Variety Diagnostics

Strong doubling north on “LIBERTY”. Minor repunching inside “8” north. Remains of top of a “0” below the “7” in the date.

Comments

While many coins are called “Misplaced Dates” evidence does not always exist to support that theory. In many cases it seems more likely that a line, die gouge, or tooling mark caused what appears to be a “Misplaced Date”. This coin is one of a few where nothing else besides a “0” can explain what appears below the “7” of the date. Besides being a really nice Misplaced date, the coin also features a nice doubled die and minor repunched date. In lower grades the variety may be difficult to see or not visible. This is a variety that is in strong demand by die variety collectors.
