First introduced in late 2005, the EdgeView™ Holder has been designed to suspend a coin within evenly spaced prongs. Four cut-away windows surround the coin and allow an unobstructed view of the enclosed coins edge, making the EdgeView™ Holder ideal for the Presidential $1 Coins. Edge lettering appearing on the Presidential $1 Coin series, which includes important attribution information such as date and mintmark, is always visible.
The EdgeView™ Holder is made from the same high-quality inert materials used in NGC's standard coin holder. The four-prong design provides necessary stability to hold the coin firmly in place.
The EdgeView™ Holder is used exclusively by NGC for the encapsulation and grading of Presidential $1 Coins, and is not available for other coin types at this time. All Presidential $1 Coins submitted to NGC are automatically encapsulated in an EdgeView™ Holder at no additional charge.
Examining a Coins Edge Within the EdgeView™ Holder
It's easy to examine the edge of a coin encapsulated in the EdgeView™ Holder. The holder should be held upright, angled toward the viewer. A light source behind the coin illuminates the edge. Lettering and other edge details are clearly visible while looking straight at the coins edge from this angle.
