full size sculptures and smaller bronzes. There are three significant works Mrs. Fraser completed for The United States Military Academy. The first is a 1952 bronze medal commemorating the
