Description & Analysis

Peter Anthony: The 1984 1/20 oz. gold 5 Yuan is the second 1/20 oz. gold Panda to be designed by Mr. Chen Jian of the Shanghai Mint. His characteristic elegant lines convey life to the charming bear rolling around with a bamboo branch. The design is particularly well-suited to the small size of this coin. The 1984 5 Yuan gold Panda isn’t nearly as scarce as the 1983 5 Yuan but it is still far, far from common. The 1984 5 Yuan gold Panda grades well. The average grade is MS-68 and the most common grade is MS-69. This is an underrated coin with a lovely design that deserves a place in any Panda collection.

The 1984 1/20 oz. gold Panda is part of three NGC Registry sets: "Gold 1/20 Ounce Panda, 1983-Date, Mint State," "Gold 1/20 Ounce Panda, 1983-Date, Mint State (Incl. Varieties)" and "Gold 1/20 Ounce Panda, 1983-Date, Mint State and Proof."
